Ride around the Breckland's area of Norfolk
Thank you for the review, very helpful. I have created a custom map with different colours for land, main roads, minor roads etc to make them stand out and become for visible but it seems that when I view this on my Chigee screen, the view is not the map I have created. It appears just like the screen you have behind you in your video. Is there a way of making the custom map appear on my Chigee screen (I'm using Apple Carplay).
Is the visor light smoke or dark smoke?
It is a light smoke which I find to be great.
Do think it’s light smoke? I think so aswel as I don’t think it’s dark enough for dark smoke, which the description on stores/websites all claims to be dark smoke
Thanks for the video. I used to ride these roads in the early 80's on my RD350LC. Doesn't look like they have changed much.
0:23 can someone tell me what bike is this here ? 0:23
It is a Suzuki GT250X& from around 1980
thats so strange i own one and visit my uncle in villlage you was riding in outwell every week with it
If he want sale pls let me know.
Gs750 and z650 were thee best middleweights I think. Gs1000 and z1 were the best above that. Bulletproof motors, unlike most Honda's of the era. Crackin bikes the whole Gs range.
400/4's, Gt380's,cb360's etc amongst a few others back in the day, weren't very high on anyone's wish list as not much if any quicker, than most L plated 250's. Though I never liked them myself, have to applaud this particular owner and his bike.👏👏 Many more happy rides to him. Great video...enjoyed it very much.🍻
Great review mate
Ugly seat and lose the rack. Spoils the beautiful lines of the bike.
20:10 - perception was that back then the Japanese were making their frames out of what amounts to water or gas pipe. I had a 750 F1 back in the late 80's and although the geometry felt absolutely fine, if you hit a camber change, raised/thick white lines, a surface change, whatever, at any kind of speed in a fast sweeper it would quite often go into a what I can only describe as a 'corkscrewing' wobble which I was in no doubt was the frame flexing. Which of course is why the likes of Rickman made frames for them which were little different in construction/geometry but of rather better tube.
Absolutely. They all had their problems as you mentioned but if you cruise along at legal speeds they were ok
Thanks so much for the video. I’m no boy racer, I have two SR 250s 😂 but I think “Hero“ is a bit of a stretch for 400 four owners back in the day. My neighbour Brian did accountancy and he used his to ride back-and-forth to work. More a solid reliable commuter.
You have to remember in the mid seventies young people didn't have access to money like we do now so the no's of lads who could afford bikes like these were few. So, those that did were hero's to us impressionable young lads who were so amazed to see this new machine pull up on the village green.
A lovely ride.. I really miss motorcycling in Norfolk even though I live on the edge of the Peak District now.
I had one of those, bloody hard work to ride fast, constantly changing gear, no torque below 4.5k revs and 30mpg. Never again.
Yes I found that to and if I am honest i found it a bit 'wheesy"
Look like American spec indicators 🙄
Weren't they really slow, those small four-cylinder machines from the 1970's? I think so. I tried a Suzuki GS 500, in 1980, and it had power like a rubber-band. Sure, it was smooth, but also felt awkwardly lazy. My Suzuki GT 550, two-stroke, was an absolute rocket in comparison...😂
Yes I went down the 2 stroke route which were much snappier but didn't have the looks
10:19 those indicators don't look right to me, they look like the American ones, I don't remember mine being that huge 😮
These early ones had the pillion foot rests on the swing arm, later on they were mounted on the sub frame, but these meant the pillion had their legs going up and down 😂😂
Thanks for watching
Always a good looking bike but I always thought they were dimensionally too smal,l especially for the taller rider 6'1"
I am indeed around that height and I found it small but not uncomfortably so
The exhaust on the 400 4 has always been one of the best looking designs.
It blew me away as an impressionable 15 yearold
Pretty sure you owned a Velocette, too!
The artistry involved in the design of these machines is stunning.
Thanks for watching
That’s a beautiful bike Brian.
Helmet on the tank? Bit of a scratch issue
Yes fair point but I did lay my gloves, carefully, palm down on the tank to protect the tank from my helmet
@@shuttersandspeed it’s just not something I’d do…but I love the channel…thank you 😃👍
I had one back in ‘82…tbh it felt dated then, but they are beautiful, and that’ll always count. Thank you
Thanks for watching
I had one of these in the early '80s; a fine 'little' bike and very capable. A decent set of Koni rear shocks cures a lot of that Honda wallow and bounce, making for a very good handler. Good ground clearance though the exhaust collector would scrape on right handers, (I was young then) and the bike was well capable of longer rides here in Australia of 500km plus. One of those bikes I wish I still had.
