I love to seek out travel places and roadside attractions in America. I'm also an American history buff and do my best to incorporate that love of history into my videos. I visit roadside attractions, museums, nature preserves and places of historical significance, visiting places around Chicago's north suburbs, Chicago's west suburbs and downtown, with plans to travel the rest of this great country through this TH-cam journey.

1930s Era Train Station in Villa Park, IL / Ovaltine's Former Headquarters / Villa Park History
มุมมอง 304ปีที่แล้ว
I recently visited a vintage train station built in 1929 that has since been converted into a museum. Located in Villa Park, Illinois, the museum covers the history of the station, as well as the town's connection to Ovaltine as the station sits just down the street from the company's former corporate headquarters. มุมมอง 216ปีที่แล้ว
The Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) helped pave the way for the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Today, I visited the GAR Military Museum in Aurora, Illinois, which once served as a gathering spot for Civil War veterans. It is now on the National Register of Historic Places, serving as a museum in remembrance of their honor. Help me grow the channel, support me on: Facebook: rb.gy...
Smoky Mountain National Park's Highest Point / Clingmans Dome, an Observation Deck in the Clouds
มุมมอง 167ปีที่แล้ว
Towering at 6,643 feet, Clingmans Dome is the highest point in Great Smoky Mountain National Park. The observation tower offers a spectacular 360° view of Tennessee's and North Carolina's Smokies. Visitors must climb a .5 mile hike on a paved trail to reach the tower. The good news is, temperatures are sometimes 10-20 cooler than the surrounding areas and that was certainly the case the day I f...
Strange Happenings at Ripley’s Believe it or Not - Gatlinburg / Hogwarts Made of Matchsticks & More!
มุมมอง 170ปีที่แล้ว
A Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry made of matchsticks, shrunken heads, celebrity portraits made of everyday materials, and the obligatory Robert Wadlow statue. A trip to Ripley's Believe it or Not is never boring and that was true of the Gatlinburg, Tennessee location during my recent visit. This is always a strange, unusual, but unique experience all at the same time and I hope you ...
Amazing Dukes of Hazzard-Themed Museum in Pigeon Forge / TV Show Relics, General Lee and other Props
มุมมอง 484ปีที่แล้ว
My favorite TV show growing up was the Dukes of Hazzard, which ran on CBS from 1979 to 1985. So when I discovered a Dukes of Hazzard-themed museum on my recent trip to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, I had to stop in. Cooter's Garage, named after the mechanic on the show, is an amazing collection of artifacts and pictures from the TV show, as well as a General Lee on display for the public to sit insi...
The Real, Actual O.J. Simpson Ford Bronco Chased by the LAPD / Alcatraz East Crime Museum

The highlight of the Alcatraz East Crime Museum in Pigeon Forge is the actual O.J. Simpson Ford Bronco that the LAPD chased through the streets of Los Angeles on June 17, 1994. This museum was an amazing collection of artifacts tied to western outlaws, serial killers, white collar criminals, fraudsters and so much more. As part of NASCAR's 75th anniversary celebration, a first-of-its-kind street race will take place July 1-2 in Chicago's Grant Park and the surrounding area. Abraham Lincoln & Stephen Douglas First Debate Site / Man of Steel Filming Location / Roadside Stops

I spent a recent Saturday afternoon just touring various roadside stops between the towns of Aurora and Peru, Illinois. I began with the Wayne’s World Car at Hollywood Casino, followed by the town of Plano, Illinois, which stood in as Smallville in the 2013 movie Man of Steel. Also included were stops at the site of Abraham Lincoln’s and Stephen Douglas’ first debate in Ottawa, Illinois, as wel...

A Tour of Ronald Reagan's Boyhood Home in Dixon, Illinois / Guided Tour of Reagan's Home in 1920
มุมมอง 1.4Kปีที่แล้ว
This week, I pay another visit to Dixon, Illinois and visit the boyhood home of our nation's 39th president Ronald Reagan. This was the home that Reagan shared with his brother Moon and his mom and dad Nelle and Jack when they moved to Dixon in 1920. Reagan and his wife Nancy, along with Moon, visited the home on Reagan's 73rd birthday in 1984 to commemorate its opening to the public for tours....

