im working on my brothers and put a battery in it and tried to jump it the button makes the solenoid click but the engine does not crank I took the starter off and checked to make sure it spins and it does so i then tried to jump the starter and it wont turn the motor over as well i belive its a bad starter not giving enough torque but not sure

Looks like cdi unit but mine over the coils up above the airbox .

Shame that cos the bike is very clean otherwise I think that head is toast for sure re bore and new pistons 👍

You shouldn't be using 3bond a gasket is used on base 3bond is for crankcase sealing

Hi. Would youbhave a clue where's the relay for tail position lights together with display backlight? My 10A fuse pops, 20A as well. It is 30A running through that fuse. Any clue welcome. 1985 GL1200 Aspendale with 40😮 or so 5W tail light bulbs.

What indication did you have to know the pulse generator needed replacing??

7.13.23. If I may be presumptuous, it would’ve behooved you to pull the engine. That way you could’ve changed the Stator, and it’s easier to get to the water pump with the engine out also. Not to mention timing belts, while you’re in there. With 140 km on it, makes a lot of sense to do the extra work because it’s not really that much more work pulling the engine. My hats off to you for thinking outside the box, and you ended up repairing what you were going after, so kudos to you‼️

Hi, what PGs did you use to replace them? As far as I know they are only available for 85 and up and heard some ppl use PGs for some other bikes to replace.

I can't shake the death wobble from my bike, my steering feels totally fine, can't feel anything at all but.. wobbles crazy.. going to try tearing the front end apart maybe I'll find something

the problem you are having is same as I had. The solution to my problem was the clutch switch diode was bad. This diode located between the starter relay and starter button in the wire harness near the regulator/rectifier. when it goes bad it cause a dimming of the head light when the starter button is pushed. The unit that you are test should be the tail/brake light sensor.

Hi Scott, I'm fighting this same thing sight now. Trying to get cylinder down on the pistons, bought some cheap Chinese ring compressors from Amazon, but it's so difficult to get the compressor sleeve to unwrap from the piston skirt once the piston is in the cylinder, no clearance between the studs and the cylinders! Ended up breaking my new base gasket trying to pull the compressor sleeve out. What are you using here for the "plastic sleeves" ? I'd like to try your method.

Hey Scott I’ve got a 1979 gs850 as well and I’ve got an oil leak from somewhere maybe on the front side of the engine. Do you think it’d be the same gaskets as yours or maybe a different gasket? If you need photos I’d be more than happy to give you my email and send you photos of the front side of my engine
