Good work Rob. I’m doing the run in 2025. Good to get an insight. Cheers bud, happy running
Please send me a fenix for Christmas ⛄️
Please send me a Fenix for Christmas Rob! All the best to you and your family for Christmas, and good luck for the Arc in January, it looks like you have some great events lined up for the first half of the year 😀
Thanks John and Happy Christmas to you and your family too. Hope.to see you at an event next year mate. 👍
Please send me a fenix for Christmas!!! 🙏 Arc 100 is an awesome race!!! Would love to go back but it always falls on my daughters birthday 🤦🏼♂️ I’ve got the lap and 7 valleys confirmed and a few more to enter after Christmas (and when the other half is out 😂)
Nice races Rob, and good luck explaining away the other races to your better half 😂. Thanks for watching.👍
Please send me a Fenix for Christmas. Good luck at the Arc Rob 👍
Thanks Matt.
Please send me a Fenix for Christmas Got the Arc 50 this year, the lap, clockwise and anti clockwise, the wall and the 7 Valleys Ultra, might do Cheviot Goat, depends if I get in Spine Sprint (Winter). Good luck on the Arc 100
Wow, great race calendar Mile. Best of luck with those next year. Thanks for watching. 👍
Please send me a Fenix for Christmas! will come in handy on my 18hrs+ of darkness in the Arc 😮
@@martinweston8147 It will indeed Martin, see you there. Thanks for watching mate 👍
Good luck in the ARC Rob, I’m not there next time but I’ll be following your dot! Please send me a fenix for Christmas 🎅
@@AdamReal-y4w thanks Adam. 👍
Please send me a Fenix for Christmas Some fantastic races lined up there Rob. The Arc 100 will be awesome and will be interesting to see how it pans out this year under the UTMB banner. Living down in Cornwall, the arc route is on my doorstep and the coverack to lands end stretch is just an awesome section. Wish you the best of luck for 2025 💪
@@richmckinley8866 Thanks Rich. I enjoyed the 50, the 100 will be an experience for sure 😀 Thanks for watching mate.
Please send me a fenix for Xmas. 🎉 Sounds like a good plan for 2025 fingers crossed for utmb. Iv got the lap in may Lakeland 100 in July and 7 valleys in September. Got afew little races in between aswell.
The lap is a great race Mark and the Lakeland 100 will be brutal but amazing. Good luck and thanks for watching.👍
@robsbeenrunning I did Lakeland this year but had been injured on the build up so only got 2 weeks training in before hand. Made it to 90 miles so wanted to return ti close the loop. I'm gonna try for the big loop at utmb in 2026
Please send me a fenix for Christmas ? 🎅 Thanks Rob for the prize draw and vids . All the best for the Arc I’ve entered a couple of 30 mile LDWA challenge events in Surrey for Jan and Feb and centurions hundred hills in March. May do Guernsey road marathon in April and probably Thames Path 100 in May . See how the fitness goes before entering any more !
That's a nice race calendar Michael, I will take a look at a couple of those races. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment and enter the draw. 👍
Please send me a Fenix for Christmas! Good luck with the Arc! I'm hoping to do the Ridgeway Challenge as well.
Thanks Craig. Hope to see you at the Ridgeway.
Please send me a Fenix for Christmas I'm running the arc of attrition again, hopefully sub 30 this time, also running the serpent trail 50k, 13 Valleys, Cheviot Goat and prob a few others I've forgotten about 😂
Nice, see you at the Arc 😊. I loved the Serpent trail, one of my favourite races to date.
Please send me a fenix for Christmas Great videos Rob 👍 All the best for the Arc, we will be dot watching 🙂
@@amc8277 Thank you. Good luck in the prize draw.
Sounds like you've got a few decent races already in the calendar for 2025 Rob. I have a few buddies running the Arc too. Good luck to everyone in the Fenix giveaway. Send someone a Fenix for Christmas! 😎🤘
Hey Ben, Yeah trying to get some good races in for next year. Hope you are well, and thank you for watching mate. 👍
Please send me a Fenix for Christmas 🎅🙏
Thanks for the honest review. Much appreciated. The dehydration/ fueling issue is just so easy to mess up. I've done it myself, yet I find myself forgetting just how fundamental it is. All the best and perhaps see you on the start line in Jan 25 for the Arc 50!!