Great movie. I knew an extra who was in it for like two seconds lol. The ONLY thing I called bullsh*t on was that ''good samaritan" scene. A LADY driver picks up a STRANGER on the street, and at NIGHT no less? I know you're supposed to suspend disbelief in movies, but that was a bit much lol.
It would have been fun to have the cta find car #2224, where he knocks out Sykes. It was brand new then so it's probably still in use.
North Carolina would be interesting!
Grand Detour. Not Dixon. 5 miles almost out of town. As old as Dixon. The plow wasn’t developed in Dixon IL folks, but in Grand Detour
Chicago
You packed a lot of info-nuggets into this piece, Mike-- and ones that clearly needed the assistance of a historical interpreter, as you alluded to. Thanks, you simplified an upcoming trip to Iowa's Field of Dreams in Dyersville ~!
Cool and helpful. Thank you !
To much talking and not enough eating.
Fun fact-auggie busch (as in the beer family, and long time cardinals owner) ran harry caray out of town because harry was sleeping with his wife!
great pizza but very BAD REVIEW!
Great video. I'll subscribe for more. Very interesting
2024 Portillo's is Soon Coming with 4 Locations in Houston Metro Area. YEA! I was Made in Chicago, IL. (southside)
Thanks for this interesting video! It really makes me so curious to think about someone living in the very space where her room had been when it was the Bellevue place. Also many thanks for your compassion towards her, and I agree she needed more. As a mother, I could not imagine. 💔
The best part of Gene and Jude’s that it is next door to a Tiki bar. I had a couple of tiki drinks and walked next door for some hot dogs. The perfect way to end the night.
One reason you do cash only us because you have a cash machine you make money on. One day I'll get down there 👍
Why nobody go to the 79th and euclid location 🤣🤣
Is there a connection between this Pontiac museum and the new Pontiac museum in Pontiac, Michigan?
I’d be curious about taking the just fugitive movie tour in November. That’s when I’m gonna be there. And any other movie trivia that you might know that I don’t realize. I’m a big Movie guy and I know almost nothing about Chicago. I’m gonna be there mid November.
How about doing a video on Meadowdale Raceway👍
Its not open anymore thanks to the state of Illinois and the city Of Dixon Wont spend any money to keep the place up and running.
Cool vid! I'm in Elgin. Cheers
Will check out the animal cookies. Good selection of merch.
Wheres ritas house
Dixon, Illinois
Grew up with that pizza, still get it every summer when i'am back visiting family, best in Ashburn, if not the whole southwest side! My grandparents lived a block away..
I lived in Cedar Rapids from 1987-1993 (age 9 to 15). I recently went back about three weeks ago for the first time in 30 years to visit the homes that my Mom and I lived in during that time period. It's incredible how much has changed, but it was a wonderful time to reconnect to such a monumental part of my childhood. But the shell that is now Westdale Mall; yeah that one hurt lol Funny how you mentioned listening to old 80's tunes while you were there. I did the exact same thing lmao. Great video :)
Over an hour way? You don't say. I fly to Chicago from Columbus just to eat pizza and beef sandwiches.
As a lifelong car nut, this video was something that I really enjoyed. If I ever get in the area I will definitely visit this museum.
Good one
Hi. 14:00 - You got the hospital (interior) wrong. ALL the interiors were built in a closed Chicago Public School in either Woodlawn or Pullman - utilized for various other office scenes. I was 19 then, and a extra, and I'm looking all over for the exact location, can't find it. It was used as a School again 2 years later for this Sidney Poiter TV film "To Sir With Love II". Maybe some other 90s films too. Been Curious what they did with the school. Don't live in Chicago anymore, but totally miss 10% of it.
👟👟 Greetings 🤭
Harrison Ford was great in this one. I've watched this multiple times on VHS as a child.
I been to Chicago, tremendous city.
Are all 4 of those w w 2 fighters fiberglass ?
I've never seen the movie before but I enjoyed seeing bits of Chicago again through your vicarious film journey, as I went on holiday there in 2015. So thank you!
i was there when it first reopened.. the parade was beautiful
Very cool, he was a horrible president though. Very incompetent & unfit. His father was the complete opposite.
Excellent, thank you!
That's so cool, my second favorite movie of all time!
I’m here on a work trip but I don’t have time to see it because of when it’s open. Thanks for making this. I would have liked to see it. I get the impression in town here that Reagan only spent part of his like here(kind of like biden with Scranton) but they are proud to be the boyhood home of Reagan and it’s a point of pride for a town of 16,000 people. still, I’m glad they are able to preserve this piece of history
If you ever need a place to stay by Cave-in-Rock, Cedar Hill River Cabins are awesome! My family loved staying there and just watching barges so by. It was so relaxing.
Next time you are in Metropolis you should check out Fort Massac. It is really interesting. Southern Illinois has some hidden gems, and even though I've lived here my whole life I'm still finding places to explore.
Thanks for taking us on your adventure! Liked and subscribed! Did a dino eat that fish??
nice video it made me remember what used to be there when i was a kid. 55 years ago
Thank you 😊
I. Feel for you. I would but just cant
