Ford Falcon BF front suspension removal and shock adjustment
มุมมอง 4.8K6 หลายเดือนก่อน
In this video I remove my front suspension on my BF Ford Falcon to change the top strut mounts and adjust the suspension. The reason for this is that I have been having issues with the front right suspension and I thought now was the time to fix it up. When I go over a dip in the road the front right wheel scrubs on the guard and really not sure why this happens. I'm not sure if that was due to...

Ford Falcon - fixing the water leak from the boot spoiler
Do ya need a special tool for the arm rest or just a Phillips head screw driver
From memory it’s either a Phillips head or a torx bit. There is a plastic cover that needs to be removed. This can be done with a small flat head screwdriver
Telling us verbally what bolts to remove while shooting vid from the outside and not showing us is fuckin silly
Sorry mate, this was on of my earlier videos. If you watch the whole thing I do show where all the bolts are. I’ve made sure my later videos have better detail
I got the same problem I changed the spark plugs and the coils and the fuel filter and the oil sensor and clean the throttle body and use a fuel injection system cleaner and removed the air filter then installed a new one i got a small leak from the muffler so I thought it could be the problem so I installed a straight pipe and still I got rough idle when stopped and on drive and it’s going with me for the last 20k so I will try what you did if it works I’ll edit my comment
Fingers crossed once you check the inlet manifold gasket it fixes your issues 🤞
thanks mate very helpful
Have older US market version. It's a shame nobody makes decent engine mounts for these that last. Even the Ford OEM ones have only gotten me almost exactly 45k miles each for the last 2 hydraulic mounts I've replaced.
You only got 45k miles, they really haven't lasted. For smaller motor that is not exactly powerful you'd expect them to last a long time.
Thanks so simple to follow
Thank you 🙏
The battery you'll need for this is a CR2025
if your idle is missing at a consistent rate you can tap the top of throttle body with your knukles continiously if more or all cylinders fire it is most likely gunk on your tmap sensor or problem with tmap sensor/wireing (pretty much maf sensor).
Good to know, thanks for the tip!
3 bends on cars with bigger factory wheels I think so normally XR’s
Thanks for that! Makes sense now
Belimya dimana
I found them online, just check for fitment
What size shifter do you use to get remove the bolts from the terminals?
From memory it’s a 10mm
the only thing wrong with this video is you didnt come and do it for me :)
@@BushKayakersCampingAustralia 😂😂😂
I had the same problem on a 2012 S60. Checked my fuse but it wasn't the problem... Opened the control module it was exactly the same as yours, liquid had shorted the circuit, after cleaning with alcohol and putting it back together it worked perfectly. You saved me! Thanks alot man
That’s a great result!
What if you don’t know what gear you were in when it popped off
I can't remember the location, however try moving the shifter manually one way all to the end. Then try and start the car. If it starts it should be in park, if not then it will probably be in drive. I hope that helps
Also can you replace that metal clip funny looking washer thing I done have one
Ok thanks for letting me know. I just straightened it and popped it back on.
Hey man I need help how long it meant take to bleed the clutch I’m having issues on my mk2 ba sedan t5
To my knowledge it takes a while since only a small volume of fluid is pumped out of the CSC. I disconnected the hose from the reservoir, put a bleeding syringe attached to some clear tube down and tightened a hose clamp around it to attempt to pull a vacuum and extract any air that might have been trapped in the master cylinder. Then bleed the CSC as per normal procedure.
I bleed it until the new liquid came through the line. And there were no more bubbles. After that a few pushed on the clutch peddle and it all came back to me.
Thank you for help
You’re welcome!
Thanks mate..
Man you placed your head and arm under the door with no stunts fitted . If that timber falls down we would have seen you head roll across the Worksop floor. Do you realise how much force is present without the stunts fitted ?
I can assure you that it wasn't moving from that position. It did feel pretty solid when I put it in there and made sure it just wouldn't move.
Great work! I was thinking on doing something similar with a cotter
Using a cotter is a good idea as well.
I’ve replaced my battery in my XR6 2013 now it harms and heater fan goes when everything is off, is there a way I can fix it without taking it to a auto electrician
Have you tried plugging in a diagnostic tool? I wonder if it is just a coincidence that it started after the battery was replaced. You could always try unplug the battery, wait a few mins the reconnect to see if the same thing still happens. Good luck!
@@modaufygarage yeah done that for a few days, for a week it was algood, then I used it for work then it started doing the same thing again
@@jeffersonneeson1535 maybe next time it's running, try and move some wiring looms around and see if anything changes. You might be able to pin point it that way.
@@modaufygarage thanks
Good tip not to touch the bulb when taking out of the packet
Thanks
Where did you buy the replacement lanyard at? Is this some universal one?
@@theorysbox I found a seller on eBay that was 3D printing the Subaru ones. It was a perfect fit.
@@modaufygarage Thank you sir!
I can hear air sucking in at cylinder 1 right where the intake manifold meets the head, sprayed some aerostart and idle dropped, I've got high idle, and fuel economy is getting worse, I guess the gasket is cactus.
It sounds like you’ll need to replace the gasket.
Thanks for the extra tips like having rags handy….clean working
Why the direction of the strut is upside down ? Shouldn't it be flipped ?
The ones I removed were the factory ones, so I just made sure I put the new ones in the same direction.
Do u know what the torque is for the last 2 bolts you installed holding the calliper on to the calliper bracket cheers
Not sure what they are. I have seen numbers for the sliding pin bolts to be 27nm or thereabouts. Basically I did them up then that little bit extra. Just do not try and over tighten them.
@@modaufygarage cheers thankyou so much 👍👍
What brand were the aftermarket top mounts that had slightly bigger bolt holes?
Mackay rubber
LOL did you expect a notification on your dash to tell you your struts were worn?
😂that would be good if it did, maintenance at the click of a button
I have a rough idle when stopped (brake pressed, in drive), my rpms are stable, but my car just vibrates a lot. I have put new spark plugs, checked coils, did smoke test, changed one leaking fuel injector (that I thought was leaking) and its orings. I still get rough idle and my long term fuel trim is -25% in Park, and -12.5% when in drive and stopped. I am guessing my fuel injectors are not spraying properly or leaking. Will have to change those.
That seems like a weird problem. have you tested the intake manifold gasket?
@@modaufygarage Hi, thanx for your quick reply. I did a smoke test and found smoke emanating only from one fuel injector to head interface, so i'd hope it should smoke thru the intake mani. gasket as well if it were leaking. Also, I dont think I would be getting consistent (not sure why they are so exact) negative fuel trims if I had an air leak. The o2 sensor seems to be working ( I put in a new one, but car was vibrating even with the old one), the fuel trims do fluctuate and my short term fuel trim is good, always b/w -5/5%.
@@AH-ky7xb hello did you end up fixing mine is same
@@happymanasfksubaru2846 hi, missed your msg, I narrowed my issue down to a slightly burned valve in cyl1.
Hats off to you sir... lovely tutorial Very clear and concise

