BRC Fallow Deer is a Kansas deer farm. The Deer Wife blog at brcdeer.com details our journey of starting our fallow deer farm and all the joy and challenges we have encountered along the way. This TH-cam channel also highlights our journey with the videos created for the blog.
FIXED?? TYM T474 3-point improvement/Modification #farming #hacks
I'm not sure I "fixed" it, but it's definitely an improvement on the T474 3 point hitch travel. I'm hoping some product improvements might take place in the future, to make this tractor function as well as it can.

Bringing an International Harvester 430 baler back to life was the perfect 2023 winter project. It is so important to have reliable equipment in proper working order. We planned to create our own alfalfa field in order to produce some of our own bales to feed to our fallow deer herd. In an attempt to keep this as low cost as possible, Brendan took on the task of restoring this baler. It definit...

Sitting Bull had an appointment in the barn while the vet crew was here. HE had a semen draw and a quick antler cut. Now he is in the holding pen waiting for the gate to the doe pen to be opened. The fall is his time to get to work and make sure all the girls have been covered. This is very important job on the farm as we want to make sure all the does have a fawn next summer. #fallowdeer #deer...

How easy/difficult was it to find a vet team willing to work with deer?
Well, I have a couple of connections for the vet for the AI process, my sister also happens to be a vet, so that helps the rest of the year
@brcdeer you lucky dog.
Awesome upgrade! Im looking at getting into fallow myself
Cool! I’ll answer any questions you might have!
Really appreciate your analysis! With all the compact tractors on the market now, it makes the search for a new tractor tough. Like you, I'm not brand blind. I have specific needs or a tractor, so I let that drive where i look. TYM is currently my front runner for a number of reasons. Thanks for the video.
Yeah, I went to a bunch of dealerships. Each person has their own set of requirements and focuses, there’s no one size fits all tractor, that’s for sure.
Wish I would’ve found this video sooner. One of the best trimming videos I’ve seen. I always find my self spending hours trimming fat and silver skin. I never know if I’ve trimmed enough or not and I always have 6-10lbs of trimmings from a whole deer. I trim so much silver skin off. If I see it I trim it. Next year I will try to trim less
Next year man! Big time savers are, cook the shanks whole, don’t trim them at all. And same with the shoulders. Although, I sure like that flat iron steak, if it’s a big enough bodied deer.
Hydraulic top link, if you have rear remotes
I do have rear remotes, but if I install a hydraulic top link, I no longer have rear remotes. My problem with the Hyd top link are this, they take a set of my remotes to accomplish something that is a design issue, also that’s more junk in the back of the tractor, making hooking up pto and what not more cumbersome, and lastly, I don’t typically need adjustability for what I do, I need repeatability.
Summit hydraulics makes a multiplier kit for rear remotes, can turn your single into 4 spool, probably more, manual levers or solenoid with rocker switches. Top and tilt kit for 3pt to solve leveling. Can probably swap valve for variable flow valve and slow it down. Does yours have spring back or detent? Wonder if the valve is designed like that for the detent needed for backhoe 🤔
I think I’m following what you’re talking about, if not, we might be talking past each other. The 3 point is a position type system, meaning as I lift the lever, it lifts the 3 point to a corresponding position. Versus the rear remote, which is a valve (yes with detents in my case….unfortunately), where you just let fluid in or out, and you have to set your position “manually”. Yes the 3 point issue is a valve issue, but this valve is down inside the cast housing of the rear axle, and not any way to adjust speed. The flow is all built into the valve housing. But, yeah multiplier may be a solution at some point.
Wouldn't Pat's easy hitch instead solve the problem? I'm looking at a 474 but I'm older and disabled so thinking that and a ptolink. Add a hydraulic top link too.
I’m not exactly sure. I’ve never used them personally.
Really glad you posted this video! You're dead on when it comes to raising the table height. I spent HOURS processing a doe, huntched over and trying to get every bit of silver skin, connective tissue, and that translucent membrane off of the meat. The backstraps were the simplest part, but the hams kicked my butt and by the time I got to the shoulders I was tired and wore out. I'm definitely going to try out your suggestions. Thanks!