Yes different shocks make a world of difference as I have found with my own Yamaha Tracer 900
Great bike 👍back then they made great looking bikes and in striking colours too.
The GS550E was a better bike in my opinion I paid £896 brand new. Never missed a beat
I had a work friend years ago who loved restoring these little cars. Chester Mckaige was his name and he also wrote a book about these . Lovely restoration Thanks for your video
Hi have you found a way to silence the notifications for waypoints? I use a lot and it becomes annoying to constantly get the alerts. I also find that the map is not showing me at the turn point but before or after. Makes it very annoying
Interesting point. I have not found it to be a problem yet but will let you know if I do
Great fun bike once you could ride properly.
Hello from Buenos Aires - Argentina! Today I have my GS 750e 1979 in red. I enjoy to drive her every day and is wonderfull for me to ride that beautiful bike with my 57 years old. Nice video!
I bought the first GS750E to come into NZ, in blue. I was 18 at the time. Gave up riding when my first child was born. Took riding up again 12 years ago with a GSF1250, another great bike. Back in the day a friend of mine bought a Boldedor, took my GS for a ride, and kicked himself for not getting one. Nice video. Took me down memory lane. I can understand your enthusiasm. Fantastic bike
nice review...got the app myself, premium btw, and loving it very much...except for two things...major disadvantage is the fact that the position of my motorbike on the map does not coincide with my real position, there's a significant delay...i noticed you're also experiencing that delay, but it doesn't seem to be as big as on my device, running iOS...minor thing is that the traffic situation is not as accurate or up to date as what i see on other apps...apart from those two inconveniences, it's absolutely a great app...in future, i'd love to see a web application in which i can truly create and design routes, synching them to my phone
You can create routes using Google Maps and then import them into Scenic. Works fine.
@@leeroysilk true...and, just found out, if you have an apple computer with a silicon processor, you can run the scenic app on your computer to design a route...the lagging problem can also be solved, if you enable the setting 'extrapolation position' in the finetuning section
Lovely bike. I bought a 1980 GS550 3 years ago to use as a cheap, everyday, all year round 2nd bike, and I'm very happy with it. It's my first Japanese bike since I passed my test on a CB160 in 1974 (my other bike is a 78 T140V). I keep looking out for a 750 or 850 at the right price, but I doubt if I'll get the value for money I have with the 550.
Just subscribed and doing a binge watch. Exactly the same back story as yourself, however I did purchase a fully restored Mk2 Fizzy Yellow, in my fifties. It sits in the front room and every time I look at it I think Yes, done it, that’s mine 😀😀😀😀
Saved up on a paper round for mine, together with a Nolan guardsman helmet and a belstaff
One of the teachers in my old school rode a GS 750 to school everyday in 1978. He was always half pissed and stunk of stale booze. 🤣
Portrait is much clearer to use when planning
Steve you need to find a proper Cooper’S’ and that would open your eyes
Such a shame that the rising pound priced them too high. From 1976- 1978 they went up 50% in price from $1,995-$2800. Quite a lot of money 💰 back in the 1970's. Plus every road test in the magazines had some piddly little things go wrong. Such a shame 😢.
Hi mate could you possibly do some playlists, I'm interested in the bikes, cheers.
Had my black gs750 in 1978 and had other bikes but miss the gs the most
I had an almost identical GS750 in 1979 until an uninsured driver in a Hillman Imp pulled out from a 'give way' then stopped right in front of me. Afterwards, mine was rather more bent than this one.
That is always a tough one to take
If it is too heavy,go down to the GS550 or even the GS400 twin, had both and they are good bikes.
Not a bad idea
Great video. I had a 1978 GS550 then traded up to a 79 GS 1000E. Beautiful bike . Today good value classics, compared with the the equivalent kawasaki. New sub
That is a good point. Every bit as good as a Z900 for a tenth of the price
I had a GS550 in that paint scheme with chromed sidecasings (until my mate backed into it and knocked it off the sidestand!) Also had a GS1000 in a slightly different blue colour and a GS750 which had been badly repainted black. Great bikes and would love to buy another one. Great video thanks - brought back some special memories 👍😀👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Hi Stephen if I remember didn't Kevin have a Suzuki GS750
He had GS850 wuth a Pantera fairing
Now l remember thank you for that
Wow, I had one for these in 1982, forgot what a nice looking bike that was :)
Still look good today
nice looking bike
Interesting name
