Salvage 1 Bus Life Adventures
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 26 พ.ค. 2012
This channel has morphed over the years. It started as a way to show video game developers the issues I was having when playing their games but has now become about my journey as a new member of the Bus Life community. Who knows how long that will last or what the channel will change to in the future but for now...it's all about the bus and traveling.

Did Harbor Freight Change The Predator 224 Max Performance Engine?
มุมมอง 8114 หลายเดือนก่อน
Several months ago Harbor Freight ceased stocking Predator 224 engines and even removed them from their website. For several weeks people in the Mini-Bike and Karting world agonized over the reason and stories started to circulate that the engine had been dropped from the line up or worse yet...the design changed for cheaper production. Thus the stories of 224 engines returning with Hemi-Heads ...

It's been 20 months since Salvage 1 joined the family and what an agonizing time it's been. Will we FINALLY be able to get on the road in the waining months of 2023 or will another Quartzite pass us by while repairs and personal emergencies eat up what little money and spare time remain? Come along with us as we blunder our way from one part of the build to the next as we turn the old Bus in to...

I got the same carb a put the bolts in the other way also they need a 115 jet to work and if you keep blowing intake gaskets it’s bc the gasket is to thin I had to make one and dril my jet out with 1/16 dril bit for it to run
Hey I saw the two engines, 196, and 223 myself about a month ago at hf! They had the renforced blocks, and a nice cast valve cover. But um really curious avout the 223 man thatd be awesome to know about! Good video!
What does driving a car without a computer have anything to do with the price of bananas in Brazil??? It's a GPS speedometer.......just like the old garmin's that told you the mph you were driving, it works off of satellites...lol. Dude must be high or not too bright 😂
Another tip. Put the carb in a vice. Not with max clamp force obviously to not damage it. And then do it. Will help keep it steady
I don’t care what car it is have your vehicles inspected before purchase even if it’s from a dealer
Its the 100cc for an adult???😅
196cc and adults can fit on it fairly comfortably.
I drill those holes out before I even try lol makes it so much easier cause for whatever reason the holes are angled and make it a pain so I just get a slightly bigger drill bit and it makes it easy breezy
If this is an accurate portrayal, it's disappointing to have Carvana back in the news in this manner.
Buying a 2011 GM pos was your first problem man.
Why would you pay to have a car delivered that was 30 minutes away?
The car was in Montana. I paid $2000 to have it shipped to Arizona and Carvana takes cars to their Tolleson Inspection Facility. I couldn't get it delivered directly to my house. Had to go to their inspection facility first. Tolleson is 30 minutes from my house.
@@Buses2Bikes ok, get it now.
It was most likely a title / lien issue. My youngest kid brought a fairly new used car from a new car dealership. The sales process wasnt bad at all.. But after the sale, The car manufacturer had a lien out on the title to which the dealer sent payoff in the wrong amount. Thus the DMV never got the release for the lien to issue the new tag. it took the dealer like 4 months to finally reslove the issue. The state tag office had to step in to give a special tag permit so the car could be legally driven while the mess played out...
Thanks for making this video, I have decided not to buy a car from carvana after this.
I've read that when you buy a car from them they aren't selling you a specific car. You get a "whatever car" and if they have several in inventory they send you the worst one so that they can get it out of inventory. They are just hoping that you don't use the trade back option. They are a really sleezy operation. They've had legal problems in multiple states. I'd avoid them all together
So far they have been shady. I got 7 days to turn it back in and get my $$ back if the vehicle isn't what they claimed.
I would say they dont have title and took the carbin w a lien and haven't paid the lien off yet. Either way dude 30k for a 13 year old Escalate. Wow. Get your money back buddy.
I got 7 days after receipt of the vehicle and if it's not what they say it is, I'' get my money back. If it truly is low miles and the description is accurate, I feel it's worth the money. We shall see.
@@Buses2Bikes Not only could you get something much nicer and newer in the world of depreciated luxury cars for 30K. That 2011 truck KBBs private party sale for 16-19K. In no way is it worth 30K.
Pretty Interesting. Haven't heard much about carvana recently. Today I saw a jeep being shipped from carvana and it made me think, next think you know this video pops up in my recommendations
Right?! I blame all that crazy AI taking over the inter webs! I think about getting some lunch and I see an add for the newest pizza or burger. I think about the last movie I saw and an add pops up for the latest Marvel movie. The only thing AI is slacking on is my thinking about Hot Porn Chicks. I think about that but so far....nothing. AI doesn't provide.
I bought me a new to me 2002 gmt800 Escalade. Black on tan. AWD V8 6.0 I bought it through private seller ads. Full cash sale. Quick and easy.
And that is always how I bought cars in the past. 2 times I've bought cars through a dealer and both were bad experiences. Paying cash face to face in a private sale is the best way to go. 100% agree.
GMT800 best platform in USA.
2002 cars were still good quality built built to last