Yeah that table height makes such a huge difference in fatigue
I have the same tractor and always fight trying to raise my blades in small increments. I try to let small amounts of gravel or dirt fall out over distance but usually end up dumping the whole thing. Very aggravating.
If anyone ever finds a solution to help that problem I would love to hear about it.
Yes!!!! I fought the battle and I was told “tym engineers are aware of the complaints, and they will not be addressing the issue”. I dug through the entire system hoping to find something I could fix. But it’s a design flaw in the valve or the feedback linkage.
@@brcdeer Thanks for understanding the problem and at least wrapping your head around the problem. Maybe a new model will have that fixed and with hope the new valve can be maybe purchased and switched over to current model.
@@waynelowry5528 Yes, I even looked to see if the Mahindra version had a different part number valve, and it's the same. According to my dealer, they made a change to the valve recently, but it doesn't appear that they rolled to a new part number or -number. Otherwise I'd be looking for one of the old valves.
$14k buys a lot of attachments! on my 494 the cutting edge was a huge improvement peeling sod.$200 also a rear hydraulic top link is $250 at your door with hoses and connectors. HOLLAND SPARE PARTS about 6 days. KUKJE A2300 the most simple modern tractor engine on the planet. you should get 200-400 hours b4 Regen. I run mine on auto throttle 85% of the time. every ten hours I run her hoit for an hour or two. peace my friend
Yeah. I don’t do much with a blade, or things that require implement pitch changes on the go. In my case I’m not sure it’s worth the extra hoses and what not being back there all the time.
thats a fantastic engines KUKJE A2300 mech fuel injection. for you the T494 T574 my 2022 T494 was 30k with rimguard and 3rd function and cutting edge. I had a 2021 Kioti NX4510 and both are fine machines but the 494 has a bit more ass to her. just due to you being tall 494 574 4820 may have been better for tall guy. 4k difference. great vidjas 300-400 hours to Regen is also a big deal. one computer. 6 sensors is super easy to work on
All of those things attracted me to the tractor. Yes a 494 woulda fit my size better….but I had some low gates and things and it would required a total change to how I store my equipment due to the longer tractor.
What do you guys farm fallow deer for? Do you sell them to high fence ranches or is it their venison and antlers?
We sell to other breeders, and for stocking hunting preserves. There are markets for things like antlers, but we haven’t really gotten into that yet. There’s also a meat market that we haven’t sold into yet.
Interesting
Thanks for the demonstration. I'm waiting delivery of a 574 due anyday now. I made the mistakes of buying a Mahindra 4510 a few years ago. It was the worst machine I ever operated in 55 years of running tractors almost everyday. The 1st project with the TYM will be to drag the Mahindra out of my way.
Oh no. It’s too bad that some machines aren’t built well. Hopefully the 574 treats you well!
Bob cat is a kioti not ls
When I said it out loud, I knew it didn’t sound right…. Thanks for the correction
Correction tym is South Korean. But assembled is Georgia . When jd breaks you need one of their service tech to come fix it and I’d is also moving their mid to subcompact line to Mexico just for profits so there goes about 1100 jobs
Yes. John Deere moving jobs without dropping prices, is also a strike against them. I understand the pain Modern unions can cause (I live it in my job), but there has to be a better solution than just leaving the country.
Interesting...my reply got taken off !
I think I found your comment. Replied to someone else’s? I just replied to that one.
As a T474 owner myself who pushes to see what my tractor can do , i trully thank you for taking the time to do this test...and to put numbers with it. So much on the internet is B.S. Nice to see something honest !
Thanks! I’ve got a couple other things for the next video that might be useful. Stick around.
I'm subscribed ! Look forward to seeing what you have in store !
I love ingenuity, so those improvements you made are spot on in my opinion.
Thanks! We should all try to make our tools better!
I used mine to (try) to lift the end of a 20 foot shipping container with the other side on wheels. It BARELY did the job. If I could get it off the ground it would keep it there, but it had a real tough time with the initial lift and I felt like I was beating the crap out of it. Luckily, I only had to move the containers 50 feet or so to get them into the position that I wanted. Also, I absolutely agree about the steering technique. Any time I have heavy weight on the front, I am very easy with the steering and avoid getting it anywhere close to max turn. Small turns, back and forth if needed and only turning while moving. 250 hours - no issues (yet). Mine has the backhoe on it for counterweight and weighted tires. Thanks for the video.
