@@theuvcrew2531 OK so you don't actually have that many other options. As for mainland European market XTZ 12.17 Edge is a good value for money subwoofer. Yes the amp is much more powerful than the HTS12, and in my testing the XTZ 12.17 Edge was easily able to go to 18Hz witch Polk HTS12 just wouldn't be able to do. Being able to go lower just by 2dB takes a lot more power, don't underestimate that. Additionally with two ports you can adjust the XTZ 12.17 to your liking and it can make a big difference. Between the two my recommendation would be XTZ 12.17 edge.

@mariusm5187 Thank you for the detailed notes. Much appreciated. I have the HTS12, and can agree that the output below 30hz is negligible. So the output at 18hz on the XTZ sounds very promising. I was originally looking to get the Arendal 1963 1V, but they don't have the Black anymore. Other options were the Monoprice Monolith 12 Ultra, and Definitive Technology Descend DN12, but both are considerably more expensive (30-40% more).

Yes I'm still using Auro 3D up mixing, I use movie settings but only at 80% and yes I do hear a difference, at full strength it's a bit too intense.

I recently upgraded to 7.2.6 with front and rear heights and added a Top-Middle pair. I use Auro3D as my default upmixer when something doesnt have Atmos or DTS:X soundtrack. I have personally settled on a Strength setting of 12 and the Movie setting. Movie seems to be about halfway in between Medium and Large in reverb/spaciousness. It also seems to add just a bit more with the surround channels where the Speech preset seems to dial back on the surround channels a bit. One of these days I'll check it with an RTA to see what its doing.

In your case I would go with Klipsch because they have more options to pick from and a wider range of speakers for all kinds of requirements. When creating a good setup you need to have options that will fit your needs best and from my point of view Q Acoustics is a bit too limited

Hi, firmware updates are a normal process and it's safe to do, they are definitely useful as they do often fix many issues and add me features and improve the stability. Most don't need more than 10 minutes to complete so they are fairly quick. As for losing power per during upgrade I'm not really sure I've never seen that happen. But it's definitely normal thing to do and I would suggest to keep your firmware up to date

Apologies for the long delay, I just wasn't expecting things to take so long. It was really sad to see that 1961 are being discontinued as I find them amazing value for money and size. I'm really glad to hear that you are enjoying your speakers

Monolith plus will look better and should be slightly more powerful but SVS will have more features and be much more modern. If you don't mind a basic black box SVS would be my recommendation

Hi, no not all Denon receiver's have the same menu. On the _800H series Denon updated the user interface. Sadly I have not used the new interface, you are going to bed to read their manual to find those settings.

If you're running heights, it would be best to set them as heights in the receiver. Depends on your receiver, but there should be a setting to adjust the upmixing strength

Thank you. Sadly SR6015 doesn't support Auro3D, you would need a different receiver. Most of their new receivers do support Auro3D

It could be due to variety of things, which QA 3000 speakers do you have? How are they setup? What subwoofer are you using? Did you run calibration? What crossovers are you using? Each of these can have a big impact on sound

@@mariusm5187thanks for your prompt response, I've q3050i & q3090i speakers, earlier I had a basic pioneer vxs351 5.1ch avr with taga harmony tav506 speakers it was a perfect match I was tempted with Dolby Atmos went with Yamaha rx V6 coz I wanted something good for both movie & music I felt the taga speakers were under Powerd for Yamaha hence wanted to upgrade the speakers to 3050i again considering for both movie & music, I've tried with multiple point calibration it sounded different, someone suggested to try with out calibration it did work kind of ok but not that great finaly I've done single point calibration it sounds better to my ears in comparison with the other settings i tried, but the bass is not tight and right for the music and movies. I think the precision is what I'm missing here, some one side it could be the AVR coz Yamaha sounds good only with a bookshelf speakers not with tower with 5+inch driver not sure if that is true, any tips that would help me? Since you already had 3050i's.

Ok if bass tightness is your issue i am very inclined to believe it's the receiver as Yamaha's YPAO is rather awful at managing low end frequencies, I've seen this happen on a few systems with Yamaha and Pioneer systems. Sadly the only way to confirm this to use REW and microphone such as UMIK-1 but that's a rabbit hole I would suggest to avoid (it can consume your life). Are you running your 3050's ported or plugged?

@@mariusm5187 currently running portend, I've tried plugged as well but it didn't sound good, also tried several placement from the wall for the best result, it is the AVR i believe, is Denon sounds good with q3050i? I'm thinking of getting an Marantz pm6007 an integrated amp for music and then try using them as a power amp for my LR channel from Yamaha, not sure if that will work?

