Two characters that are aromantic(or maybe demi-romantic?) in my head are Talay from vice versa and kongthap from my love mix up, idk how to explain it honestly😅

CHER 🥰🥰. He is truly my favorite part of Wandee Goodday, and that’s saying a lot considering how much I love the show. Also omg ngl part of the reason I clicked on this video is because of the picture of Nont in the thumbnail and I totally see it. I feel like all of my examples are gonna show my GMMTV bias (I swear I watch shows from other companies 😂) but 1) I loooove Moonlight Chicken for its gay representation, the way it shows Jim’s struggles and how it contrasts with Li Ming, Wen being able to be more open about his sexuality at work and stuff and just the intergenerational aspects of it made me really happy. 2) I don’t know if I would necessarily call it canon, but I definitely came away from Bad Buddy with the feeling that Pat is pansexual (and hey more alliteration there 😂). And 3) ever since I saw this post on tumblr talking about Mix’s character on Cupid’s Last Wish as a trans allegory, I’ve kind of adapted that as a headcanon because it works so well.! www.tumblr.com/wen-kexing-apologist/721975643318910976/trans-allegory-in-cupids-last-wish Oh, and Wedding Plan is another show that feels very gay to me! I like that there’s a BL and GL couple, with Lom and Yiwa being engaged at the start to keep their families off their backs and just, I love the mlm and wlw solidarity and the series ends with two gay weddings, so like come on (okay the second one is in the special episode, but it still counts).

Knock Knock Boys, so far has been an underappreciated gem. I think because it's not from one of the major bl companies, people expected it to be superficial with bad writing, acting, and editing, but so far it's been amazing. I love the depth of characters and how real it can be while staying halarious. Latte is my sweet baby bean and I love him (not a fan of his love interest, though...)

Max from Be My Favorite was a great side character. He was an openly queer person, an activist at his college, and a good friend. He was confident and encouraging when giving advice to Pisaeng and Kawi. However I also liked how he was not perfect. Sometimes these characters can become a fairy godmother who swoops in to solve everything, yet Max made mistakes. Sometimes he pushed his friends into things before his friends were ready for that step. He recognized his journey was not everyone else's, and he apologized after he understood his means, no matter how well intended, were not right at that moment with his friends. Aou's portrayal was energetic and sympathetic, and I think Max is a great example of how to make this kind of supporting character.

Loved this episode! I wanted to recommend some characters. I've been watching this J-drama called Kawareta Otoko and in episode 8, it includes a storyline with a trans character. The drama is basically about 3 male sex workers and there diffrent clients so ep. 8 includes a trans character and it's a really beautiful depiction of acceptance and being able to find love! I hope more ppl can watch it! Also for Ace / aroromantic I always thought the couple in Mr. Unlucky gave me those vibes 👀

Greatly appreciate your in depth discussion of 23.5 😍 you gals touched on pretty much everything that i’d (as an audience) like to hear. P’Fon did confirm that the characters all have corresponding lines in the credits which totally confused me cuz Ton’s is white and orange but he ended up stalking Chaeron wth. Yes the Ongsa conflict with her parents felt forced and came out of nowhere. My take is that in the novel ongsa’s mom is apparently homophobic, so the writers (or whomever) know that we know and we were expecting this storyline to pop up, therefore kinda throwing it in there as a cliffhanger of sorts. Also ongsa is an introvert, she’s already worried abt being out to her friends in school I guess again the writers assumed🙄 that we know she is also afraid to come out to her parents LOL Something that’s kind of related to the opening credits lines thingy is there are some details that I thought showed how much attn was put in this production. For example sun’s outfits, she was wearing a rainbow pj when she noticed her own heartbeat after the lights out stunt Luna did, and “je ne se quoi” Tshirt she wore twice (ep 3 going to school at night, ep 6 when she was at home reconciling ongsa = earth), ep 7 the lipstick almost kiss is a heart pj, and ep 11 a “do this for me” t-shirt when she was talking to her parents abt she and ongsa. Also sun was fiddling with a globe (earth) in ep8 when Kru Bambam talked abt the meteor shower. Anyway just fun to notice these things🙂 Thanks! Greatly enjoyed this! Oh My Sunshine was one of the wildest most off the rails bl's I've laughed my way through. I still say Snow White (the horse) was the mastermind behind it! The friggin apples and the shoe. There absolutely could be a top 5 wildest/most unhinged bl's and I would defend Oh My Sunshine taking #1.

OMG... after watching the heartbroken ep.... I am rewatching this interview again and that Sea's answer to the question what advice to their character : "don't listen to other, believe in yourself".... I didn't know what he is talking about 2 weeks before but now seems there are somehings I could imagine of....

