How is ADHD Diagnosed? A Guide to ADHD Testing and Evaluations | Dr. Jared DeFife
Do you think you or someone you love might have adult ADHD? How does an adult get diagnosed with ADHD? What is ADHD testing? What should I expect from an adult ADHD evaluation?
You've got questions, I've got some insights and information about what to expect from the testing and evaluation process if you're trying to figure out if you have ADHD.
I'm Dr. Jared DeFife, a psychologist and ADHD therapist making ADHD and mental health videos on TH-cam!
Of course, the purpose of these videos is educational only. They are NOT a substitute for professional advice, diagnosis, or treatment, so always seek the help of a mental health professional or qualified health provider for guidance!

@000Niiochi. at the end of your comment you said “and my soul crushing skin itching is minimal “. What did you mean by that? I ask because for years my midriff body has been itching mercilessly. Drs, dermatologist can’t find cause, I’m on allergy pills, it works,it went away,it’s back again this time just above my décolleté, gonna have to go back and get allergy pills… please answer, thank you.

I have almost 0 hyperactivity, so I feel like I would waste a ton of time and money (and effort and energy, an extremely scarce resource for me) getting evaluated only to be told I don't have ADHD simply because I'm an introvert.

I need help. I think I have ADHD because I always relate to all the “do you have ADHD” videos and tests but I’m scared of telling my parents because, one, that would be a super awkward conversation, and two, what happens if my test comes back negative and my parents and doctor think I’m just doing it for attention 😢

I’m scared that if I don’t have adhd that means I am lazy and incompetent. I have struggled with the symptoms my whole life, but I am not sure how powerful it feels like. I am also scared that if I go for a test and my “symptoms” don’t match up right, he is going to think I wasted his time. I have a family that brushes things off and says it’s something else, so that has given me a fear of *not knowing anything for sure sure* also, I am not *sure sure* but I am *pretty sure* I have social anxiety and that could be countering some adhd symptoms. I have been thinking about adhd for months ever since I saw a “signs you MIGHT have adhd” video. The thoughts are happening all the time, at this point I can’t stop thinking about it. My family gets mad when I talk about it, and I don’t have anyone else to talk to about it. If I find out I don’t have adhd, my family will be mad and that will make me sad, so I don’t tell anyone ever anymore about it. Every time I experience a symptom of adhd, I think about it and my brain doesn’t know what to do..”do I continue doing the symptoms to prove I have it?,oh but that’s cheating, I must stop..but I don’t feel like I want to stop.” I feel like I’m starting to go crazy. Btw I am a teen, so I would need my parents to take me for a test. 😢any advice???? Also you glasses were crooked.. I know I am very late for this video, but hopefully someone sees this comment and can help me, even if they just relate to me.❤

I got diagnosed with ADHD years ago. I could remember several years ago after divorce with my husband which brought me into my disastrous journey on Alcohol and cigarettes. I suffered severe depression and mental disorder. Got diagnosed with ADHD. Not until a friend recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly. 8 years totally clean. Much respect to mother nature the great magic shrooms.

I'm so very happy for you, Psilocybin is absolutely amazing, the way it shows you things, the way it teaches you things. I can not believe our world and our people shows less interest about it's helpfulness to humanity. It's love. The mushrooms heals people by showing the truth, it would be so beneficial for so many people, especially politicians and the rich who have lost their way and every other persons out there.

Hey mates! Can you help with the source? I suffer severe anxiety, panic and depression and I usually take prescription medicine, but they don't always help. Where can I find those psilocybin mushrooms? I'm really interested in treating my mental health without Rxs. I live in Germany don't know much about these. I'm so glad they helped you. I can't wait to get them too. Really need a reliable source 🙏

Mushrooms are very medicinal. This is why anybody familiar with psilocybin and any other kind of fungi will tell you, "They are alive." They have a very ancient wisdom. To my experience, all mushrooms have always said, "Pay attention to your life. How you think, how you feel, and what will you do with the information that you always knew, but now are seeing in this point of view." This is why mushrooms are so respected in tribal cultures. This mental health treatment works for me too. Half micro doses do the trick for me. At least a few days at a time with lengthy time in between. Never addictive. Thank you for sharing this point!

When he mentioned time, my memories snapped into place. I have a TREMENDOUSLY huge problem with starting tasks I don't look forward to. Tis ranges anywhere from allowing the anxiety to block out the task, or bargaining with myself to start.

I am positive after reading Dr Daniel Amon book that both my husband and son are ADHD. I recently got my son diagnosed and have him set up for further testing so I can do my best to help him get through life the best he can. I really hope to give him lifelong skills.

I've never been diagnosed and as a kid I didn't struggle much with my studies. I did have some issue remembering stuff but I was always good in maths and somewhat okay in other subjects. Cut to my college years, I strugged so much to focus on any of my course work that I ended up failing one of my papers. This shook me as I have never failed in any classes. My Masters rather went smoother than my Bachelors. Now I'm a fresher in the working phase, and I'm struggling more than I've ever had to! I can't focus on one thing, I am constantly stressed and tired at the same time. I can't sleep properly, it is taking me 3-4hours to read an agreement! I don't even know what I am doing at this point. I can't read, I can't write, I'm frustrated as hell and I desperately need a job but my body and mind doesn't permit it. My mom has been telling me to seek professional help for quite some time now, but I have been putting it off and I don't even know why. It just feels so overwhelming. Everything feels like that and I hardly feel any joy anymore. Also three of my only escapes has always been sleep, food and watching movies/series. But with all this stress I can hardly sleep. I've always loved food but have also been very picky about it, to the point where I would rather starve than have the food that I don't like. And I can't focus enough to watch anything anymore. I think it's time to get evaluated, isn't it? (As of today, I'm 26 now, I am unemployed even though it's been almost 2 years I finshed my education and it took me almost 30mins to write this comment :)

Turns out I'm dyscalculic, and not ADHD - with subclinical hyperactivity. It's not hard to cope with, but academically one has to use genuine discipline to get through any symbolic logic. Too bad. I'd have been interested in some STEM, but I'm happy enough with humanities.

Just stumbled with this video, well, actually, i looked for it, watched it all but near the end i got dsitracted with the comments and didnt pay attention qmq But mow for real, i been doubting and thinking if i have adhd for 3 years, my parents dont know anything, scared to be wrong, they would kill me if they knew i even thought of it, espe ially my mom, not wxactly my dad, since he is the only one that seems to care aboit my mental health I . . . Need to get tested, and im scared that i might not have anything, scared thst i just happen to be like this, i feel so dumb and stupid, i really . . . Need to know, i just need to figure how and when I used to have a therapist, i told her about me and she told me thst i should try to get tested just in case of anything (not adhd, she wasnt specific), i think she thinks i got adhd, or not, or maybe she wants me to take away the guilt thst i got, i dunno, ill see if i can figure something out
