As someone who listens to poetic artists such as Maulskull and Sadistik and as someone who writes poetry, I thought of this album as an elementary level of poetry. The analogies are too easy to read, and I could only view this album as something that was made for commonfolk and not exactly for highly educated and well-written folk. Her music is for an audience who typically does not take time out of their life to think deeply or even have an advanced vocabulary.

To be honest, this isn’t my favorite album of hers. For me, an album like folklore was her at her best creatively, which says a lot because the album was so stripped back production wise. However, to me, it exemplifed why people who become fans stay fans. I’ve grown up with her all my life, and there’s been a song at every album cycle that spoke to me personally. I mean it. Even with albums I did not like. She just has a way with words. For TTPD though, I kept revisiting it because I wasn’t sure what it was about it that was polarizing. It’s not her most exciting album production wise, nor is it her most neatly put together work (which has almost become expected out of her). I think this was just her raw and feeling her own emotions without censoring any of it. People take it mostly as the album about Matty, but it’s very introspective in a way that she hasn’t yet done. Usually, she is the victor and the heroine that’s come up on top narratively. This one, she’s hurt and she’s demanding justice for situations that have no heroes or villains, because it’s life. She has to move on because even when you have no answers for anything, the show still has to go on.

The problem with Taylor is she's a marketing genius who doesn't know when to stop. Too much of something good or bad is going to backfire on you. (This is coming from someone who knows every lyric she's ever written by heart I love her writing and I used to love her as a person too but recent events showed me that no I don't know her at all to judge her person in a good or a bad way because I get to see only what her marketing team allows me to see.. but music wise she is really good but then again it's hard to separate the art from the artist..)

Color me impressed! This popped up in my Recommended videos, as I have been watching a lot of behind the scenes and album breakdowns for different artists. Like you, I was a Taylor Swift listener in the early days but, gravitated towards other types of music along the way. Well aware of her music and anything that's been in the press but, not deep into her catalog and not even close to a Swiftie. Not a hater, by any means. I was just listening to a different type of music. There's so much hype around this album that I am intrigued but, I wasn't sure that I wanted to dedicate the time to it. Your video here absolutely sold me on it. You did such an excellent job of putting all of the tracks into perspective and giving enough insight into each song, without giving away the entire experience. I'm super interested in listening to "Down Bad" now, for reasons that are obvious when you check my username. 😂👽 Thank you so much for such an honest, authentic introduction to this part of Taylor's work. I'm honestly excited to give this a listen now. Thank you for giving Taylor a chance and for helping me see what I might have missed. This is really a great summary that you've put together. You should be very proud of this one. I think the Swifties will be genuinely touched by your authenticity and how you truly looked at Taylor as a human and an artist in this piece. You feel, to me, like you have a gentle, kind heart and we need more of that in the world. Thanks for the hot tip. I gotta go listen to the album now. ❤

Taylor is such an interesting lens into the specific female experience with scrutiny of emotions. The beauty in darkness/sadness like this when presented by men for decades has been celebrated as exploring themes such as this. Taylor's commentary is very much not just a snapshot of the zeitgeist, but what i feel is a shared sentiment of being a successful woman crumbling under the pressure to fit a mold, but still be a genuine self, and continute the success at the expense of those. The pulling from all different directions and resulting deterioration of the person and their mental health has appeared for years, and i feel is ubiquitous to the experience of a woman in a man's world who is not entirely hardened. Taylor is very much a flawed thinkpiece into the female experience, particularly with mental strain from said flaws in conjunction with societal expectations.

I have my own metaphor. Matty is the moon, and Taylor the sun. They both cannot be together, if only in a glimpse.. No matter how she loves the dark as her sun sets, or how he longs for the dawn only to fade. Their time together will always be legendary, but temporary. 💔

My absolute favorite album with 1989 being #2. I felt so connected to every one of her songs. They really humanize her. So many hear her singing thru a speaker and maybe I'm saying this more for myself than anyone but it shows and doesn't just tell she is experiencing the human condition like all of us. And she smiles and fakes it til she makes it but she was miserable and so many of us know, especially women we are conditioned to do this, we have to smile thru the tears. I am still not done with this album and listen to it every day. It's definitely going to be my spotify top 10 songs. The metaphors are a puzzle and every time I hear the song over I catch something new. I love Taylor. I always have. And she crosses generations because my 15 yr old daughter loves her as well. We bond over her music and have so much empathy for her. She has been thru so much.

