    Nice progress! 🎉 Is cell 40 the last cell before the pack is split?

    • @alibro7512
      @alibro7512 20 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, I have 40 cells at the front of the car and 56 in the rear so that is why there is a small voltage drop between them. It's not large but enough to cause an issue with the BMS.

    • @haand001
      @haand001 19 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@alibro7512 Do you sense the voltage right at the cell (with a separate wire from cell to BMS)? Looks like the sense wire is common with the thick wire for some length?

    • @alibro7512
      @alibro7512 19 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@haand001 The sense wires are connected to each cell directly so yes a separate wire for each cell but you need to remember the positive of one cell is the neg of the next so any voltage drop no matter how small between them will be picked up by the BMS. As far as it is concerned they should all be in the one pack with short busbars. Tom DeBree warned me this would be an issue and he was right.

      @@alibro7512 ok, I see know what you mean. Thinking about my own project with modules placed pretty much all over the car. Guess I’ll will see some cells “out of line” during charge/discharge. I better program the BMS to only evaluate balancing of cells when in rest. Thanks for this insight ;)

  • @FrankGraffagnino

    make sure you don't have a fuse or a service disconnect in the middle of a cell group of the bms... if the fuse blows or the service disconnect is out, you will potentially have a path for the high current to go through using the tiny wires of the BMS. congrats on the progress. I know how much work it is to get all those wires soldered! Someone fussed at me and told me you shouldn't solder them you should crimp them for better vibration resistance, but i don't know how much I buy that. I think you and I can just make sure we stake the cables down and sleeve them so that the wires don't experience much bouncing around relative to each side of the solder joint.

    • @alibro7512
      @alibro7512 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks Frank. You're right about the disconnect which is why I connected a second contactor so that it would break the pack at cell 48/49 just like Nissan did. I ended up cutting out the explanation as I had already droned on long enough but the Leaf BMS is galvanically isolated at that point to protect it when the service disconnect is pulled. And I figure the wires folded over and soldered will be just as secure as a crimp and takes up a fraction of the space.

    I'm interested in maybe making a golf a mini-eCamper removing the seats and interior stuff. Coupling the Golf to a controller inside the towing vehicle it could engage the motor on up-hills and regen-braking on downhillls. Finally, the drive can help an old-man parking it once decoupled from the tow vehicle (retain the steering wheel and driver's seat only.). Let's collaborate!

Thanks for giving it exposure and saving me bringing the bike to the PC. I've got the Bafang 750w and from factory had the max amps set at 25amps. Set it back down to 18amp and lowered some of my PAS to conform with 25km/h max speed. Anyone trying don't forget to READ settings before changing any settings or you will get very odd results.

    Didn't have a wire on hand, but I used a metal washer, so that worked for me. The motor has 100 magnets. Should I set the parameters as 100 or do I need to figure out the ratio? Bought an M5 display that has 23 parameters to replace an S866 display that failed on me. The S866 shorted and gives an E10 error code. The new M5 display fixed that issue. PAS does not work and the throttle gives an E08 code since it shorted when it was wired incorrectly. Probably won't see an error code for PAS until the throttle is replaced, but the PAS light flashes when using the pedals.

    Hi, Thanks for the video! I have a BAFANG BBS-01 and I am interested in reprogramming as well. What I would like to check first is if I would be able to do the following: I am experiencing that in any of my 5-levels, the BAFANG seems to only assist when I peddle in slow cadence, while I would like to have assistence when Ipplying less force on the pedels at higher cadance. If I were using the bms correctly the thickness would matter but it turns out I can only turn the bms on when off load. In other words when not driving. This is because of the resistance between cells 40 and 41. When driving cell 40 shows wildly out of balance because of the voltage drop between the packs. When unloaded it is fine.

A bms has the positive of every cell connected to the neg of the next, so the voltage shown for each cell is in relation to the previous one. That is OK when the resistance between each cell is the same but if some idiot puts 5m of cable between two cells it will have a resistance, even if it is 50mm2. There will be a few mV voltage drop which skews the reading for that cell.

    This is one of the first major DIY jobs I did on my 2004 C Class. A very satisfying job. I bounced around a few TH-camrs before bravely going forth. Having the right tools is the biggest part of getting it done right. Not having any mechanical background doesn't help, so sometimes, if the job looks too complicated or is likely to make the Car unroadworthy, it's straight to the mechanic. My next task is the MAF sensor on the M271 Compressor, which on every other engine is a breeze, but this one is a pain in the a$$, and while I'm at it cleaning the throttle body, and then (if I get lucky and brave) the Valve Cover gasket as they are all seemingly related in processes.

    Hi Ali...... Yes, something I thought about when I still had the Euno...... I designed a fuse into the pre-charge line thereby blowing the fuse if for one reason or another my main contacttor decided to go open.... This will save the resistor and let you know there is a main contacttor fault.... I understand you had a backfeed issue but, putting a fuse of a suitable rating after your pre-charge resistor will help prevent it from being toasted again.... This ev stuff is actually really simple to design, the problem is you need to think about A: multiple systems and then B: connecting and incorporating those systems while isolating the low side voltage from the high side voltage and there, this can become blurred leading you to miss such a fault as a back feed which you 99.5% of the time when dealing just with low side, would have caught almost instantly.... Steady as she goes..... You'll get it sorted, I'm just glad you did not become part of the negative statistics....

Those high power fuses out here cost a couple of hundred bucks in my money, and, not every shop carries stock or even the correct values, so I did that out of necessity........ I envy you being where you are with access to what you have, hence, why I can only look and comment from my armchair position..... Plus.... I've heard people say hindsight is always 20/20....... But, if it were easy, then, everyone would be doing what you are doing...... And therein lies the difference....

      I think the main problem was, even though the fuse blew the car still operated normally. Until it didn't. The timer module was still operating normally and (glitching normally unfortunately) . A fuse on the resistor would have saved it and caused the car to cut out but without any harm to anything except the fuse. I've also put a 1500µF cap across it which seems to have cured the glitching and waiting for a delivery off 100nF ceramics to do add to it to be sure.

    • @GapRecordingsNamibia
      @GapRecordingsNamibia 4 หลายเดือนก่อน