Oof, Boys Over Flowers man. It was my first K-drama, I found it on Netflix in 2010 or 2011. It’s probably one of my favorites but dang is it toxic. Geum Jan Di was put through so much it almost seemed comical. That character was also meant to be this super strong, “ray of sunshine” through her abuse too, which makes me dislike that trope sometimes. Between BOF, Meteor Garden, and F4 I don’t think there was a big difference in terms of what the lead protagonist went through (Jan Di, Shancai, and Gorya respectively), including attempted SA unfortunately. I do think that there was more awareness and penance from the Gu Jun Pyo character as the story kept being adapted. For me, the “turnaround” of the bully character is necessary for stories with a bullying trope. There’s also the older Hana Yori Dango anime, which I remember being good, but was likely the same story, toxicity and all. It has kindof a funny/comical ending too :)

Its been 2 weeks since 23.5 ended and as you guys said yes i’ve fallen inlove with the series and characters. Its sad that it has ended but we’re happy that we got an happy ending and them. 23.5 will have a special place in our hearts and minds that we will never forget ❤

We English speakers have so far been denied the opportunity of seeing the final episode on TH-cam with English subtitles. I can say, though, that, for me, Tor absolutely nailed it as the young Ongsa. I have seldom seen such superb acting. He ran the whole gamut of emotions with aplomb. In fact, he outshone everyone else in the series. He will go far.

Only Boo has truly been one of my biggest joys lately. The actors have put their heart and souls into this series and their talent is very apparent. It's looking to be one of my all time favorite BLs ❤ I wish them nothing but success in the future 🎉

OK I've never read fanfic because knowing my brain, I have been afraid of becoming hyperfixated and losing full nights, weekends or even holidays to it (as I have done with other online content). But I love this conversation for the breadth that it covers, and I realized I've always had an aversion to shipping real people, which is why I find fan service and the resulting delulu so fascinating. I just cannot do it (I also usually only like one person in an onscreen couple as well, so I just take the other one as part of a package). Oddly, the stuff that appealed to me the most in this convo wasn't the continuation of a fictional couple's story, but all the academic & intellectual side quests: footnotes! gentrification! universal basic income! Thai cultural notes! I may just make an AO3 to check out those aspects

I am constantly into the 2nd couples in BLs. A few that I agreed with: Pixie (Kiseki, History3 Trapped -- basically Lin Pei Yu's stuff), Kayla (Tutor Yim b/c I identify w/ Yim's anxious yet fun energy but srsly obsessed with Syn/Nuer), Alexa (Sky/Jao, Dome V, Jab/Jane), Heather (Love Is Science?). I will note that there was a random second couple I adored in a BL ... but it was a het couple: Tiffy & Tum from Lovely Writer but technically they were queer because Tiffy was bi. Anyway, this episode was so fun because I actually do obsess over 2nd couples more so now I have a really long list of recommendations for me to catch up on

It's great that you don't take it for granted, and as a former PR professional, I appreciate all the love given to Lila from Star Struck Media. Thanks for this important discussion. I have worried about how shows treat mental illness as something that can be cured by love or as something that quickly turns into forgiving and forgetting horrible treatment. In a sense we are all victims of our circumstances, but that is all the more reason to treat bad behavior related to mental illness seriously. Those things need to be addressed. Unfortunately our prison system is often poorly equipped to deal with people who need intervention and therapy more than they need to be locked into a small room for most of their days, but that does not mean dangerously harmful behavior should be ignored. Similarly we should try to figure out ways to clearly indicate toxic relationship issues are not likely to be fixed by love alone. Enabling bad behavior in the hopes of "fixing" the other person will often make the situation worse. It is a difficult line to walk, and I think shows like My Beautiful Man could only do it effectively by having a long enough story arc to showcase how much these toxic traits can damage the relationship and people if left unchecked. The Eighth Sense is a favorite of mine precisely because mental health is not cured by love. Having loved ones support you helps but is not a fix by itself. It is a journey. Oftentimes it is a lifelong journey. I would also like to mention how Eternal Yesterday is a great depiction of mourning. Like Make Our Days Count, it shows us how losing a love can be with you your entire life even as everyone else around you seems so capable of moving on. In high school I lost my best friend and crush to suicide, and Eternal Yesterday really helped me grapple with those feelings that remain with me years later. I may never watch that show again, but the depiction is something that remains with me. Hopefully on balance these shows will help others do the same with the problems in their lives.

Thanks for this! I had very mixed feelings about the series overall and wanted to praise its performances & motivations. Obviously a lot of care went into this, and I know the Thai BL entertainment industry is still in its nascent stages, so I don't want to be too critical. That said, since I come from a criticism/journalism background, I always wondered how content creators navigated fandom vs. honest feedback, so I'm glad that there was nuance in this conversation about all the sides. Representation stories are always a moving target. No one is ever going to be 100% satisfied, and I am willing to gloss over a lot. But the series' ending really did disappoint me. Alas and alack.

That the main actors (and often the director) still meet up annually on their own for a night of memories and fun gives you an idea of just how close they became during the making of this absolutely AMAZING series--from 5 YEARS ago now! No matter how many pangs of poignancy, heartache, and even violence there may be (it WAS one of the first Mafia-inspired BL's, after all), it truly somehow inexplicably leaves you with such warmth and a smile on your face. In my opinion, one of the tip top best BL's EVER made.❤👏👏👏👏👏❤

It's also available to watch for free on TH-cam, which is where I watched it. Excellent series -- very well-written, acted, and directed. Easily the best from Taiwan in this genre, and in the top five from any country, for me.
