Handling Error Part 3: When one of your team hides an error.
If one of your team tries to hide an error, it points to low levels of psychological safety and trust. YOU OWN THAT! As the leader of a high performance team, you are responsible for EVERYTHING which affects team performance. Deal with the individual who tried to hide the error with as much empath and sensitivity as possible, but make sure you raise the levels of psychological safety within you...

How you handle error is critical, as it has a disproportionate effect on the levels of trust and psychological safety within your team.
Handling Error Part 1: Team Leader Error.

How you handle errors within your team is critical in establishing trust and psychological safety. Don't f*#k it up!
You can't micromanage a high performance team!
One of the biggest reasons leaders don't delegate enough is that they fear the quality of the outcome won't be up to standard. Two ways we can reduce the variability from our team's excution: 1. By building a strong, aligned culture. This means our team's behaviour is more predictable, as we all are moving in the same direction. 2. By writing standard operating procedures for all routine tasks....
If you are feeling burnt out, delegate!
Why don’t we delegate? Usually because either we don’t trust our team, or we don’t feel they are competent. (These are two different things!) As a leader, we own BOTH of those problems. Always look to increase trust and competence in your team, and delegate more and more so you can concentrate on leading, not small details!

Why you need to use Mission Command...
You probably use Command and Control inside your team. Sound like something only the military would use? Well, command and control involves the boss telling his team what to do, then ensuring they've done it. Sound familiar. Mission Command is a FAR superior way of doing business. It creates highly agile, motivated and creative teams.
If you want a committed and motivated team, give them a family, not a workplace.
If your team members think of the team as their family, they won't leave. If you pay your team well above market rate yet don't facilitate strong social bonds, they will leave. We are all searching for safety and connection inside small groups. This is a deep and fundamental desire which has evolved over millions of years; you can't change this, so work with it.
How to become a fighter pilot…
