Gone Wild Camping

My channel's aim is to share with people my wild camping adventures. It does not matter if you are a seasoned wild camper or someone thinking about starting. I have been wild camping for roughly 20 years and still get great enjoyment from each trip. As I have got older I do not tend to camp in the harshest of weather anymore. I hope you enjoy my videos, if you have any questions or queries drop me a message and I'll certainly try to answer. Finally I would just like to ask that you leave no trace, in fact be a positive trace wild camper and leave your pitch spot better than you found it. Thanks for watching my videos.
A wild camp with my two favourite YouTubers.
I finally built up the courage to ask my two favourite TH-camrs to come with me on a overnight wild camp. We met in Hope a lovely Village in the Dark Peak. After a full breakfast in a local Café we made our way up onto the hills. The gusts were quite strong and I did struggle towards the end of the walk in. Dave (@DaveGoodman1959) and Steve (@Hengists_Wild_Camps) were very patient with me and I was really glad to see the pitch site. After I had a quick warm up in my tent we spent the evening chatting. I had a great sleep and in the morning we packed up and left for the walk back. We changed the route plans when it became apparent the going was slow due to the conditions. We headed down for Edale where we caught the train back to Hope. After having a pub lunch we bid farewell until the next one. I had a fantastic time with two wonderful gentlemen. Please take a look at their channels and give them a subscribe if you are not already following them.

I was lucky to experience a Hunters Moon on a windy wild camp in the Peak District. I managed to get to my destination in time for the sun to come out. I had myself a really relaxed camp and was wowed by the colours in the sky.
Solo Wild Camping at Margery Stones

I set of from the Langsett Reservoir and made my way up a well defined track to the high peak. I originally intended to visit both Margery Stones and Bull Stones. When I arrived at Margery Stones I got caught in a heavy shower without my waterproofs. Being soaked and cold I decided to pitch my tent and get warm and dry. The sun came out in the middle of the afternoon and so I took the opportuni...

I originally intended to go for a three day two night wild camp in the Peak District. The route was intended to stay on the tops. When I got up to Alport Castles I quickly realised there was no water high up to replenish with. I sat and had a beer and considered my options. I think if I had continued on with my plan I would have been able to find some. However, I chose to go into the valley and...

I went for a one night wild camp in the Peak District. It was a really hot day and was very busy. I intended to go to an old pitch site that I had used 10 years earlier but it had become unsuitable over the passage of time. I chose to go to a pitch site that was nearby and that I have used numerous times over the years. The wind kept the midges at bay and I had a great camp. I chose an alternat...

I went for a wild camp at Old Gang Smelting Mill. Its located in the valley next to Gunnerside Gill. The weather was sunny during the day but some rain arrived in the early evening. I did explore the old mill but chose not to include this in the video. I pitched in what used to be the Peat Store. which they used to supply the furnace. Mrs GWC' sausage rolls look bloody epic mate... Does she do mail order 😅... Another great video, well put together 👍
@CanvasandPeaks She sends me off with them everytime as well. They're great when your two thirds of the way up and flagging. Thanks for watching 👀 🙂 🙏
Another night another video... I've nearly fully caught up 😉 that looks like a cracking pitch that buddy.
@CanvasandPeaks I had a great night mate, it was a bit exposed to the wind in the evening. It was great having a spring next to me which meant I didn't have to carry up any water. Would have been better if I hadn't falling in it though 🙄!! Thanks for watching pal 👍
Another great video mate... I keep toying with a trekking pole tent but the wrath of the wife keeps me at bay.. if I bought another tent I think she'd make me live in it 😂😂

Great camp mate, really enjoyed that! Tent looked so cosy,. Can't wait for the next, new sub from us!

