A car guy who thinks he's a DIY mechanic. I love cars and cool stuff but largely have no idea what I'm doing. Thankfully the internet is always nearby to rescue me.
Porsche 911 G50 Transmission Bushing Replacement
Today I replaced my transimission shift control bushings on my 1987 Porsche 911 using a kit made by J West Engineering
www.jwestengineering.com/G50-Bushing-Kit_p_26.html
This took me about 1.5 hours after doing a lot of research on different forums. J West even provided very helpful color instructions with the kit.
I highly recommend this very cheap job ($36) on any old 911. Your shifts will be tighter and buttery smooth in no time.

Will A New Carb Get My CJ7 Running?

Long overdue my CJ7 needs a new carburetor...badly. While we're out it let's address the valve cover and gasket that I've already changed and simplify the vacuum system. Will it run?
So Many Project, So Little Time - Garage Update

When you own four cars well over 100k miles each including two daily drivers you become a slave to them. Fortunately most of today's videos are quick fixes and the 911 is the best running of the bunch.

All that needs is a wet sand. Looks good. Once you do, it will be like a mirror.
Wet sand 1500 2000 3000 panel by panel compound polish out with rotary buffer
Orange peel lots of work to fix that
Need symbols how do I get the letters
You knew ahead of time that anything but perfect was going to be unacceptable so next time just go to a shop that going to charge you the going rate . How are they going to make any money if they spend days making you happy? I really hope that the point of this video wasn’t to stress out Maaco about the $1,200 job they gave you.
Skipped quite a few steps..
The way you caught your own joke😅😂
Wet sand is what it needs then it will shine and take away all that ruffness and orange peel.
It's called ORANGE PEEL they have to color sand it with water and then buff
Poor entitled dude, Noone should have to hold your hand and tell you what everywhere person knows, $1200 won't get you a paint job starting at bare metal and $1200 won't get your car in an oven to cure the paint and then get it cut and buff. We have a saying in TEXAS " God bless his little heart." LOL
Take it to deatiler who knows how to wet sand and buff.If you try to do it you will screw it up.The clear is going to be so thin .Maco dosn't put much on it.
That part you showed was not from a 1999 mercedes e55. They gave you a part from a different brand and model car. You have the 722.6 transmission and the data plug that will always leak at some point, is easy to replace and it looks like a small dixie cup with pin holes on the bottom. Thats not a Mercedes part you showed.
Doing this job for the second time and this video was a perfect refresher and had some tips I didn’t do the first time! Thanks!
@@davidw9095 glad I could help. I searched for a video as well but couldn’t find one. The only thing I missed catching was the unit still in the car as I was pulling it out and putting it back.
@@HacktivistMechanic Job done, bushing wouldn’t go in until I tried your hot water trick. Last time I used a rope through the shifter rod so the zip tie was just as good. Shifter assembly slide right in for me, last time that was a bear and I had to take the coupler apart in the back seat access panel.
I have a Benz with the original paint job and it's exactly the same. Get it waxed
It's maaco......people expect a lot more and that's not happening..... They aren't always careful or consistent. Old theme you get what you pay for.....good ain't cheap and cheap ain't good
Wet sand and buff that shit.
When you buy a car here in Utah , you get the title and a bill of sale , 2 bill of sale , one for you one for the buyer , . Before you sign that bill of sale , you need to do a pre buy inspection, because after that , the bill of sale it’s AS IS , car it’s yours .
Looks great. Orange peel expected if not wet sanded. Maaco offers color wet sand for extra and definitely worth it on Mercedes 040 black. Would have let them keep it another week to finish.
It's "orange peel."
The car needs to be cut and buffed. Wet sand and polish it. I had really good results getting single stage polyurethane from Maaco, but I also sanded, primed and sealed the car myself. Prep is key to any paint job. Cut and buff and it will look way better.
I don't know why you didn't put what year your Porsche is?? 😢
Sorry man it’s not my first video with the 911 but it’s a 1987.
Looks like my 2019 jetta's oem paint. And i love it i might actually go with maaco to change the color
what you expect from maaco? for a $1k ? why would anyone that cared about a car take it to maaco, and the other channel u talking about i also a lop taking a lambo there what a poser
$1200 you got what you paid for
What you have is orange peel. that has nothing to do with the surface. it’s the way they sprayed it, but it can be fixed sanded and polished out as long as there’s enough clear on it. The reason the side panels have it more than the hood is because of gravity. The weight of the paint if you put it on too heavy, will create that I’m with you though I would not have been happy seeing those results.
The texture shows, that it wasn't polished enough.
Looks the same
You get what you pay for kid, lol
Wow! You made the right move by having Concorso detailing provide you with what you were looking for. This Mercedes E55 now looks amazing.
For $1000, this looks good. I would be satisfied with this for that price. As I have said previously, if I wanted my automotive painted to showroom condition, Maaco is not where I would take it. I have personally never had an automotive that I desired to do that with.
Nowhere in the world will you get a down to the metal paint job for $1200.
If it sounds too good to be true…
finna be alot of lines
Why not use wrap instead
Cuz wraps are more expensive and they are not easy to install u need to be patient when installing them or you'll fuck up
I’m far from a professional and f’d up the plastidip enough I don’t think I would do so hot on the vinyl wrap but maybe worth a shot. Certainly would be less prep work.
wasting all that time for some goofy as* sh*t feel bad if you got a lady lmaoooo 😂
Ain't even gone lie I thought you was putting ads all over your car for a sec lol😂
I thought it was a score board of all the things he hit
Amazing results
Lovely cars these SLKs: reliable, very quick off the mark and not expensive to run - brilliant cruising cars! Plus they look amazing with the outward McLaren SLR body lines, and the vario convertible roof is a brilliant 'Transformer' type gadget indeed. I have the same 2006 R171 model in black, for 4 years now as my daily driver with 85k on the clock. Best car I've owned, honestly - I'm smitten with it (then again, I'm easy to please and tend to be more of a cyclist - enjoying 2 wheels more than 4). BUT for a car, its a real head turner. I think along with the SLK 55AMG, the R171 SLK are the best looking of the SLK & SLC models made. Then, that's just my silly opinion.
It's not too bad but not worth that price.
Wet sand with 2000 then 3000 then 5000 and polish the shit out of it after
Needs to 1500 wet and buff.
It’s very cheap to repair a w163 the engine and trans is nice
You gotta wet sand that whole car (minus the hood) bro, wet sand , buff, and some good ‘Ol fashioned elbow grease!!!
Damn.. you ask for eggshell?
That's called orange peel. Painter and preps fault.
ah yes the famous Mako orange peel
This car was done At a Maaco Facility in Addison, Texas but i can tell by the Video but location is closed down for good now.
Asking a lot for 1000 or 1200 for some orange peal, Looks good. I know I will give them a chance for that Money, maybe the 2500 dollar upgrade.
You could get that looking perfect for a few hours of your time and some sandpaper.
I don’t know where you took your car , I have little 2013 Mercedes GLK 350 and Macco estimated $3,000 to paint it …