What happened to your Ghost? Is Black66 going to build your new 224?
I sold the Ghost's remains and I'm going to try and build the 224 myself. I sucked at modifying the Ghost and definitely have not learned anything since that build but I'm gonna take a shot at it anyways.
@@Buses2Bikes You could do it. The thing about the 224 is all the clearancing needed. It just takes extra time. Nice thing is that they now have cams specifically for stroker engines like the 224. There are three less clearance points to be concerned with.
@@Deucealive75 The REV KIT from DIY on Ebay is one of those kits. No clearancing needed. It fits right in to the 224 with no issues. Black66 did do some minor grinding inside the block because he didn't feel comfortable with the tight tolerances in some spots but it was extremely minor stuff. When I get to working on it I'll reference his video and repeat the same work and everything should be good.
That is not a second gen. That's new old stock. I just purchased a second gen. It is a hemi.
I need pictures!!!!!

Easiest carb ever lol
I got mine today It's inaccurate by 1-3 miles how do i fix it
It uses satellites so it's prolly your car that is off and not the GPS /odometer. Might be as easy a fix as making sure your tires are properly inflated so your dash odometer reads as accurate as possible. Or if you changed tire size, that could throw off the car's odometer too. If you're 100% sure it's the GPS Odometer that's off...do you live in a mountainous/heavy tree area? Those features may cause a lag in satellite data/signal reaching the unit and causing inaccurate readings.
They're designed to over-read the same as a car speedo is. Some of the other 'HUD' speedos (this one is not actually a HUD) available allow you to adjust the over-read percentage but this one doesn't - I have one. Just because it is GPS, doesn't mean it's a true speed, it depends how it has been programmed.
@@bryanwadd Well...it matched our vehicle's Speedo so WIN/WIN
@@Buses2Bikes it's very tweaky it bounces around it's never even close to accurate i finally got an obd one turns out my odo is actually off by 3 miles but still I'm more comfortable with the obd cause it has many features
@@Buses2BikesFine except when you buy two or three that don't agree with each other while plugged into the same car. Kind of shakes your confidence.
I check my lotto tickets that way all the time and I'm never entered into anything.
There is the Ticket checking feature on the APP and then there is the Players Club scan. If you have the app to scan with odds are you're also signed up in your state's players club. Scan the tickets using the players club scan option and you are automatically entered in to whatever auto-entry lottos your state is part of PLUS you get the points you accumulate after scanning and can put them towards other lotto games in the players club for even more chances to win.
Thanks for the video, I was looking for a cheap speedometer for my space shuttle. ;-) Thanks
These Speedos are programmed to over read by 4%. If you want "accurate", this is not the one to get.
Except it perfectly matched the speedo on our car. When we were doing 50, it read 50. When we did 65, it read 65. It always stayed 1 mph during up and down travel speed and we settled on a MPH and stayed there, the GPS Speedo matched our speed reading and stayed steady. Watch the video.
Folks get these because their speedometer crapped out.. like my situation and right now I cannot afford 120 bucks for a "used" instrument cluster for my car. Just something to be within 2 to 3 mph of speed limit
@@Buses2Bikes Production speedos are designed to overread as well so i guess this makes sense. May I ask how was the delay under hard acceleration/braking? I can live with slight over read but not delay.
@@Cornerer1 From what we could tell it either under-read or over-read for only a couple of seconds when we changed speed. And that we figure was the lag time for the satellites to ping back with the correct speed. But again, it was only 1 MPH up/down for a second or two than it read correctly again. For $20 I think that is acceptable performance.
@@Buses2Bikes Satellites don't ping the speed, that's not how it works. They send a constant stream of packets of data with a time stamp in them which the GPS speedo picks up. Getting enough of these streams of data from multiple satellites enable the unit to calculate position, and therefore distance from one position to the next (if you're moving), and therefore speed can be calculated when time from one position to the next is taken into account.
So Im a big guy too, please be honest, is this something us big guys can use? Want to put it in the bed of my old truck for when I go to car shows, etc.
I have used this Rambler 2 to 3 times a week to get the mail ( 1/2 mile round trip ) and it is holding up just fine. The tires aren't worn, the battery holds up and no breakage of any kind. I think the Rambler would make an excellent pit bike.
Great Video - Funny watching a "tin hat" assume this takes info from your car
He didn't know how basic the GPS unit was. He assumed it got its info from the car too and not ONLY from satellites.
great video
I recently bought a 2006 Jaguar XJ8 that was originally sold into Canada, its rather small speedometer reads in KPH, my old eyes have a hard time reading the MPH band on the dial. This sort of thing would be just the thing to have, thanks for the review.