Hi Paul, new subscriber here. I subscribed after watching Dave's video of this trip. Your channel hadn't come up on my radar before so I'm looking forward to catching up on your videos. Looks like you had a brilliant trip. Thoroughly enjoyed watching. Take care.
@frederickridall628 Hi Frederick, I really appreciate you subscribing. Than you 😀. Daves videos are great, I've been watching him for a good few years now. It was brilliant finally getting to meet the man himself. Thanks again for watching and taking the time to drop me a message. ATB, Paul.
Thanks for sharing your adventure and great to see you all having a good time. To get rid of wind noise I got a Boya Mic BY-V1 (choose correct one for apple or Samsung depending on connector required) then I bought a pack of three Comica wind muffs (not sure they still sell them but there are loads similar. I got the one with a tie up so it attaches tightly to the mic. Never had a problem with wind noise since. Was a real game changer for making hiking and camping videos. Hope you’re well. Atb Gav 👍🏻
@HikingForHealth1 Hi Gav, thanks for watching. I use a DJI Action Camera and have a mic for it. I always forget to take it out when I film. I've copied Steve and Phil since the camp and put some shock cord on it. Hopefully, having it constantly hanging around my neck will remind me to use it. Time will tell 🙄 cheers mate 👍
@ nice one! Thought I’d mention it as it was tricky knowing what to do and when I got that combo it just worked perfectly for very little £££. All the best! And here’s to lots of adventures in 2025
Great video, certainly looked cold up there! 🥶☺
It was a bit parky, soon warmed up inside the tent tho. Thank you for watching 😊

I can’t tell you how much I appreciate being asked out on a camp with you Paul, I had a fantastic time you were such great company and I look forward to camping together in maybe some better weather next time. It’s not easy filming in other’s company especially when meeting up for the first time. See you soon ATB 🍻😊 Just read your description of the trip and really and well written so anyone watching should read that too. Cheers
@DaveGoodman1959 Thanks for watching Dave, I had such a wonderful time. I'm pleased you could both make it. Although we couldn't sit out and chat, that didn't stop the banter 🤣. Likewise mate, hoping for more settled weather next time. Thanks for watching pal 👍
What a great record of our trip out together Paul.👍 That was some ace snowy footage which you captured in this video mate. Cheers to you and Dave for your company on this camp, it was full of laughs and wonderful outdoor views. Thanks for the video mate.👍🙂
@Hengists_Wild_Camps Thanks Steve, it was a great camp. I forgot to mention in the comments that you and Dave fetched my water for me as I was Knackered 👍👍. Till the next (plod on) Steve 🙌

Another great video buddy... I love camping in the snow. I never remember to take an insulated food pouch though. It's always just shoved up my jumper 😂
Your "genuine" love for wild camping shines mate. Just sharing your adventures makes your content quality.. this shines over quantity every time. I'm deffo glad I found your channel. Keep it up bud 💪 Cheers Daz

@CanvasandPeaks Thank you mate, I appreciate you subbing and taking the time to watch and comment. I can see you have an outdoor channel and have subbed you back. Cheers, Paul.
I Know that spring 😁 used it many times Nice video Paul 👍
Hi Dave, its a lovely spot. Thanks for watching and taking the time to drop me a comment.
Nice trip Paul. I like it over there, much quieter than Kinder. Can I ask what Cnoc bag you use with your Platypus filter? Am I right in thinking you use it as a bigger replacement than the small one provided by Platypus?
@ChrisJB Hi Chris I use the Vecto 2 ltr 28mm opening bag for my Platypus filter. I also have a 42mm opening bag for my BeeFree Filter. I prefer them to the provided bags because they are indestructible. If you accidentally lean on them in your tent, they won't burst. With the wide opening at the top, it is so easy to just scoop up the water. I've never regretted buying them pal. Hope that helps 👍👍
@GoneWildCamping892 Thanks Paul. You know, I'm such a numpty. I have an old Cnoc Vecto 2l and just tried it on my Platypus and it works a treat. I had no idea! 🤦♂️
Mate, there's a saving already 👏
May I ask where you overnight park at Langsett? Always a bit of stress finding a safe place to overnight park. Great video btw. All the best, David
@@davidk.8608 Hi David, I park at Langsett Barn car park. It's free and has 60 odd spaces. It can fill up on weekends. Cheers 👍
@ thank you. I’ll give it a try!
Really enjoyed this video! Looks like s stunning location, I'll need to visit there to wild camp as soon as possible. The mic is a great bit of kit to prevent the wind ruining the sound. Awesome video, New sub from us!
@Roam.Outdoors Hi Roam outdoors. Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. I've seen that you have a Channel and so have subbed you right back. Thanks again ATB.

