Plant Hunting, Legendary Botanists, & Foraging in Florida
Florida is a hot spot for plant biodiversity. There are so many unique habitats - my favorite being the bogs with carnivorous plants!! Our recent trip to the Gulf Coast had us exploring these different habitats and botanizing with local expert, Bob Farley. We found some amazing plants, including the endangered pine lily (Lilium catesbaei). We also discovered that we are in possession of a rare book written by the famous botanist Caroline Dormon!
We couldn't go to the coast and not pick some wild ingredients, so we also made a day of foraging to pick some salty succulents, false rosemary, and yaupon holly for making tea.
Plant hunting locations included the St. Joseph Bay Buffer Preserve, the Apalachicola National Forest, and St. George Island.
Key Plants & People:
- Callicarpa americana
- Carfefferous paniculata
- Conradina canescens
- Drosera spp.
- Ilex vomitoria
- Lilium catesbaei
- Pleea tenuifolia
- Polygala spp.
- Rhexia alifanus
- Salicornia sp.
- Sarracenia spp.
- Botanist: Angus K. Gholson, Jr.
- Botanist: Caroline Dormon

Enjoy the ambience of a traditional English cider farm. Visiting Roger Wilkin's operation in Somerset is like stepping back in time. It's as authentic as one can get. No frills or sugary flavors, just proper cider made by generations of Wilkins. The apple orchard is a living, changing creature, and that flux is reflected in every batch of cider, none of which are completely identical. It's the ...

I live in northern MN and absolutely concur with the phrase, “Minnesota is done!” Once a bonafide steadfast Democrat (i.e., DFL) I now find myself without a party because it has totally abandoned the working class in favor of war mongering elites who have literally gone crazy (for e.g., males can get pregnant). The DFL has taxed the citizenry to death and their Marxist-like policies buried them. Meanwhile our Governor, Tampon Timmy Walz, has blown an $18billion FY surplus that prioritized illegal aliens over Minnesota residents. When referring to the June, 2020 Minneapolis riots whereby Black Lives Matter protesters at the very minimum set the 3rd Police Precinct on fire, instead of rapidly deploying the MN National Guard to quell the violence Governor Tampon Timmy’s response was, “Let it burn.” Unfortunately I am now too old and settled to move out of Minnenutzota, however, were I capable I would be 💯 loading the moving truck at O’dark-thirty in the morning and say adios to the Land of 11,842 taxes. 🚫 Aside from my bleak perspective on our state government I must say I do LOVE living in northern MN with its natural splendor. You are to be highly praised for the excellent job you do illustrating the outstanding people and unique opportunities MN affords. Job very well done Ashlyn‼️

So Enbridge MN3 line bought favor with a jacket & hats 😢 08-16.2021 Enbridge spilled drilling fluid 28 times at 12 river crossings this summer, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency announced last week. The news alarmed pipeline opponents - including some lawmakers - who had been demanding information about possible “frac-outs” along the route for weeks. ENBRIDGE refused to disclose what chemicals were used as "trademarked secrets“. The NA tribes demanded that Enbridge Energy clean up the old pipe & contaminated soil, which they still have not done. Enbridge Line 3 covers 337 miles in Minnesota & increased the pipe to 36in. Enbridge gets away with contaminating Minnesota waters & lands.