*folklore* has been my favourite album, lyrically, and *1989* sonically. However, I think that *TTPD* is taking both their spots for me. I can't stop listening to it. She didn't write this (double) album for it to be a "banger", this album was her artistic outlet for her heartbreak. This album is her rawest and most honest art she's ever done. I'm loving it. I'm feeling it deeply. I agree with pretty much all your interpretations. I think that the album was mainly written about Matty Healy, their whirlwind relationship after ten years of "what ifs" and longing, and the devastating heartbreak he caused her to have.

this is such a good take on the album… it’s actually relieving as a fan that, as the time passes, more people are beginning to give this project a chance without the preconceptions stablished by the hate train it suffered during the release days… it may not be groundbreaking production-wise, but the lyrical content is definitely one of the best and more complex works of her catalogue. i hope time fixes the overall perception. btw new subscriber here, and would love to see your opinions on her other albums!

I think the truest “fans” of Taylor as an artist are either those who prefer her early work, or prefer her late work and don’t care at all about who she’s dating. I had to wait for the exposure to “die down” so i could enjoy TTPD without hearing from the perspective of celebrity news articles and stan twitter. Taylor can be harder to enjoy when you’re already not a super fan and just like the imagery of her music.

I never trust a narcissist, but they love me, so i play them like a violin and i makes it look oh so easy. For every lie i tell them, they tell me three. This is how the world works, now all he thinks about is me - Taylor Swift, totally an empath victim who doesn't get off on playing games. No disrespect to your video at all, it was great, i just dont trust her as someone who comes from abusive situations. Also, you have a really nice voice 🙂

    • @richlisola1

Yes, she is a narcissist. A traumatized individual may have lessened emotional empathy, might even be misdiagnosed as having Borderline Personality Disorder-But that’s not Swift. She has the carefully curated image, evident lack of real empathy, and feigned empathy of a clever yet cold human being.

    • @DericoSource

@@richlisola1Respectfully, I would argue she’s not a narcissist. I believe she suffered from an abusive narcissistic relationship at an early age (JM) and, frankly, hasn’t recovered from it all these years later (see: would’ve, could’ve …). Most who have experienced actual narcissistic abuse don’t ever REALLY get over it. It’s really maddening to experience. And in her case, at a very young age (which makes it worse). The messed up thing is that (and I can only really speak for myself) we/I try to use their tactics in a misguided attempt to .. Idk … give them a taste of their own medicine (?) But that’s inevitably a dark path because we aren’t NPD. And we feel worse for even trying to go there …

    • @richlisola1
      @richlisola1 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@carsten1989 Yeah, that’s what most of her fans believe-But I find her lyrics too self-evident and overt to be interpreted that way. That plus her public behavior, crafted manipulation of the press, lack of boundary recognition in how she puts all her exes on blast in a one sided manner in her songs…oh and multiple feuds with other pop-stars who she feels crossed her-Typically for petty reasons… Doesn’t paint the picture of a victim of narcissistic abuse-Just a narcissist. It’s also worth nothing that abuse from narcissists at a young age, can forge a narcissist from that same child-Not always, but it does happen. So, suggesting she was a narcissist’s victim in her youth, doesn’t hurt the case that she herself is a narcissist. May I ask you this? What about her behavior seems genuinely empathetic, in a way that cannot be alternatively seen as a shallow facade?

I think she's very self aware in anti hero MV she presents the fool, the villain and the goddess. The fool is the regular version of her before the fame that wanted This life and wanting to keep everyone happy. The villain is the pop star version that imageries too big to hang out, starving herself, striving for perfection. And the last one is the goddess at the end of the video neither of the two other Taylor's ever touch the largest one because she represents the idol her fans worship but she's not real, she's only a figment , a character Taylor gives them at every show. In that same video she pictures her as it would be if she continues down that path and ignores her true feelings. The fact is matty and her have had a love affair that spans over a decade but because there was never a photo it didn't happen right? TTPD is her unmasking infront of everyone. As she did in the fortnight video. The only way to truly understand the album is to know matty Healy. Watch, oh Caroline(it goes with delicate), me+you together song, I'm still in love with you, part of the band. Medicine / mirrorball. They have been speaking in a secret language but bc some of her fans decided that as a recovering addict that's not PC he is not worthy of the goddess they aimed to tear her down if she didn't do as they say. I think ttpd prologue is an ironic tongue in cheek they had her on trial wanting to crucify her for being with him so she submitted into evidence her plea of "insanity"

The Tortured Poets Department is set in its own fictional universe. Major points: • The Tortured Poets Department is a government building/agency, which studies how the traumatic backstories of poets/artists made them better at creativity ✍. • Every narrator has a traumatic backstory, eventually ends up a successful artist, and is studied at the TTPD. • The universe is in the near-ish future with normalised international dating, holograms, a miracle move on drug, an anti-drug-addiction treatment, hovercraft, etc. • The universe has the supernatural with the song I Look in People's Windows being the most blatant inclusion. (The guy is clearly psychic). • The universe has alien abduction with Down Bad. • Every backstory in the TTPD is sad, but they usually have happy 😆 endings or inevitable happy endings if the narrative was to continue. There is no real true bad ending. • Taylor can sympathise with all the Tortured Poets, since her own traumatic event of Kanye/Kim made her a better poet/artist. Which is likely the inspiration behind the TTPD universe.