I bet that backhoe is handy….
@@brcdeer At times and the counterweight of it is nice but it does take up a lot of space when you need to take it off and store it to hook up another implement. Could stand to have a little more power also. If I had to do it over, I think that I would have gone with a 574 and the BY85 hoe. Definitely glad I didn't go any smaller.
I wrestled with the 474 vs 494. But my farm is a little congested, and as odd as it seems….i was nervous about going any bigger.
@@brcdeer And that is the other problem with the backhoe - it adds about 7 feet or so to the back of your tractor. I'm always having to watch the back when making turns and working around trees. It can be difficult to maneuver in tight places.
Oh yeah….i bet a lot of things get accidentally taken out by backhoes on tractors!
I totally agree with a lot of your CON details. Hopefully TYM will listen to some of these videos and take heed.
Thanks. I got pretty beat up on some other platforms for stating my opinion, I’m hoping for the exact thing that you said. Improvements can’t be made to “unknown” problems. And also, I’m just sharing my opinion….take it for what it’s worth.
@@brcdeer I love my smaller TYM T254, but I also made a few improvements. Im happy with it and you sure cant beat their pricing. Im also fortunate to have a very good local dealer.
Cool, yeah I couldn’t beat the performance for the price.
The big thing with the region keep it from happening have to keep your RPMs up when you're using the tractor it keeps it from regening because you get it hot enough that's on most tractors
Yeah I could definitely tell a difference if I ran something that took a lot of pto horsepower. It would help for sure. But honestly, it didn’t seem to be the high rpm that helped, as much as pulling a load at high rpm. I think JD put out a video saying that “low load” high rpm operations produced more soot, and to balance the rpm to your load.
I have a 2020 474 cab at home. We have a 2021 4066m at work. I would take the 474 over the deere any day. Just a quick pointer when unloading something heavy like that out of a bed or whatnot. LIft it up and pull the vehicle away. That way if something bad goes down you aren't going to mess up the vehicle.
That’s good to know. I compared the Deere, but just couldn’t justify the price. Not a bad idea, I do that sometimes with trailers.
How old is he here? Is that his second or third "head"? Love your channel. Have a fallow deer farm over here in Sweden :)
Oh cool! If you ever see bright yellow medical “king air” airplanes flying around Sweden, I did the flight testing for those! Never got to go over there though. So he’s 2.5 years old right now. This is his second set of antlers. I can’t wait to see how he grows next year!
@@brcdeer Wow but this was one of the AI:s right? I saw he had Bullwinkle in his lineage if I remember correct. Well great videos and If you're ever in Sweden I'll show you some deer farms over here. :))
Yes, he is actually an embryo transfer! Embryo collected in Texas, installed in a doe in Oklahoma, then once born he found his way to Kansas! Yep, his dam is a bullwinkle daughter, and his sire is Chief, a big buck that has produced lots of great bucks.
Yes taters and green beans.
I like how you did the garlic, tyme and rosemary right with the butter.
Pro tip for crock pot, add a 1/4 or 1/2 stick of butter so the deer fat will mix with it. Makes the fat on the top easy to skim off and helps with the waxy fat texture issues.
I do like adding butter to venison!
Crock pot rules on front shoulder.
Yes! And so easy!
When you ask the processor for blade in shoulder roast and they just throw the whole shoulder into the grinder this makes so much sense.
Man I’m split between a blade steak (flat iron) and the roast. They’re both so good
Coconut oil is better
We like butter at our house.
@brcdeer I know it's awesome 😎
Good video! Good job 474!
Thanks. It was honestly a spur of the moment thing, because I needed to get the feed put away!
It's nice to have approximate numbers, every time I try something and the tractor doesn't do it, I just know that my tractor can't lift the front of my Cummins powered 4WD Dodge.
Well the Cummins block, oil, front axle, gear oil, frame, body, radiator with coolant, and rims and tires …. I don’t doubt it didn’t lift it, you’re pushing 5,000 - 5,500 lbs I. That half of the rig, maybe more! I have a 1 ton Cummins, my third Cummins… she is a heavy beast.
