    Sweet thing as well when boosting a high gain amp. Instead of just a boost, throw in a fuzz with relaxed settings and it will do magic to your tone.

    You want the fuzz going into overdrive, not od into fuzz like you have it. Better yet, ditch the overdrive pedals and use your amplifiers own overdrive. It will sound better.

  • @Scoaster86
    @Scoaster86 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I think the reason this combination isn't talked about very often, is that it won't sound this good with most fuzz faces. The Band of Gypsys Fuzz has quite a different circuit than your typical fuzz face, and it has an entirely different input stage, which probably makes it play much nicer with the pedals that you put before it. Most pedals in front of your typical fuzz face will make it sound kind of awful, which is a common problem with fuzz faces (with a lot of fuzz pedals actually). So that's why it's often recommended to put your fuzz pedals to the front of the chain

    Ts is an od ,so your stacking them,one or the other may have subtle differences but they are designed to push the amp into od

    Hi! Are you concerned at all about the buffer from the TS interfering with the Fuzz pedal? It is my understanding that buffers and fuzz pedals don’t work well together.

    • @andybarberstudios
      @andybarberstudios 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It wasn't an issue, so long as you have a noise gate it seems to cut out on any fuzz from the 60 cycle hum. Also, I just like tinkering around so it might work with my setup but not for all

    I'm sure it's be said before in this comment section but this is the Band of Gypsys "Fuzz Face" which is NOT a Fuzz Face internally. It is the driver circuit for an Octavia and thus doesn't behave or interact like a traditional Fuzz Face. Imo the best way to use the BOG to get those Hendrix at Woodstock and BOG tones is to run into amp already breaking up/distorting, then run the "Fuzz" setting around Noon to 3 o'clock and push the amp with the pedal's volume knob. I didn't really think the BOG Fuzz Face sounded accurate to Jimi's but realized I was trying to use it like a traditional Fuzz Face. Watch the BOG footage and you'll see Jimi switch it on and off throughout songs instead of riding the volume like he did with Germanium Fuzz Faces. It's a different animal than a silicon or germanium Fuzz Face.

    Most informative video, Dude! Never mind what some rude comments say. I’ve had TS9 and I don’t own distortion pedals. My Fuzz Face BOG’s just arrived today and I haven’t had a chance to add on my pedalboard. You’ve certainly answered all my questions with this clear and concise video. And, yes, I’m putting the TS9 feeding my fuzz face. Trust your own instincts. You should do what sounds good to you. Keep up the great videos. Peace & Love. Greer from Georgia.

    It has been said that the Fuzz Face sounds best with nothing before it but the guitar. It needs to interact with the impedance of the pickups (especially if you want to clean it up with the volume control on your guitar).

    • @rebeccabailey527
      @rebeccabailey527 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      People say that, but jimi hendrix always ran the wah FIRST. ALWAYS. People say a lot of things, doesn't mean it's true.

    • @nickvictor7398
      @nickvictor7398 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Just because Jimi Hendrix did it doesn't mean it's the correct way to do it. Stevie Ray Vaughan did it the other way just like I said and he was much better than Jimi Hendrix and most of the guitar world says that's the right way to do it. You need the fuzz pedal connected directly to the impedance of your pickups to operate to the optimal level and to give you that volume clean up that everyone loves. of course you can do it the opposite way it's a subjective opinion but don't think everything's perfect because Jimi Hendrix did it! Stevie Ray Vaughan was much better than Hendrix. Next level 💯 👌

    it's funny, my first two 'drive' pedals were a bad monkey and a silicon fuzz face... I thought they sounded good but I still sold them and tried dozens of other dirt pedals. what did I eventually come back to? a tube screamer and a fuzz face.

    Andy - can I come to your place and try YOUR Dunlop mini FF? Why? Cos I went to a store today to try one AND try the fully CCW (counter clock wise) setting on the fuzz and it was terrible. Fully CCW it sounded like it was fully CW - . . . . twice around the clock! A heap of souless muddy crap!! Disappointing to say the least! (And yes I am quite comfortable with my playing ability and my ear) But truly - it'd be great to see or at least get more info on everything you did for this cool little demo. What guitar? What amp? Amp settings? What was between the output of your guitar and the input of the amp etc etc - How about for grounding, constantly comparing the affected signal to the "dry" signal? Or maybe it's true that two germanium transistors can sound worlds apart and that perhaps I need to try a heap of them. Does it really have to be this hard . . !!??

    • @JohnShalamskas
      @JohnShalamskas 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sounds like there was a buffer between the pickups on your guitar and the fuzz pedal. Wireless connections count as a buffer. That means the fuzz circuit is seeing a very low impedance instead of the roughly 10k impedance of the guitar pickups.

  • @walthompson8210
    @walthompson8210 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wow! at last! A fuzz demo where the demoer is not afraid to start with the gain 100% wound ACW (anti clock wise) Unlike 99.9% of all other fuzz demoers!! Listen to Hendrix Band of Gypsies (Gypsys?) Live at The Fillmore East and tell me Andy isn't on the right track to achieving that sound. Arguably still the greatest use of fuzz to this day! I personally find the Tube Screamer typically too notchy. Brutally cuts off top & bottom end but the whole idea of using it to volume boost only is definitely the way to go, with whatever pedal.

    try putting the fuzz in the effects chain first. Then mix them again and let me know... Obviously you have to start from a great basic sound, not like the one you have in this video! fuzzes are designed for tubes that work at a certain volume, otherwise you'll never get the desired effect.

    The fuzz needs to see the pickups of the guitar. Put it first in the chain before even the tuner. Buffers and fuzz don’t always play well together. Your setup looks like a stacked clean boost as long as you enjoy the sound it’s making that the most important thing. The sound you’re hearing in the room doesn’t seem to come across on TH-cam.

    Personally I'd use the fuzz with more gain and roll back the volume on the guitar to clean up the sound. I wouldn't use the tube skreamer in this scenario but if I did it would have next to no gain dialed and just used for a subtle boost.