Another cracker of a video Paul. A pity that we didn't see you take a dip.🙂 Thanks for the video mate.👍
Lovely video! Thanks for taking the time to film, folk don’t realise how much effort it can be to do the wild camp solo its self but filming is next level. I love it as it brings another dimension to the camp for me and like having some old friends with me…the solitary beings we love to be is balanced with chatting to ourselves 😂 I imagine that my dads the camera, if only he would come with me but he prefers his home comforts now he’s retired. All the best and many happy camps ahead ⛺️
@SoloSarahBX Thanks for watching Solo Sarah 😀. I still find it a little nerve wracking talking to the camera. Being quite shy I find myself falling into Instructer mode, instead of my true character coming thru. It's wierd I know, it's a piece of plastic and glass. Anyway I'm prattling, I am really chuffed that you enjoyed my video. Looking forward to watching you're next adventure 😀
@ I think it gets easier the more you do it. Like most things in life. Just a big thumbs up from me to you for doing it any way. It’s always about the camp ⛺️ thanks for the reply too 😊 I’ll be out soon, been pretty busy of late, can’t wait though!
@SoloSarahBX Thanks Solo Sarah, life don't halve get in the way of 🏕 at times 😤
Fantastic video like always, me and Gary loved watching it. Looking forward to the next one.
@susandavies4250 thank you for watching, say hi to Gary for me 😀
I really enjoyed that Mr GWC such a nice honest account, is your pack the exsos pro as been looking at a few packs while on holiday here in the Peaks as mine is stretching at the seems a bit for a multi day winter walk. I know there are a lot to choose from but like you being a bit older I want to keep weight to a minimum. Loved the Video and I’ve enjoyed camping there and soaked up the evening warmth from those beautiful rocks. ATB 🙏😊🏕️
@DaveGoodman1959 Hi Dave, thanks for watching, mate 👍. My pack is the Exos Pro. It's a great pack other than the back adjuster system. The little toggles constantly pop out every time you take the pack off. You have to remember to put them back in before putting it back on. I've sent it back to Osprey, and they are trying a fix. It does get mentioned in all the reviews. Other than that, it's light and comfortable. I've got the larger version of the pack you wear and upgraded because I found it uncomfortable with the weights I carry. I'll let you know if the fix works 👍
@ Thanks for that info on the pack. Let me know if you want to sell the 60lt levity and how much. Cheers
It's a little grubby due to it's light colour. If you can somehow discreetly send me your address. I'll post it to you at the end of the month when Mrs GWC let's me have my pocket money 🤣. No charge mate, be nice for someone to get use out of it 👍
@ bloody hell Paul, I would hugely appreciate that. Thank you 🙏
Nice video 🙂👍
Thanks for the visit and taking the time comment 👍
Really good filming, and you had a dip, i did the same last month to cool off up Grindsbrooke!
@@Chilternwildcamper thanks Lesley, it was so hot I sat there for ages and took in the views with a beer 🍺 👍
Hi 👋 just come over to check out the channel. Lovely camp 😊 how reassuring to see that the gamekeeper was fine with you camping there as you were doing everything correct and responsibly. Sounds like he was very sensible with his decision to move the other people on a few weeks earlier but allowed you to stay. I’ve actually camped at the trig at the top near there recently and had no issues. But of course there are always a few people who seem to ruin wild camping by acting irresponsibly. Fantastic video I enjoyed that 😊
@yasminshikingmission Hi, thanks for popping over and taking the time to watch. It's a lovely place, not far from Gunnerside. That's a nice place to pitch as well but can get crowded at the weekend. I'm looking forward to watching your Derwent Edge hike as its my usual stomping ground 👍
Brilliant video Paul. I was just re-watching, as it popped up on my recommended feed and I was thinking to myself, 'I can't remember Paul's reply to me', so I clicked on the comments and found out the reason why. I never left a comment in the first place, doh! Once again, this is due to me initially watching it on the telly, so apologies mate for the late comment (better late than never lol). The walk up Cut Gate is one of my favourites. It was unlucky that the wind wasn't blowing from its usual direction once you were pitched at Margery Stones, but your tent handled it fine.👍 This was a cracking watch mate, and thanks for the mention at the halfway point.🙂
@Hengists_Wild_Camps Hey mate don't worry about forgetting to comment earlier. I do the same as you. I watch everyone's videos on the TV and then comment through my phone 👍. Thanks for watching pal, I do appreciate it loads. Thanks again for the parking info the other day, I've downloaded the app ready to use. I think Kinders my next target for a camp. Haven't been up there for quite a while. Catch you later Steve 👍
Cracking channel with lots of potential mate, just subscribed, from a fellow TH-camr 😉👍
@@PhilDodsworthOutandAbout Cheers Phil, I'll pop over to your channel and give you a sub back. Thanks again, Paul.
Which camera do u use and where is Margery Stones please?
@felicegreece Hello Felice, I use the DJI Action 4 camera for all my filming. Margery Stones is located in the Peak District. There are a few ways to walk up to it. The easiest is to park for free in the Langsett Reservoir car park and walk up from there. It's about a 5 mile walk up. You do gain height, but its steady going. Thanks for watching, Paul.
@@GoneWildCamping892 thanks but in which country is Peak District..? Thank you so much, you have a 🎤 also?
@@felicegreece Hi, it's in England. I use the DJI Mic that pairs with the camera 👍
@@GoneWildCamping892 thanks for all this valuable info. Btw, have you ever used this camera underwater for several minutes(I. e. hours) and if so, did everything go fine? Can it be used alone underwater without problem or does it need a waterproof case?

