Remembering Ricky
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 18 พ.ค. 2020
This channel is dedicated to recalling the music of Rick Nelson and remembering the incalculable contribution he made to early rock and roll, as well as to country-rock.
While they are still allowed, four of the six parts of my radio documentary are posted for you to hear, as they aired on May 8, 1987. UMG has, however, requested that original recordings in Parts 1 and 2 be removed. As a copyright owner, I respect their position. Where available, later rerecordings of the hits have been substituted.
Also available are the exclusive interviews with his brother Dave, John Fogerty, James Burton, Carl Perkins, Jimmie Haskell, Gordon Stoker, Randy Meisner, Johnny Burnette's widow, Thurley, writer and radio personality Judy Markey, and California Country, Rockabilly, Roots singer/musician Ronnie Mack.
This is a celebration of the man called "The Crown Prince of Rock and Roll."
For complete remastered recordings of Rick's music, please visit Ricky Nelson - Topic.

Remembering Ricky - The Music and Memories of Rick Nelson, Part 2 EDITED with substitute recordings
มุมมอง 811ปีที่แล้ว
In 1987, I produced a six-hour radio tribute to the late Rick Nelson. Featuring special guests who knew and loved Rick and his music, the three decade musical career of the man, for whom the term "teen idol" was coined, was explored in depth. Woefully underappreciated by music critics, Rick Nelson was the second highest selling Rock and Roll artist from 1957 through the early 60s. He placed 35 ...

มุมมอง 2.1K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Country, Rockabilly, Roots singer/musician Ronnie Mack is a driving force up and down the West Coast, and as far away as New York City. He hosted the celebrated Barn Dance for years, as well as celebrations of Elvis Presley's birthday and, of course, Rick Nelson's birthday. Judy Markey Remembering Ricky (Interview)
มุมมอง 9782 ปีที่แล้ว
Syndicated writer and radio personality Judy Markey was the first person I put on my list of people to interview about Rick Nelson. On January 1, 1986, Judy's column in the Chicago Sun-Times was devoted to her grief over Rick's death. She had idolized him as a girl and interviewed him as a woman and remained a devoted fan. She was so gracious about sharing her memories and giving the most eloqu...
Thurley Burnette Remembering Ricky (Interview)
มุมมอง 9892 ปีที่แล้ว
There were a few surprises while compiling interviews for "Remembering Ricky The Music and Memories of Rick Nelson," but none more delightful than this one: I called Glen Campbell's office to inquire about interviewing him about his days playing rhythm guitar for Rick. The woman who answered the phone was Thurley Burnette, the widow of Rockabilly great Johnny Burnette, who, along with his broth...

Gordon Stoker was the first tenor of the legendary vocal quartet, The Jordanaires. They provided background vocals for countless popular records between 1951 and 2011, including major hits with Elvis Presley, Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, and Ringo Starr. They are the beautiful voices backing Rick Nelson on "Lonesome Town," as well as dozens of his other records. In this interview from 1987, Gordon...
Randy Meisner Remembering Ricky (Interview)

Randy Meisner is one of the founding members of the Eagles. Before that, however, he was a founding member of another country-rock group, Rick Nelson and the Stone Canyon Band. He toured with them and played on two albums, the groundbreaking "Rick Nelson in Concert" and one of Rick's best albums, "Rudy the Fifth." In this interview, recorded in 1987, Randy recalls the formation of the band and ...
Jimmie Haskell Remembering Ricky (Interview)

The late, great Jimmie Haskell was a renowned composer and arranger, whose award-winning arrangements include "Ode to Billy Joe," "If You Leave Me Now," and "Bridge Over Troubled Water." But, in 1957, he was working for Imperial Records when his boss Lou Chudd put him in charge of overseeing the recordings of his new hot artist, Ricky Nelson. Rick's relationship with Jimmie would last to the en...
John Fogerty Remembering Ricky (Full Interview)

Finding out one has something in common with a musical superstar can be surprising...and rewarding. It turns out that John Fogerty and I share a role model: Rick Nelson. In 1987, John was kind enough to give an interview for my radio special, "Remembering Ricky The Music and Memories of Rick Nelson." The interview was arranged through John's brother Bob. In it, John recalls the impact that Rick...
Carl Perkins Remembering Ricky (Full Interview)
มุมมอง 2.4K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Rick Nelson's boyhood idol was the Rockabilly legend Carl Perkins. Rick said that he heard Carl singing his hit "Blue Suede Shoes" and knew immediately what he wanted to do. On his first album, Ricky covered two Carl Perkins songs. In an interview recorded in 1987 for the radio special "Remembering Ricky The Music and Memories of Rick Nelson," Carl Perkins recalls meeting Rick in 1985, while re...