Hi Graham, Thanks for watching the video and I hope it helps you in your Arc journey. I will be toeing the line for the 100 mile race in Jan, but good luck to you with the 50. Thanks Rob
For me, with Roman feet, the toebox shape is an absolute NO.
I got interested in Inov-8 shoes when they improved the shape of the toebox. The Trailfly is my first shoe from them. Now it's my hardest and heaviest trail shoe in my rotation (the rubber weighs a tonne!). I think its weakest point is the midsole-dull EVA, very stiff. If it wasn't for the poor midsole, the shoe would be really good, as the outsole is amazing on soft surface. The upper does not get soaked with dirt and is perfectly designed for the wet stuff on dirt roads and trails. Another thing is the drop (too high for me), but I had known that before I bought them. All in all, not suitable for longer efforts (21k+) because of the midsole. My shoes were manufactured in August 2024 and the midsole side is not painted. Additionally, there's a minor aesthetic change to the toe bumper look.
The Salomon Thundercross are a bargain currently. Well worth having a look. Great shoe. Think u can get them for around 75 quid
agility peak 5 needs a size (or half size) larger than normal, i found
I second this. Go up 1 size for ultras
Well done Rob
I have the wk450 and love them!
Well done Rob see you at the Arc then
See you there Tom. 👍
Thanks for this, super helpful!
How on earth do you guard against these things? I’m yet to work out a successful nutrition strategy for longer ultras
HI Conrad, It can be tricky. I do not normally struggle so it goes to show that the slightest mistake can ruin your day. All trial and error. Thanks for watching. 👍
how does it compare to the g270? if you had those
Sorry, I never had the G270, only the G300 max. Thanks
Great review Rob. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experiences with us. 😎🤘
I ran the Jurassic 100km and the Autumn 100 in the wide version. A great shoe. No blisters or hot spots. A bit slippy on the first leg of the A100 though!
@@SimonNewell-g6c Thanks for watching Simon. It's good to hear you experience in the shoe and congratulations on the A100 Jurassic 100km. Cheers Rob
Unlucky Rob . You were running so well and it’s a great race to have another crack 🏃🏻♂️👊
@@michaelbennett6778 Thanks Michael.
What was your electrolyte plan? If you were relying on aid station Tailwind, you may not have been getting enough electrolyes. Once your electrolyte balance tips over the edge, your gut won't be able to absorb water which it will just swill about in your belly, making you very nauseous. Might be worth experimenting with electrolyte intake?
@@nigelb1851 It was the same as normal. I always carry my own electrolyte tablets and Tailwind sachets, I think the aid station stuff is always too watery. It was a bizarre situation, never had a problem before. New challenge to resolve.
So unlucky to have those stomach issues Rob. Kudos for grinding it out back from the turn around point. 50 miles is still a super run. Rest, reset and go again! 😎🤘
Cheers Ben, very annoying as I don't normally struggle with GI issues, so a new one on me.
Weldone rob really enjoyed the footage
Thanks Martin, hope you are well.
Best of luck Rob. 😎🤘
Good luck 🤞 checking the weather forecast, not much wind overnight, when the temps drop it could get very misty along the river.
Yes, keeping an eye on the weather, it's been unpredictable recently. It will make it interested a night with the headlamp and the mist combined. 🙂. Thanks for watching.
Good luck !
Good luck with the A100 Rob! 😎🤘
Thanks Ben 👍
hard to hear you and see the device
Sorry old video. Great device though.
Great video, I know the Tomir 2 are on the market but I found a really good deal on the Tomir 1, I've had the Saucony Xodus ultra version 1, I know the Tomir are firmer but is there too much of a difference in cushioning between the Xodus and the Tomir? Or is it a type of cushioning that a Xodus Ultra 1 user can get used to?
Hi Said, Yes there is quite a bit of difference in the cushioning between the Xodus 1 and the Tomir 1. You would notice it on very long runs for sure. The Tomir 1 is not uncomfortable at all, but it is a lot firmer, it is just a different style of cushioning. Both shoes do a good job of protecting your foot from stones and rocks, just just do it differently. I still prefer the Xodus 1 cushioning for myself. Thanks for watching. 👍
@@robsbeenrunning Thanks for the reply Rob, I have the Salomon Sense Ride 4 which have a firm cushioning feel, I put the Xodus insoles in them and they gave me a bit more comfort for long distance, do you think if I put the Xodus insoles in the Tomir the perception of comfort would improve? Or do you think there would be no change in the feeling of comfort even with a Pwrrun+ insole?
