Honestly, I don’t understand why there’s so much focus on Mary! Her character is arrogant and hard to sympathize with at times, even though she’s strong and attractive. I feel like the attention is only because she’s the eldest daughter and responsible for Downton Abbey. But for me, Edith is way better! She’s been through so much pain and challenges, yet she grew and evolved into a strong and independent woman. That makes her more relatable and human, in my opinion. I’m currently watching season 6 (about halfway through), so I’m almost done, and my heart is definitely with Edith 🍒

Mary and Edith are so toxic to each other. They each destroyed the other’s happiness. Yet I felt for Edith more. Mary was so bitchy and condescending to her from the beginning. I think Edith’s character grows more through the entire series, which is why she becomes a fan favourite.

While his mother excuses him, Bates was actually guilty of family violence to his wife. Not all violence is physical. But it also shows perpetrators can change.

Mary doesn't deserve Matthew.

I forgot that Charlie Cox was in this. Somewhat between Stardust and Daredevil. I liked his character in both of those better than in here. 😊
