Centurion Running Autumn 100 - DNF
We headed west across to Goring-on-Thames for the Centurion Running Autumn 100.
This was my 2nd time lining up for a 100 miler and I was keen to improve on my previous time, which was at the 2023 UK Ultra South Downs 100 mile race. We were going for sub 24 hour this time.
The Autumn 100 is a unique race with 4 25 mile out and backs along the thames path and the ridgeway.

    What was your electrolyte plan? If you were relying on aid station Tailwind, you may not have been getting enough electrolyes. Once your electrolyte balance tips over the edge, your gut won't be able to absorb water which it will just swill about in your belly, making you very nauseous. Might be worth experimenting with electrolyte intake?

    • @robsbeenrunning
      @robsbeenrunning วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@nigelb1851 It was the same as normal. I always carry my own electrolyte tablets and Tailwind sachets, I think the aid station stuff is always too watery. It was a bizarre situation, never had a problem before. New challenge to resolve.

    Great video, I know the Tomir 2 are on the market but I found a really good deal on the Tomir 1, I've had the Saucony Xodus ultra version 1, I know the Tomir are firmer but is there too much of a difference in cushioning between the Xodus and the Tomir? Or is it a type of cushioning that a Xodus Ultra 1 user can get used to?

    • @robsbeenrunning
      @robsbeenrunning 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi Said, Yes there is quite a bit of difference in the cushioning between the Xodus 1 and the Tomir 1. You would notice it on very long runs for sure. The Tomir 1 is not uncomfortable at all, but it is a lot firmer, it is just a different style of cushioning. Both shoes do a good job of protecting your foot from stones and rocks, just just do it differently. I still prefer the Xodus 1 cushioning for myself. Thanks for watching. 👍

      @@robsbeenrunning Thanks for the reply Rob, I have the Salomon Sense Ride 4 which have a firm cushioning feel, I put the Xodus insoles in them and they gave me a bit more comfort for long distance, do you think if I put the Xodus insoles in the Tomir the perception of comfort would improve? Or do you think there would be no change in the feeling of comfort even with a Pwrrun+ insole?

    • @robsbeenrunning
      @robsbeenrunning 28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@saidpuentes968 Hi Said, the insoles in the Tomir 1 are not removeable, so if you put the insoles of the Xodus 1 into that shoe you would end up with 2 insoles, so I am not sure how that would work. My advice would be to get hold of a pair of the Tomir 1 and try them indoors on a hard floor, just in case you need to send them back. It's hard to say if they will be too firm for you or not, you would just need to try them. Thanks Rob

      Hi, Possibly too soft for a walking shoe, it would depend on what time of terrain you are walking on, for instance if you are walking in somewhere like the Lake District or Peak District in the UK, then you are going to need more structure to your shoe to give you stablility and protection, but if you are just wanting to use the show for light walks in the forest or taking the dog for a walk etc.. then the Hierro would be fine. @@robsbeenrunning Thanks Rob. What distance do you think these are good up to (comfortably). I'm 6'4, 223 lbs and looking for something up to 50 mile distances. Or do you have a different recommendation? I didnt get along with the Hoka SG's but i run in the Mafate Speed 4's, Asics Trabuco Max 2 and North Face Enduris 3's

      @@SeanColeman Hi Sean, They are good for 50 miles in my opinion but I’d try a pair on to be sure. For distanceI always go for the Saucony Xodus Ultra. Supreme comfort and good grip. Thanks Rob

    Hi great video. Planning on going to Sardinia. I an a road runner and will be hoping to continue marathon training build up. We were thinking of staying in Olbia. Do you know if there is flat running routes og approx 8 -10 miles or is it mostly trails . Thanks

    • @robsbeenrunning
      @robsbeenrunning 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Jessie Olbia has a good mixture of roads and trail, so you will be fine to run there. Depending on when you are going it can get very warm, like 45 degrees celcius, so running early is a must. I don't have any routes planned in Olbia but Strava might have some. Enjoy Sardinia, you will love it. Thanks for watching 😊 Rob

    Thanks for your review! Ran the last 65 miles of a 200-mile race, in November 2022, in the Tomir 1.0 but with an Inov-8 Boomerang insole to take off the edge. Performed very well. So far the 2.0’s new midsole is impressing me here in the Colorado Rockies. Godspeed!

      Thanks for watching and glad the 2.0 is working out for you. It's an improvement on the 1.0 for sure. Congratulations on the 200 mile race, very impressive. 👏

      Thanks for your review. Ran my first run in them yesterday across the Yorkshire Moors and they felt good. The jury is still out whether I use them for the upcoming Lakeland Trail 100k with my preference being the Speedgoat 5. 8 out of 10 Ultras I’ve done have been in SGs so I know they will be good for it however, the atomic could take the day. Up in Lakes tomorrow for a longer test. Thanks again. 🤙🏼

      Hi Roberto, It would be ok as long as you were not running in muddy conditions, the shoes lugs are not deep enough to cope with deep mud. Thanks for watching. 👍

    Hello, thank you for the review. You said that you usually wear size 10.5 and so do I. What is your foot length exactly that you're suggesting 11 size? Probably it is exactly my case. I tried Hierro v7 on the size 10.5, and they fit perfectly, but I found some info that this version v8 is tighter. Do you know something about that? Much appreciated!

    • @robsbeenrunning
      @robsbeenrunning 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, New Balance are well known for making their shoes a little small, so I'd always suggest sizing up by 1/2 a size. I think you have to just either try them on in a shop to check on sizing or order a pair and send them back if they do not fit. Everyones feet are different, so it's a bit trial and error I think. Thanks for watching. Rob

    My Xodus ultra v1 have done 530 miles and still look great. But the grip has let me down on any wet rocks and roots, very sketchy. I'm looking at getting the Tomir 2, love megagrip.

      Hi Mike, Agree that the grip from the Xodus Ultra does struggle on wet rock, I had that issue on the Arc of Attrition course, but the shoe is very comfortable so I forgave it's flaws. 🙂 There is a review coming to the channel soom on the Tomir 2.0. Keep an eye out for it. Thanks for watching. Rob

      I have the xodus ultra 2 and even on just slightly rained on pavement, it gets very slippy. I never had this issue with the peregrine 10, I wish Saucony would go back to that outsole
