I do maintenance, repairs, and upgrades on McLaren and Mercedes AMG primarily, with a sprinkle of some other things. Occasionally I do some drag racing and autocross.

Awesome instructional video! These guys ROCK!
My Hyundai doesnt have that problem
Thank you again <;;;<<even when you got experience through the years <;;; <it,s better to see ... JYA Engineering. from< France
No can’t really see but yeah can see inside it’s broke smh 👍💀💯goodjob.?💀🤡
Mechanic of 18 years experience here, 7 of those were at a suspension shop. If someone asked me to lower their McLaren, I would call them an idiot and make them leave my shop.
why did he need lowering springs? arent they already ow enough??
Some people think it needs less fender gap in appearance then forgot what also changes when you do that.
I love the profile picture of that mp412c man, that is a badass car
Neighbor across from me has a C6 Corvette. It always scrapes really bad at the bottom of his driveway. I have the same slope driveway and my McLaren never scrapes. McLarens are better engineered and plenty low enough from the factory.
😂😂😂 Mclarens are better engineered 😂😂😂 That's a goo one. They're a bunch of plastic ice cream lids glued together the fit and finish is garbage
@@samthesr20man - Found someone who can't afford one.
And your 2007 V6 Charger your mom cosigned on isn't?
@@dno8025 How's the second mortgage going? Borrowing money on a vastly deprecating asset must make you feel soo rich 🤣
@@McMedics usdm cars are definitely on par with Mclarens I'll give you that. But no, my late 90s lexus daily is just as good as the day it rolled off the assembly line. Try again
Oof. Whats the cost to fix that mistake?
Used shock is $900, new one is $2400, labor to swap it, and labor to put factory springs back in
I'm not a mechanic or anything. So idk if this is a dumb question or if it even makes sense 😅 But if the lowering spring is what caused this problem, do you have to replace all 4 now and go back to stock or do you just replace the broken piece on this one?
I advise to not do lowering springs to start with, so i will advocate putting OEM back on.
That makes sense. Thanks for the answers.
Good info, how do you feel about coilovers?
If it's on a McLaren and it's not a GT4 car, don't.
How did that happen with lowered springs? Curious
Shocks are designed for specific travel, if you shorten the range all that force goes into the shock.
@McMedics thank you Kevin and team!
@antilol66 I'm Sean, the one in the videos
Well maybe if they came low enough from the factory. But you know they can't get body gaps, right? So I can't really trust anything else they're doing. But yeah if you're going to get low bearing springs make sure you get the right shocks that goes for everything
Know how I know you don't own and have never driven a McLaren?
😂😂😂 please answer his question
it was helpful ..thanks for help , to prevent expensive mistakes....greatings from FRANCE
If I had been doing this job I would have replaced ALL cam followers! You CAN NOT use old followers on a new cam lobe!
$1200 per follower plus labor says you wouldn't.
No FFD
Was the reason for the damage ever understood? Early on a lack of cam lube was hinted at but....?
valve not bent?? very lucky!
Thumbs down on this video cause you're an ass for no sound clip
I have been looking for the solution to this problem for such a long time. Thank goodness for this video.
Best Mclaren content!
Ahhhh that sucks. What did the owner end up needing to do? Have the cylinders reconditioned?
We haven't opened up the engine yet.
@McMedics ah. A little stop leak and it'll be fine 🙏🏽
This is possibly a dumb question, but I feel I need to ask it anyways. If I were to unbolt the inlet from the turbo side and pull it out and find that broken piece and pull it out of the inlet. Is there anything else that can break in the inlet besides That big plastic piece? What I’m asking is if I pull out that big plastic piece is it safe to install the inlet back on the turbo and rock ‘n’ roll?
You could do that without fear of projectiles but air flow won't be optimal.
Hello I have a Senna. My #10 accumulator the parts diagram needs replacing. Would u know which one is it? It sit in the hydraulic line in the rear right suspension.
Senna accumulators are different than all 3 of those. Same as P1. Those are rechargeable with nitrogen. You may look into adding nitrogen, it may not have completely failed. If it has failed I can get the part.
How many hours job is this?
1.5-2 hrs for me, 4-5 hrs for many.
@ i wish i consulted you before my recent purchase of a 2020 720s. I bought it CPO from a mclaren dealer in the eastern US. i received it on the west coast and immediately heard a metallic noise from exhaust on every light acceleration. Took it to local mclaren dealer and it turns out the exhaust manifold is broken in half from the bracket. Completely separated. Its been at the dealer for 12 days so far waiting for approval to do a repair by the CPO warranty. My issue is i cant believe the McLaren dealer sold me a car with such a massive issue and presented it to me as CPO and fully inspected. I was considering having the dealer swap the oem plastic inlets with silicon ones while they have access to the manifold but they probably wont do it due to warranty being voided. Just dont know why its taking so long to get the situation handled. I had the car for 2 days before taking it to dealer
Sounds like you bought from Charlotte
@ negative. North jersey. They claim they didnt know, but i heard it within 2 seconds of driving so not sure how
@ovasov that's NJ being NJ
Should have replaced the conrods as they are like toothpicks and prone to failure.
Not the case in non-LT 3.8's
if you want to seal a split line without disassembly, a guy put us onto stuff aircraft techs use called aerospace sealant thats fuel rated, the B1/2 being the faster setting than the b2. Drop the oil to stop the weep for a day. clean and scrub the line, mix the two part sealant and apply and let sit a day or 2 without the oil in it, and it wont leak a drop , the guy showed a seam he did in the late 80's and hasnt leaked a drop since, You get it on ebay thats near life limitted out.