Right. Hopefully this data helps somebody decide on a tractor size
These tests are great. Thats right about in line with what I get on a 2515h with almost exactly the same loader specs. With a crane scale set 2 ft out on 340lb forks it lifted right around 2000lbs at 4-5 ft height. Filled tires and 800lbs of ballast. Maybe eek out a little more with more ballast.
Oh yeah! Good to know. I bet you can lift way more than me on the 3 point though….
I appreciate real life tests like this. 🚜
Thanks! It just happened the work out today! But I hope to bring more stuff like this, as I encounter it.
Bottom line is the Bottom line. Money is what drives a lot of small farms. I am ok with Red or Orange paint.

@@johnburk9157 It’s a “durafit LS07” fits the 474 seat. I’m pretty happy with it for something like $40
An easy fix for your 3 point angle problem is a hydraulic top link. It comes in handy for a lot of other things too.
I’ve considered that option. My hesitation is, I use my rear remotes, and a quick hitch, so I’m hesitant to have to add something that takes up space, and when I disconnect it, I have to manage loose lines. I’m not entirely against it, just haven’t warmed up to the idea yet.
Looks delicious! Making tomorrow
@@dianeb9435 I would love to know what you think!
seems like you should just bought a john deere with all the complaining and nitpicking
No tractor is perfect, that’s for sure. But it sure is nice having the extra performance of the tym vs the John Deere I was considering.
@ but you was all down on the tym and bragging up John Deere I was hoping you actually tested it with a ton on the forks But you didn’t do anything like that
Yeah. I have since then. I was trying to give some initial opinions. But you’re right, it was not a comprehensive comparison. It is more my initial (50 hours of use) impressions. I have carried 2000 pounds on a pallet with it. And I plan to bring more info in later videos. I also didn’t want the video to be 3 hours long, it was long enough as it is!
At least you'll have an idea of what to expect and what to look for when you go the cheaper route. I think that's the real value in a video like this. Sounds like you have a TYM and took it personal. It's not about you, it's about the machines so get out of your feelings. Very informative video that anyone without bias looking for a tractor will appreciate.
Where did you get the seat cover....?
It’s a “durafit LS07” fits the 474 seat. I’m pretty happy with it for something like $40
Having deja vu. I know I saw this video yesterday. Nice improvements to the stick!
Yeah….I’m not a TH-cam expert and I had copyrighted music apparently. Oops. Had to repost it.
Some good information there. Looking forward to future videos on the 474. I’ve had mine about one month now. Seems like the three-point is jerky going up or all or nothing but goes down smooth. Does yours do that also?
Yes! One of my top complaints! And I went back to the company and got their response to it. I’ll be addressing it in the next video.
TYM owns Branson tractors.
Yep. It’s a little strange with all the model overlap. I’m wondering how they’ll handle that.
John Deere and Kubota have both gone crazy in the head with pricing over the last few years. There was always a gap between these Korean tractors and the Kubotas/ John Deere but now its really hard to justify the additional cost as wide as the gap is today.
To go along with the price gap has to be significant advantages. In my vote the JD dealer is a big plus, but, I do my own maintenance and I’m hoping I don’t have major breakdowns. Also, it’s a compact tractor, not a complicated combine. If the JD tractors were completely made in the USA, I would have bought it. But again, they’re slowly becoming more and more non-USA built, so I can’t justify a premium for the appearance of some US manufacturing.
We have a 474h bought last spring. LandscapinLandscaping company. Got about 400ish hrs. Replaced bucket with real bucket. 3/4 yard bucket. Installed 275 yds top soil last week. We like it a lot. Iv also had a jd 4600 bought new and a jd 970 bought new.
Thanks for the testimonial! I’m hoping I get years of good service!