Remembering Ricky - The Music and Memories of Rick Nelson, Part 3 - The Early Decca Years
‘Lonesome Town’ touched me when I was a kid. He was my favorite singer from when I was very young. He was my childhood idol.
Great interview. Who is the interviewer?
Thank you for this beautiful tribute to Rick. Listening to all six segments for the second time this New Year's Eve.
Rick I could listen to you all day and all nite. You have so much talent and all those good looks you have. How lucky your pretty little wife was to have a sweet guy like you to look at when you got home. I’m sure it was hard on her letting you go on the road and be away from you days at a time. Keep singing with the angels in heaven. Bless you and all your family that’s with you now. Rest good Rick
A true artist that did not short change his audience of any decade never stagnant. Grateful to his family who also. are gifted.and condolences to those who tragically died Our Lord be with you❤
Gifted ❤left a hole in so many genres of the best in music.. Authentic.
What a great interview by a great man about a great man I still play Ricks records every day there will never be anyone else but you R I P RICK
I lived through these times. It’s totally different now. So sad
Always listened to their show...saw David on his circus act. He did very good. Trapeze act,on tv.
Such a talented Family.
Love This/Thanks for posting this.
Enjoyed hearing Randy talk about Rick. Seems they shared some admirable characteristics; humble, considerate men who loved to play music.

Memory lane. Never to be forgotten. I get nostalgic listening to his songs & music.
Sweet voice, charming guy, handsome, talented & loved. We used to have karge posters of him in shops around and in Guyana, South America. Beautiful photos with signatures. ❤
I really wish that Rick and Dean Martin could’ve gotten together for an album. I loved that duet my rifle, my pony and me who knows maybe they are singing together with Glen Campbell playing guitar and Duke Wayne, sitting there listening to them with a big smile on his face.
This was a very nice tribute. Im only 45 and am just discovering Ricky Nelson and Ozzie and Harriet. It was such a sweet and wholesome show and Ricky was almost ethereal in his beauty. Especially in the years between 18 and 30. Ozzie was also very handsome in his day. They had that classic Old Hollywood "Clark Gable" type of handsomeness. Tall with a strong jawline, beautiful eyes and eyelashes and thick hair.
He was unbelievably handsome. It's like everyone knew that but him. He was shy like a nerdy high school kid with thick glasses.. He clearly had no idea how gorgeous he was. It's both a good and bad thing. Do you ever ask anyone that knew him why was he so shy in person?h He seemed so self conscience for some eason.
Ricky had the thickest hair ive ever seen on a man in my life. And the most beautiful long dark eyelashes. She made a good point about women wanting to "mother" him. He had that personality that made a woman want to take care of him.
She should've stayed for the second show..
Both David and Ricky were both unbelievably humble and kind men. Just proves that their parents were truly good people.
I wish families today could be more like this.
Families, back then, were NOT like what one saw on TV...it is called "entertainment", OK?
Fabuloso uno de los mejores cantantes
David looks like Ozzie. Ricky was my favorite ❤❤❤❤
He's awesome
I watched their TV show as a very young girl in the '50's. I always thought that Ricky was a hunk & loved listening to him sing & play guitar. I believe he was the one to motivate my interest in the guitar, which is still a big part of my adulthood today 2024. xoxo
Though I am much more familiar with Rick, it's quite apparent that Dave is one class act😊!!
So glad I found this documentary of Ricky Nelson. I am 71 and still love him to this day. Thank-you
Wow, what a great interview. David was amazing
James Burton was asked an interview who is the best person who played for ever. He said no doubt Elvis Presley.
Underrared.
Great interview, except that the speed slows down somewhere around 18.00, then the speech becomes very laboured and difficult to hear. Hope it can be fixed.
DAvid and his wife June owned a summer house a block down the street from us in Newport Shores, Newport Beach, CA in the mid-60s. Never saw him, but my mom talked to June. I was 11 and knew more about Ricky than him at the time.
I have never seen Ozzie and Harriet show until now, I discover it on Roku - so i’m binged watch it and love that show 😊
Love you, David Nelson. You are just as sweet as when you were a kid. God Bless.
Would be great to make shows that brought out good manners and loving family relationships. Those were good lessons for life!
I STILL LOVE, THE OZZIE AND HARRIET SHOW, I'M 72. IT WAS FUN TO SEE TEENAGE STARS AND SINGERS. REALLY COOL!
Loved all the Nelson 's , also Dave's wife and Kristen...❤
David was an
What a lovely man David is. I am blown away by the kind kind adoring words for Ricky. Boy Ozzie and Harriet should have received an award for Best parents. These two children are testament to being brought up with such lovely values and respect for one another. 😘
IF THE PARENTS BROUGHT UP THEIR KIDS IN A WAY THAT OF BEING GOOD PERSONS, UPRIGHT, GODFEARING, THEY WILL CERTAINLY BE GOOD & HONEST PERSONS WHEN THEY GROW UP.
Thanks for this upload
What is David doing now ?
David was my favorite! I was so in love with him.
Great interview!!!! Thanks for sharing it with us. May GOD bless you and yours.
What absolute gems these two gentlemen were. Honest, polite, good-looking, talented. They will long be remembered and missed.
They were both so sweet and nice. Never acted pretentious.

A story I never heard before .....Ricky shows up with the Rams against Elvis' "big boys" football team...that's hilarious hahahahaha...I wish I could have seen the look on their faces when the Rams show up with Ricky...esp guys like Red West....and I hope David was there to enjoy that.
I remember where I was at and what I was doing when news aired Ricks passing a very sad day love his music
Led Zeppelin, the great Rock group, were performing at a major venue, when they heard the news of Ricky's death. Their singer announced that fact to the audience, and rather tearfully, broke into a version of "Lonesome Town"--which happens to be my favorite of all of Rick Nelson's tunes. Rick Nelson was an inspiration to many other artists!
David sound’s just like his brother