Interesting
Thank you brother
More shit for the landfill.
Sorry, you did the service.
Was the service performed at McLaren dealership?
Of course not! I service cars all over the world myself.
Shit I’ve paid more than that in 1 year with on my 50k mile ‘17 Panamera turbo. Brakes, oil filter housing replacement, and 2 motor mount replacement. $18k…..
Have you seen any lasting improvement with the "newer" DLDs that you have installed? Or is it a recurring problem regardless?
The 2017+ style we haven't seen failures at all. Putting the exposed spring style back in will eventually fail again
Thanks for the video. Installed my EMF air filters on my 570 spider tonight. Easy job. Filters are pretty tight going in but with some patience and a few pushes they fit. Removed the foam in the air box that was starting to deteriorate and there is a noticeable sound improvement.
This video made me nauseous because my 570s just got a cam phaser failure… car is CPO but dealer is having issues with claim
What warranty do you have?
@@McMedics it’s a CPO car that only has 6,900 miles.
Thanks for posting, very informative! The headers/downpipes seem to be quite buried in there. Do you know how much time is required approx to remove and install a new pair?
I plan on 4 hours, sometimes it takes more, sometimes it takes less.
@@McMedics Thank you very much, you've been very helpful. I'm pondering getting a McLaren next year and just trying to learn as much as possible. I'm in the Southeast so luckily you'd be fairly close.
@eddy91604 I travel everywhere though, worldwide
Hi Sean! Thank you for this video, which also serves the purpose to not lose ones nerve when things are getting more complex with the McLarens. Went to the garage today and wanted to connect my Ecoflow "Powerbank" to the tender. Push the button on the key: 12C doesn't react at all. OK, went upstairs to check out the door opening procedure. My user's manual says that there is supposed to be a cover in the sill, below the door... Well maybe there is. But not on my early VIN car. Luckily the widows had opened that little bit as the should so a trusty wire clothes hanger did the trick in combination with the emergency release. Found the know on which to pull if you want to open the trunk and voila: Trunk open. Connected the tender - tender says "no". Uff. Back to the computer check out your wake up procedure. Luckily I have a NOCO jump starter which helped the battery to wake up agai. Since that the charger has initially drawn 120 Watts from the Ecoflow, now it is down to 84 - looks like 7 Amps @ 12V. Anyway: Your video has helped tremendously, I cannot thank you enough. On a different note: Would you have any experience with dead door controls? I can no longer adjust the A/C or open the door electrically. The buttons in the door (engine cover, towing alarm etc) don't work but IIRC the window regulator still works. Any suggestion would be appreciated highly. Cheers, Joerg
There are a few reasons you might loose control of that door, and it all sounds door module related or communication related.
@@McMedics Thank you very much. Will first test the wiring then.
Thanks for posting these videos and giving many of us hope lol. I've seen you post on the McLaren forum as well. In your experience, is it possible to get parts from McLaren to do an engine rebuild or are there aftermarket parts available? I had a V8 Vantage years ago which spun a rod bearing so I like to know the worst case scenario beforehand. In the case of 570s which I'm looking at, it comes down to a full engine rebuild and transmission rebuild cost. I know some DCTs can be rebuilt at specialized shops (I believe 458 and SLS DCTs for example) but have no idea about McLaren units. Thanks!
Yes, engine rebuild is actually something McMedics does. There are factory parts in some capacity available as well as some aftermarket support.
@@McMedics Any rough idea of the labor costs involved? I see taking the engine out of the 12C is quite laborious. I thought it was annoying to have it done in my former 355 for the timing belts but at least there the car was designed for a relatively quick drop.
Engine out and back in alone is 30 hrs, plus whatever repairs.
@@McMedics Thank you very much, that's very helpful!
I had to subscribe so that when I get my McLaren in a few years I’ll be back🙂↕️
To anyone watching this. Fast forward till the dude in the wheelchair starts talking. That’s when you actually learn something.
I got my 650s this year, I took it in for the takata recall. Free module updates which is kinda cool... but it takes awhile. :P
I've owned my 570s for 2 years without warranty. Put 15000 more miles on it, no issues. Just overly priced oil changes which I should have done myself but lazy lol
I'm less than the dealer and I come to you. My oil changes aren't cheap but you're paying for someone to not mess it up, not the oil change.
@@McMedics I will keep that in mind! :D
Where can I find the trchnical manual for this job?
Great video! If you were doing preventative mold maintenance can you just jam gel packets behind the bulb and does that require doing everything you did with the bumper? Thanks!
That's what McLaren's fix is, which doesn't work. I put them in the middle and it seems to work. I correct headlights all the time that have bags at the bulb hole already.
Just remember dealerships make more money on repairs than they do selling cars so yeah they're going to get you good
Maybe on regular cars, not supercars. They often get kickbacks on top. Making 20-30% on a car is possible.
Can you put a link to the kit you bought? The kit im seeing on FCP is over 1k
I did this video 4 years ago, it might cost that now.
Thank you for making the video! Awesome job.😊
The comments: "How dare you make this guy work in a wheelchair!!!" The guy in the wheelchair: "Hehehe I get paid per hour" LOL
If you have already or if you haven’t, could you please do a video on all the options to look for that the MC 12-4 C had and what a buyer would want or not want? And if the car doesn’t have the options, can it be added?
When you're talking MSO the options are endless. Any option can be added for a price. Short of carbon ceramic brakes all options are cosmetic.
I feel cheated! MY18 spider doesn't have a glove box! :(
No north American models do.
Fuckin badass bro 🍻
