I knitted a 1960's Mary Quant Pattern with the Modern EMU Yarn!
In this video I show you my process for knitting the Mary Quant Cable Sweater that was published in 1966.
The original pattern was a collaboration between Mary Quant and EMU Yarns. The yarn company still exist and I was able to substitute the original EMU DK yarn recommendation with their modern day equivalent that knits to the exact same tension!
Here is a link to the EMU Yarns website for more information:

In this video I talk about hand knitting this sweater from a 1966 knitting pattern using the original Lister Bel Air Starspun yarn. The sweater was knitted on very small needles (as I explain in the video) so it certainly was a labour of love! Also in this video, I show you my preferred methods for sewing together hand knitted fabric that has wide knitted ribs in it. I also do a summary of what...

    Hello, I'm new to your channel and a relatively new TH-camr. Like you I have recently knitted with yarn from Knitting for Olive for the first time. I have knit the Late Summer Wrap, using the merino and silk mohair. When you have done the swatch for your merino and mohair, you might be interested to know that Knitting for Olive do free worldwide shipping on your first order. It is so much cheaper, even when you have paid the tax to purchase direct from them. I really like all of your purchases, I need a trip to London to do a yarn pilgrimage soon! How cute to have your own flock of sheep! I think that will be a really lovely thing to document on your channel

I’m going to be uploading a new video this week about the Knitting for Olive Puff Tee I recently knitted and what I thought of it and how it looks knitted etc 🤗

    What a beautiful knit, Natalie! It suits you perfectly. Thanks so much for showing the construction too, I liked that method of setting the sleeves in. And I also loved the way the collar was knit separately and sewn in - so much easier than picking up stitches to knit the collar in place! Thanks for sharing 😊

    Such a lovely top. Love the older English type of pattern instructions, I'm 65 and learnt this way finding the more modern written very difficult to follow. Love and always do that type of cast on 👍🏼 are you on instagram?

    • @knittingagogo
      @knittingagogo 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for your kind comment 🤗 It was the amazing puff sleeves that really drew me to knitting this gorgeous top. I also really like the instructions you used to get in the vintage patterns since I have spent a lot of my lifetime knitting from these types of patterns rather than modern ones. However, as a Knitwear designer, when writing for knitting magazines, I had to learn to write them in the standard modern way. It’s interesting how knitting a tension Square etc has changed over the years and I wonder what made it change from knitting a square over an inch for example, to then knitting it over 4 inches (or 10cm). My username on Instagram is @knittingagogo 🧶🧶🧶 I’m looking forward to uploading the second part of this video over the next few weeks 😊

    • @oldladyhen
      @oldladyhen 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think it changed from 4 inches in the 70s with cm arriving, and also the arrival of more continental patterns. Also the new kid on the english block ... Rowan became a big trendsetter, with wonderful colours, textures and designer pattern along with other continental 'fancy' yarns and a different way of writing patterns. I wonder if others saw the trend change. 😊⚘️
