This film offers more of an escape rather than being in the depths of Japanese society like the previous films. Instead of politicians, it's somewhat average people we follow. As a SEL fan and lain obsesser for over 4 yrs you have described the theme and message very well! The message the show is trying to convey the audience is how online persona and in real life personality signifies the importance of being in touch with reality and escaping reality. This also emphasises how much time is spent in the internet (wired) and how connected people feel whereas a person who isn’t rlly into the internet may not feel connected and attached. Because lain is connected and bonded in the wired she creates 2 selfs and meets other people like her but also warns her about having an online persona and mentions their experiences and existence. I analysed her and the show so I would to say more but I think this is worth mentioning the most :3

@@justnoah2073 Ah in that case I'll make sure to sub for the future. I've also seen all the showa Godzilla films and I think hedorah is like top 5 for me from that era. Nothing really beats the original for me though, that's the best. Hedorah was cool because I like how it was not just a film about pollution, but also just a really uniquely shot film. There's a lot of intense scenes in there that make you feel like Hedorah is a genuine threat. The most memorable scene for me was how Hedorah flew over the city and just killed everyone so easily. There was no sound either, so it felt super impactful....everyone was gone in an instant. I get it's meant to mimic the idea that pollution would make our world desolate in a dramatic way, but wow that was really chilling for me. But then you got silly scenes like Godzilla flying with his breath. Silly showa camp like that is fun lol. Thanks for replying to my comment! It's great to see people review and care for these films so many years later :)

This show has a lot of stuff to talk about. I could do a much longer video, but it seems others have done that. I wanted to focus on the core theme and message. But I do find it it all fascinating. Like Lain splitting into two people, because she feels the Wire version of her is different than her real version. Interesting how they knew people would act differently online. This adds to the horror, because there is a fear of self. Which plays into isolation, because she doesn't believe she even has herself. And with that fear of self, the more she wants to separate herself from others. Plus, how in the Wire everyone around her just becomes her echoing back to her. Further increasing the isolation she feels. She feels there is no one but her, and she doesn't want that. Anyway, interesting show!

Something I think is also important to mention about the Shindo and Godzilla scene. Shindig also felt guilty for leaving the dinosaur for dead on the island, and now that he realizes that that dinosaur turned into Godzilla, it lead to his actions having a hand in creating Godzilla. When Godzilla meets him up face-to-face, you can actually see Godzilla seem to recognize him and even start to cry a little bit. Shindo confront his guilt and sins and asks Godzilla to kill him, with Godzilla hesitating to kill him, but eventually does anyway. Shindo not only payed the price for becoming to powerful but also creating Godzilla, something that shouldn't exist, yet it does.

Interesting viewpoint. I was focusing a lot on the big metaphorical meaning, but I love discussing the characters as well. Shindo truly was a multifaceted man, making him a complex character. While in Japan, they do have more freedom because of the smaller movie market, allowing the creativity of these artists to actually show.