When you tried with the ports plugged did you re-run the calibration? For such changes you would need to run the calibration again. I find Denon's/Marantz Audyssey much better than the competition. It might be worth just trialing a Denon ARV to see if this helps

Yeah I would agree, with native content Atmos is going to be more accurate. For me the natural sounds more appealing than accurate but a lot of it is down to ones personal preference

He said in the video this demo is best case scenario and movies often are worse. Did you miss this bit? If you understand how we listen we don't hear an object like the red light or say a bird from just the location of the bird, we hear it naturally reflecting throughout the environment and our brain process the direct and indirect sounds in nature. The upmixer was tested and designed based on how music normally is received in a concert hall and that background of understanding how music is received was studied and added to the upmixer. Regardless of all that, you will see so many people just like this guy try auro3d and preferring it. I have no agenda, I don't care, I just push a button on the avr, dolby, dtsx, auro, I just choose the one that sound like a natural bubble of sound around me. I don't even want to bring up how good the VOG speaker is in auro, (voice of god) that is placed at the highest most 3rd level above the floor, then heights, and the vog is a speaker directly above you that is amazing, for me.

Playing ATMOS with Auto 3d is a terrible idea

@@mariusm5187 It is the Marantz SR8015 11 channel AVR. I have a large room, with hiigh ceilings and could easily mount 6 height speakers. Since my couch is against the wall and I cannot do 7.1 (unfortunately), it would be great to utilize those 11 channels, but on the ceiling. Front wides are another option, but they are underutillized in most mixes. Thanks!

Hi, as far as I am aware S760H does not support Auro3D as you would need 4 height speakers. That said Auro 3D now is supported with only 2 height speakers but I am not sure which new Denon receivers would have that.

Thank you. I have sold my monolith and currently got a 4 subwoofer setup which I will be doing a video on at some point. I did previously own a XXLS400 as well and did like the sound of it but the power for the room was lacking. Adding a second one would help if you have any nulls in your seating position but you will only know if you can measure and map it. I used REW and UMIK-1 to do that. With 4 subs I have 0 nulls across all of my seats which is really nice.

I would say I prefer Arendal but the difference in sound between them and Q Acoustics is not huge. If you want to save money Q Acoustics is a great choice

Hi, good question. Sadly I don't have any experience with either of those 2. 3030i option would be rather expensive as you would need to buy a pair of speakers and only use 1. From the specs 3090Ci is only a minor improvement, I don't think you would notice it if you were to upgrade to it.

Yes, my opinion has since changed a bit. Mainly on applying a curtain on frequencies above 400Hz really helps the speakers to shine. Audyssey on the Denon was way too aggressive and really neutered the speakers. I do plan to make a mode detailed video explaining it all

Looking at either the monitors or the bookies myself with my yammy a8 just not sure if the monitors would be to much in a small room, although I do like your comments about the headroom if needed. The bass is pretty controlled right? I mean I know there's bungs but just don't want to overdo it. And you've also got me thinking that maybe when the time comes I'd be able to use the 1961 surrounds, cos those 1723's do look pretty massive lol. Looking forward to your follow up.👍

@@slyfoxx8540 the 1723S are really capable, heck the 1961 surprised me how powerful they are. If you got a smaller room I think the 1723 bookshelves would be great. Just keep in mind 1723 bookshelves will be bigger than other brand's full on monitors

@@mariusm5187 yeah have been reading up on everything I can, I'm just not sure if the dynamics would be the same as the monitors. Although will be ordering a 1s sub to go with it which will probably help, and arendal themselves advised me on getting the bookies. Glad to hear the 1961's will do for surrounds though that will help. Choices choices lol. Gonna be ordering in a couple of days and still not made up my mind.

I do understand the position you are in. With the sub the speakers won't be needing to work that hard at all as the heavy lifting still be taken care of the sub. Good luck with your purchase, but I can confidently say which ever option you end up going with I don't think you'll be disappointed

I agree. Dolby Atmos when done right is brilliant, sadly were few movies have fully utilized Atmos tracks :(

It's very sad that there is not many auro 3-D movies, but the good part is that you can upmix atmos to auro 3-D that don't have a good atmos sound out like they're supposed to have.

Yeah, Auro 3D strength is definitely in it's upmix any content you throw at it

The main idea is to use the auro3D upmixer, it's very good.

It can a bit frustrating and Denon really didn't make things clear. It appears on the newer receivers they are relaxing the rules a bit for both formats which might things simpler in the future.

Use the green button labeled movie on the remote to switch sound modes.

The buttons at the bottom of your remote with Music, Movie would allow you to change the settings. BUT you will need to have the correct configuration in the receiver to allow Auro3D to show up as an option

Yes definitely, the Monoprice THX series Monoprice 365C and 365T would be a great option and lesser of a cost. When I wanted to buy the speakers they were out of stock for months which influenced additionally to get Arendal

You could use in-ceiling and set them up and height speakers but I am not sure if the effect will be as good. If you have a newer denon they have two profiles that can be stored in the receiver which should make testing easier

I'm not sure if they still make subs for REL, but they definitely did at one point in time.

@@jamescollins6085 in fact I do have experience with XXLS400 because I owned one and I really loved it. Yes it was really great for music but it does just as well for movies. One of my favourite sealed subwoofers. My only issue with it was the fact that it was too small for my space

Sadly there isn't much at the moment but they seems to be signing new deals and doing even live streaming of TV in Japan through Auro3D. For me what's currently the best is the upmixing which works really well on any source content