That valley is bloody stunning.. when walking along the top, we always stop in awe of it. 💚 Hope you get out on another one very soon mate.. all the best. 🍻🏕️👍
Thanks mate, that water was a bit of a life saver. I must have sat in it for over an hour. All being well om hoping to get out for a cheeky overnighter next week 🤞
Looked a great camp pal. Little difficulty opening your snack. But i see the Stellar opened easily! 😂😂😂
@darriec4529 I do not know what you mean pal 😉
A brilliant video Paul.👍 I'm a little late to the party here with this comment, but I only watched it from start to finish this morning. Some great tips in there mate. Here's some of mine; To save weight (if you use a spirit stove), use Bio-ethanol to wash your hands, it does the same job as alcohol gel. Also, when back at home, to create that gravel drive effect, press Rice Krispies into the treads of your car tyres.🙂 I really enjoyed watching this Paul. It's a pity about your toe and the midges, but despite that, it looked like you had a top time. Btw, I read our reply to Dave about us all meeting up, I'd be up for that mate.👍
Hi Steve, thanks for watching pal. I'm gonna try the rice crispy trick. There's no feeling like walking or driving on gravel 🤪. I was hoping you'd be up for an overnighter along with Dave. I avoid Facebook and so miss the opportunities to liase, my fault. On a positive note, you'd have someone to chat to as we blow out of our arses watching Dave the racing snake power up the hills 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. I'm really looking forward to the camp pal 👍👍
Hi mate, you chose a good day to start your journey off, ive been saying for a few years id like to pitch up at the Alport Castles or even fly the drone around it. I thought you encounter some midges at some point 😅 Anyway top vid.