Also, the narrator is presumably male ♂ in order to maximise how similar his personality is to the alien for "twin."

lovely video! but as a constructive criticism, none of the pictures you used as examples were from the lover era nor from 2020. 3:43 first pic: 2023 or 2024, can't remember correctly second pic: 2016 third and fourth pics: 2014. 1989 era. ... but it's just a silly criticism. your video was excellent!

TTPD definitely has some of her best songs like How did it end, I hate it here, Chloe or sam or Sophia of Marcus, the prophecy.. The Anthology part of the album is so underrated

The editing of the video is really well done. I think I have a new found appreciation for TTPD more after this video. Some of the lyrics sound off on the album but I think they fit in the context.

Lana doesn't have any song that sounds like My boy only breaks his favorite toys, down bad, but daddy I love him, guilty as sin, Florida, I can do it with a broken heart, smallest man who ever lived, title track, who's afraid of little old me, Clara bow... These are more than half of the songs on the album So how does it try to be lana? Y'all are grasping at straws lmao

It was indeed a risky album that could put her in a bad light. I'm really glad she put it out though. The funny thing is if people who don't like her really put in the time to litsen to it and study it, they can make legit points about her being bad. But they just throw around blind accusations that make their point bland. Imperfect album from imperfect person. I like it. And I loved your video.❤

The thing is if you really listen to the lyric she tells who she is all though out her discography. People say she deos not take accountabilty for her fail relationships but if you actually listen she actually spell out her flaws very directlly and not always paint herself in a good light.

Now would actually be the best time because she has 2 rerecords left probably going to have a new record soon after that. If this went badly she could bury it. Now is the best time to experiment.

@@eliezerdelacruz5340 yeah I know. But this one feels different. She's more self aware. She's more deranged here. And she looks like she knows she has nothing to prove. Starting with the title of the album. She had to know people were gonna make fun of that and she did it anyways.

I really don't think any of the songs are based on her boyfriends. The true love 💗 story format and break up format are just extremely flexible as they always depend on the specifics of the individuals.

Its funny to see swifties still make this album to be about Alwyn. Like that man was two boyfriends ago and listening to so long london, its obvious she was waaay over the man. She even spells it out in fresh out the slammer. Girlie pop was boooreed and tired. Matty came in like an explosive volcano and reignited life in her life. Promising her things she was missing and lacked for sooo long with her relationship with Alwyn. Matty and Taylor knew eachother prior before in 2014 but due to Mattys issues they never actually got together and when they finally did last year, the backlash from her fans was so severe the man bounced, ghosted leaving Taylor reeling. But it seems she's in a good place with Travis now so all is well.

The problem is most Swifties did not know any of 1975's songs, videos, Matty's interviews etc and so had no clue that Taylor for over a decade "obsessed" over Matty to the point the cover of TTPD is white and black, like 1975's and 1975 signature is a box especially on their albums and TTPD has a box on it with Taylor's photo. On Fortnight video, Taylor straight out used 1975's images plus the black dog walking in it. Swifties really believed that The Black Dog meant Alwyn when it only meant Matty as there is "The Black Dog " in another country besides the UK that Matty was in. The Swifties don't know lines in Matty's songs that Taylor used in her songs in TTPD. And Swifties went after Matty like crazy even threatening death to his parents and him. Matty is with his band since his bandmates are 13 years old, they are his best friends too and Matty would not allow the Swifties to ruin his band let alone his family and him. Taylor did not tell off the Swifties until after Matty ghosted her. She should have done it when he spoke to her about it as she knew. After it was over, in Taylor's song, she tells off the Swifties really well but it was too late for her and Matty. This was the confusion for many Swifties. They had no clue that a lot of Taylor's songs in the past was about Matty when her fans thought it was about Joe or another guy. They also didn't know how 1975 uses lower case letters and loml is about Matty. Taylor was over Alwyn in 2021 but stayed because of the pandemic with him. Matty joined her at Jack's studio to record songs with her that didn't make it onto "Midnights " but Taylor and Matty spent evenings together having dinner out while Alwyn stayed at her NYC home. Taylor knows Matty since 2014. And has had a huge crush on him for many years. 1975 was almost called "The Lost Boys." Peter sung by Taylor is about Matty as well as Cardigan etc etc.
