We bought a house in Croatia 12 years ago, every year since purchase we have traveled by car to our house from Cambridge, until 3 years ago we were able to take advantage of the fact that Croatia was not a member of Schengen but since then we were required to, and got a permit to reside under the EU Article 50 as house owners and now have temporary residence approval until 2032. BUT we still encounter the problem at Dover and Calais with petty over officialdom that depending on the border control officers mood mean we either get waived through or we have to stop and fill out a massive number of forms and are told that there isn’t a facility in place yet and eventually waived through, the whole deal is just bullshit designed to isolate UK citizens and all we are doing is a bit of pay back with some bullshit of our own!!!

Those automated scanners are great.... Last time a arrived to Australia 3 terminals failed to scan and at the end I had to go with manual check....so I wasted 1 hour in line instead of 5 min (this was very quiet time on the airport) It will be so much fun during peak times.

It’s all about milking money out of citizens in times of financial repression. What before stand for normal it’s not anymore. Except money issue, we have indirect “security”(homeland)profile measures. Some less but the same as in corona time. And as 3th. all this could backfired and make people less travel(see other comments). So we again metaphoricaly change into “10 minutes cities”. Essentially it’s all about money and mutual connectedness to it. I’m interested how the world would become in a decade or two. Perhaps they may cancel some of these rules. We may see.