Thanks for the video. Huge help. Torque specs according to hynes manual is 90Nm and 56Nm. I installed a non ford top engine mound and had to grind off 3mm on the engine side to make it fit. Just incase anyone has the same problem.
You’re welcome. Awesome! Thanks for the torque specs. That’s weird that your had to grind off 3mm for a ‘replacement’ part. I recently did the front suspension on my falcon and the top strut mount didn’t even fit, so I reverted back to the originals.
good video
Thanks for the feedback! 😊

thanks bro going through the same your vid was a good refresher as i only done this on commodores and they have that other type of spring shock mount and to be honest it looks simpler but i got the ford now with the top hat and new shock i going to try to use the car to decompress and compress the spring as my spring compressors went for a walk. Also you look similar to the Fifi aka Jeff Pustil off LEXX tv show, but your voice is different. sawfilms.fandom.com/wiki/Jeff_Pustil anyway thanks bro for the help i subbed as its hard to find good help.
Awesome video. Helped a lot. Thanks heaps for posting.
sweet appreciate the video mate gonna do this tonight. been looking online for a replacement but no where seems to sell them 👌
These cars are getting older now so much parts might get harder to find.
Would also like to comment my Ford is faulty as it can bearly get over 200 kp/h on the Eastern, injector issue prehaps?
@@JohnBradley-y9y I hope that’s on a race track 😂 have you done a diagnostic scan?
@@modaufygarage it is diappointing as speedo reads 240km/h. Will get only. The world has gone soft on us, a soft man if no longer hard
Heavy duty side steps can handle more mud 😂

No you don't replace the whole cover just the gaskets n seals
It was a case of brain and mouth not working together 😂😂 thanks
THANKS!
But what about the oil? Do u fil it up? Wont hure the the gear?
I checked the gearbox oil afterwards and it all seems fine. Not much came out of the radiator.
Any chance of the poor mans FG ute install
I don’t have an FG but if I did and it was leaking I’d do a video for you
@@modaufygarage No worries we need to keep these beasts on the road otherwise these younger mob will be weak and bleak. I will nominate you for Aussie Story thanks
@@JohnBradley-y9y we most definitely do need to keep them on the road.
can you share the code number for the aircon belt? is it 5PK 705?
Sorry, I didn't write the part numbers down when I did this and I went to the auto parts store to get them. I looked up the part for this model focus and the gates part no seems to be 5PK705SF. I think the 5 refers to how many lines there are in the belt which should match up to the harmonic balancer. I hope that helps
Under the 15mm bolts on caliper sonnuch easier and yeah undo a sway bar link bolt each sode that was there no resistance pulling it up when your trying to pull the lower control arm downskie
It was so much easier just getting the sway bar out of the way.
What had air gaps?
Do you know what time on the video I mentioned that?
I remember now. The original ford rubber in the top strut mount wasn’t a solid unit. There were what seemed like air gaps in the rubber. The aftermarket rubbers are a solid unit. I forgot to compare them in the video.
Could be the reason why reverse isn’t engaging? It’s driving properly. Garage wants me to replace the gearbox and it’s very expensive
Have a look and check to make sure your cable is connected properly.