Good video everyone has to pick the tractor that fits there purpose. I've had mahindra 1626 Branson 2515 on paper the Branson supposed to out do the mahindra well in my case real world it didn't come close cause couldn't ever get enough ballast on back to lift anything heavy. I got a kioti ck3520se shuttle shift i love it can pick whatever i need to whether i have any ballast or not. But i also have a great dealer which makes it even better. Thanks for sharing be safe
Ending up with the right tractor is a success in my book. I test drove a used John Deere compact, I forget the size, before the 3r/4r nomenclature. But about between those two sizes. Didn’t have ballast. I went into a pile of dirt, and went to lift, the bucket never moved, it just lifted up the rear end…. That surprised me.
the big deal is the KUKJE A2300 48 hp mech. fuel inj. i have a T494 and has not yet done regen and im at 92 hours bang for buck TYM is the one. alsoo Kioti.. Yanmar nice quality fit n finish. i had one of each since 2018 all were fantastic. A2300 is super easy to work on
Yeah I’m hoping the kukje lives up to its reputation! There’s not much reason for engine computers and 25 sensors on a compact tractor. It’s kind of like the computers they put in clothes washing machines these days….why?!?! That being said, yanmar makes a good engine as well.
I have a TYM T474CS (That is Cab and Shuttle shift) I love mine. I have a couple hundred hours on mine. I am subscribed to many of the channels that have deals for tractors, and others that don't have deals, for nearly all the brands. I find humor in the fact you chose to impugn their integrity when so far, you have not pointed out an issue that I haven't seen pointed out by people whose integrity you question. I am now subscribed to you as well. I am very much a fan of the Kukje engine, and the fact that so many brands have chosen TYM as the OEM for the models that they rebrand. At the time I bought mine, an equivalent model was being made by TYM for Mahindra, Bad Boy, Rural King, and previous to that they made the Cabela's tractor. As I said, I'm subscribed so we will have opportunity to communicate in the future.
I’m going to try to bring good stuff. Facts can be inconvenient things sometimes. Sponsorships have never been touted to bring impartiality.
Most people today get excited or distracted by technology. At some point we need to ask is the tech worth the higher cost and how long will the tech last especially on a tool that works hard in the elements.
Agreed. I like gadgets, but I also recognize their issues…
Long and BORING
Glad you enjoyed it. Thankfully no one is forced to watch videos on TH-cam, and I spent time to put in chapters so folks can skip along if they aren’t interested in a certain thing.
This was the best tym review I've seen.
I will do my best to be honest with my comment. 3-point hitch geometry is based not only upon the tractor, but the thing you are hooking up. The John Deere quick attach is set up perfectly to work with certain John Deere models. If you will notice, your quick attached top link mount is extremely high. Quick attach systems are not universal. If you put a normal three-point hitch implement on, it works perfectly. The T474 has telescoping 3-point hitch arms so there's really no need for a quick attach. Your quick attachment only works guaranteed for John Deere branded implements. Every implement manufacturer has different measurements for their mounting points. There is not a universal 3-point hitch standard.
I will definitely be looking into this! That being said, I hadn’t even hooked up a quick hitch, the tractor was still on the lot, and my brain went “something about this 3 point geometry is not right”. I will mess around with different quick hitch setups. My research said (if I recall it correctly) is the top link should attach to the tractor 18” above the lower arm attachments in the standard cat 1 setup. I think my tym measured something around 13” at the top hole. Based on that I’m still inclined to say it’s not optimal, but I will mess around with different quick hitch setups.
also, I wouldn’t give up my quick hitch for nothing. Yes the telescoping links make hooking up much easier, but no comparison to the quick hitch, at least with my implements.
Square peg in a round hole 👍👍
How so? I think there’s some confusion in the case of the 3 point, between “it’s not designed optimally or to accepted industry standard” and “well there are ways to make it work”.
@@brcdeerthat is the entire point. There is no industry standard. Every manufacturer's distance between pins is different. Three point hitch attachments have been made since the 1930s and there are literally millions of implements out there. All of them have different measurements.
All tractors have occasional issues, inconveniences, and have things you wish were done differently. The large difference in cost can make up for a lot of stuff.
I agree. Like in many things, you often get what you pay for. In my case I needed the performance, and I WANTED the perceived quality of the John Deere. I love the old John Deere tractors, I grew up on them, and I still drive them on the family farm. In my case I couldn’t justify the difference. Hopefully I don’t regret it!
