New shorter, edited version with music: th-cam.com/video/zy568OxPIcM/w-d-xo.html 7/27/2011... I had been in whistler for about four weeks at this point. I had been riding everyday and had apparently become a little too confident. I end up riding Fade to Black, the wreck happens on Karate Monkey just by the A-line bridge. I was only paralyzed for a few hours from my nipples down, then luckily ev...

the trails look fun.. not sure why ppl have to travel at a speed that keeps them at their limits of control to enjoy them.. ppl who ride like this are all just in line for a big crash, of which some will ruin their lives

I get it, but I don’t. Crazy fast rides through rough terrain, freesolo’ing El Cap, wing suit flying, etc. Is an adrenaline rush worth the very real possibility of serious injury or death? Not to me.

No offense, but every action we take involves risks/injuries. Technically we all could have been paralyzed simply by being a kid and doing dumb shit on the playground. It’s the most natural thing in the world to want some excitement and fun, so I don’t think of this person as being stupid or oblivious. I hope he can pull through this as best he can, without falling into pointless mental excercices like “If only I hadn’t gotten on my bike that day” or “Why did this happen to me?”. The question in life isn’t “Am I going to suffer a lot?”, but “How am I going to cope with all the pain that WILL cross my path?”. It’s an unforeseen test of determination and character, and we all face that test sooner or later. (If you aren’t an adrenaline-junkie, it could very well be a mundane car accident, falling down some stairs, eating unhealthy and having heart problems, etc.) Inner strength doesn’t come from oneliners, platitudes, or rationalizations, it comes from experience and the ability to handle pain.

Ahh man made my hands sweat 😰 Broke my T11 clean in half and blew a segment of vertebrae out.. Took me years to rehab back onto a bike.. Dr's said I'd never do sport again. 5 years later I'm battling memory fears every time I get on the saddle. Lost my wife and job through it all... The first one being a good thing. She'd rather the death insurance than look after me. Now I can go biking whenever I want.. Healing takes time may yours be quick. 🙏🏻