@@saidpuentes968 Hi Said, the insoles in the Tomir 1 are not removeable, so if you put the insoles of the Xodus 1 into that shoe you would end up with 2 insoles, so I am not sure how that would work. My advice would be to get hold of a pair of the Tomir 1 and try them indoors on a hard floor, just in case you need to send them back. It's hard to say if they will be too firm for you or not, you would just need to try them. Thanks Rob
@@robsbeenrunning Hi Rob, thanks for this information. I thought the insoles were removable I've already ordered the Tomir and I'm waiting for them to arrive. I will follow your advice and test them. Thanks again, Greetings from Medellín, Colombia.
Well done Rob, that looked tough! I recognise that shirt! 😁. I have Dartmoor in a Day this coming Saturday and North Coast 110km on Oct 4th, so 🤞🤞
Thanks Ian, yes it was tough but a lovely course. Good luck for Dartmoor and the North Coast races, I'll have to look those two up as I am not familiar. I have Freedom Racing 5 Trails Ultra next Saturday and Centurion Racing Autumn 100 in October. That will wrap up my year. The on to 2025 training. 🙂
Good luck Rob. The race company is Climb South West, local to Exeter, they put on great races.
Hi Rob I’m hoping to pick your brain. What do you use to edit your footage and add music , text etc. just got a go pro to document my arc 100 training /race. Cheers
Hi Chris, No problem. I now use Adobe Premier Pro to edit footage and music. I also sometimes use Audacity to edit music if I need anything more complicated. If you are after something free to get you started, then you can get Kdenlive for editing your videos and Audacity for the music (also free). Hope that helps. Thanks for watching. Rob 👍
@@robsbeenrunning thanks Rob that’s a big help. Saw you at the arc 50 before we boarded the busses this year but didn’t want to bother you
@@Jannerjaunts You should have said hello, always up for a chat!!
Really enjoyed
Yeah, I had a race about a year ago I was wearing those shoes and I had a big rock facia at the climb up and it was raining and it was the rock was wet I could barely get up I mean I was real pain, but with the mega grip went right up guys with Solomon shoes, went right up he even some of the newer long peaks they they they didn’t have any issue when they went up and that a guy and he had a pair of Peregrin and and we’ve got up and over but she had to do that four times and but the second time it was all more dry so but that’s when I’m made me realize that oh this thing is not good on wet rocks. Great everywhere else, so that’s a good video. I’m enjoying this.
Hi Todd, Yeah I had some issues on my last race at the Lakeland 50, I was slipping on the wet rocks. It's a shame but Saucony have not managed to match the Vibram rubber yet.
Nice video
i have try the v8 in the store only but it feels like the grip in v7 is better ( i've run many miles with v7) do you feel the same?
Having never run in the v7 it's hard for me to say if it is better or not, but the v8 is definitely suited to the summer months, not the winter.
Compared to the v7 how does the sizing work out. Is it more or less the same or is it a bit smaller in comparison?
I didn't run the in v7, but from what I have heard, it is more or less the same sizing.
Kinda disappointing the midsole feels firmer. The softer feel of the first one is what made it one of my favorite shoes of all time
I agree, although I am getting used to the new firmer midsole. It's not as good as the v1 though.
@@robsbeenrunning I find it interesting that even though we're seeing a bunch of "max cushion" trail runners, they usually aren't soft or plush. So I guess it makes sense that this shoe is trending in the same direction. My favorite shoe I have right now falls in this category
@@victorystone1984 Yes, it's hard to keep up with the changes in shoe technology, the manufacturers seem to go from firm to soft to firm cushioning over the course of a few years. You would think they would have it all figured out by now, but of course they will not sell as many shoes if they can't find a reason to keep changing (innovating) them. 🤔
See you there. Just done the ultimate sin, just got new shoes 🙄 speedgoat 6, couldn’t get hold of any Xodus ultra 3 today.
Risky Mike, but I hope they work out well for you. It will be interesting to hear your thoughts on the Speedgoat 6. See you there mate. Thanks Rob
Hee-air-oh. Come on mate. It's not that difficult.
Found that very interesting. Thanks 😊 We are doing the 50k next year. Subbed as well thanks mate 😊
You will love it, it's a wonderful place to run. Glad you liked the video, thank you for watching. Who knows, I might see you there, I am running the 100 mile next year, or at least I am starting it! 🙂 Thanks Rob
