EXR's Pokémon Z - Announcement Video
Project Shutan started as a side-project for the main EXR team, in which we were going to work on a "what if"-style Z hack using the tools currently available at the time (around mid 2021). It wasn't looking good. The project wasn't scrapped, but postponed pretty much indefinitely just because there was no real benefit to working on it. Anyone could do what we were doing.
Then myself and Sina crossed paths, somehow. We both wanted a Z hack, and both wanted Gen 6 hacking to be revitalised after seeing the state it was in - so we set out and started a research team.
That's when Project Shutan really started to solidify its two main goals:
- Revitalise Gen 6 ROM Hacking
and the newly revealed one...
- Make what Pokémon Z could have been.
We're still very much in the pre-production process of EXR's Z (as it will be called, to avoid legal issues), and our focus right now is research so that we can expose as much of the game as possible to modding.
The next step is making a wiki with all of our current research (it's a lot), although we can't currently give a solid date for when to expect this.
We're really excited to share this with you today. It really marks the next step in ROM Hacking for the 3DS games - there hasn't been a project like this ever. We're looking forward to sharing more on EXR's Z as we develop demos for our tools, as these demos will be teasers towards things that we're working on for the main game! 👀

it is still being developed, there's just some stuff behind the scenes to make the rom hack work. once project shutan is complete, Z can start concrete development. until then, we're in the planning stage.

I guess this project was dead on arrival. Either that or they're just very private in their dev time. Either way if this is dead hopefully one day someone will make a Z 3ds rom hack. One day.
It’s not dead? We just haven’t got far enough to show anything worth showing yet. It’s also worth mentioning our main focus right now is developing tools so that this hack AS WELL AS other people’s 3DS hacks in the future can be made. When things can be shown, we’ll show it. I did this on Citra, followed all the steps, and still got the vanilla loading screen for Extreme Alpha Sapphire.

I really hope that the pokemon alpha Sapphire extreme randomizer recreation will be available on 3ds systems when it's finished I've been hoping to be able to play it soon if it does, aside from that the exr podcast is interesting to me as well and congratulations on being the developers for tyranitartube's divine diamond extreme randomizer!

there are no title ids in my titles folder, and when i opened luma the first time there was never a titles folder to begin with, what should i do?

I have tried doing this with alpha sapphire but for the mods, I couldn't distinguish the games i have on there. could any one help me.
Thank you for your tutorial. Was doing everything that you can find on guidelines for ROMFS but the only thing that I had never read was that you needed to Enable Game Patching from LUMA. That is vital. Once done, I got the game patched. Had been trying to fix my issue for hours.

When I open the luma folder on my 3DS sd card, the “titles” folder isn’t there. Can you help?