i assembled this twice in a row with no directions for the first time and both work fine, you must just putting stuff on wrong or overthinking it
Prolly.
how did you get your metal spacer on my screws don’t fit
@@evc.brizzy1812 you sometimes have to put the adapter on the block first or the carb first, doesn’t always work one way
Thnks for the ‘free tip’ lol
Should there be a gasket in-between the manifold and carb?
This type of carb has an O-Ring that acts as the "gasket" when the two surfaces are bolted together. No gasket can be used as you'll definitely cause air gaps/leaks
@Buses2Bikes no matter how i aline it how i tune it i cant get it to run of choke i even stripped the manifold making sure its tight enough am i missing something?
@@kaizupiano7826 There's a needle at the top of the carb in the slide. That may be set incorrectly or may be missing the small plastic piece/ring that the needle needs to sit down in to. Have you checked any of that? If all of that checks out and it's set correctly...than I would just go buy another carburetor. They are cheap and you can get a very good out of the box Nibbi Clone, a PWK 24mm , for the Mid $20s, and an appropriate intake manifold that comes with the hose attachment for another $12 to $13. Do away with all of the goofy carb/intake aligning altogether.
@Buses2Bikes idk why no one mentioned to me the goofy aligning part when i was recommended this carb it may be a good carb but has one of the worst designs and the pwk and nibbi look much higher quality
@@kaizupiano7826 The only drawback to the Nibbi-PWK design is that the rubber hose can wear faster than a standard mounted carb/intake. But the ease of swapping one out, the speed of getting a Nibbi set up running far outweighs that one negative. And no aligning issues.
I freakin knew that was a 3126 Cat!! Mines a 2003. Is your tranny a 2000 series or 3000?
Transmission is there Allison MD 3060 Push Button transmission. I believe it has a 6th gear that can be unlocked but got around fine with the 5 speed.
@@Buses2Bikes Yes, you can have that unlocked, but if you're not going to go over 60mph, it's not really necessary. I'm a 55mph guy, so I'm not going to unlock it. My bus has 113k original miles Georgia bus, not a touch of rust anywhere, it's loud as all hell inside, but once the interior is done, that shouldn't be an issue. I also think I'll swap the springs for air ride in the back.
@@doghouse416 Personally, I would leave the springs on the rear. Especially if you plan on carrying a lot of weight. Water, Tanks, Tools and interior build.
@@Buses2Bikes Air bags hold the same weight as leaf springs. I've had two semi-trucks in my life a 91-spring ride K-100 and my current truck a 99 International 9800 air ride.....the difference in ride quality is night and day. Air ride is a relatively simple conversion, and the Cat has an air compressor already. It's my only regret when I bought the bus 2 weeks ago....but you can't get everything for 2k. I do plan on keeping the door opener, the kids love it.
No comments?...well this is the same bus situation I'm in right now....same exact Thomas bus.
Use a thinner cut off wheel than we used. Makes the job so much faster.
@@Buses2Bikes I saw those grinder wheels you had!! I'm thinking of just sending my 13-year-old under the bus with a wrench. Those wiry little shits can get places we can't.
@@doghouse416 We had the issues if the frame rails running directly under most of the bolts so they didn't come out. In the end that helped because after we cut the heads off, the bolts would drop but still fill the holes so there weren't 100 open holes in the floor. I just filled in the holes with some flex seal and called it a day.
@@Buses2Bikes Good point, I haven't been under there to see, hopefully most of them will come out and the rest can be handled by the cut off wheel. I also am toying with the idea of flooding the floor and using the torch to cut the heads off. Since the old plywood and plastic floor is getting pulled out anyway.
I’m late to the video but do you still like it? Just bought one lol
Still have it. Still works and still love it. I haven't had time to do the upgrades I wanted to do but just riding like it is has been fun. Definitely worth the money.
this is a real hero
Thanky Thanky. 😁
Mine has the same carb. I put it on and only works with choke on but when it’s on it revs super high. What do I need to do? I also checked the screw and did all the turns and still goes high.
you have an air leak. You need to remove the carb and the intake from the engine. Then re-align the intake to the carb. You have to make sure the transition from carb to intake in the throat is smooth with no rubber o-ring visible when you look from either direction inside. And don't crush the o-ring when you tighten it down. Snug each nut down an equal number of turns until the intake is snug to the carb flange. 2 or 3 turns to one side, 2 or 3 turns to the other...back and forth until it's snug. And you have to keep checking down in the throat to make sure the alignment didn't get messed up.
Put you intake manifold on tightly an then turn off all lights or wait till it’s dark and shine a light where the intake is attached to the engine. Shine around it and look theough the intake hole, if you see a light going theough, get some gas resistance sealent and rub it around wait like 15 mins and re attach it.
Nice, I got one too. It rocks and so do you guys. Excellent work gentlemen.
Awesome! Thank you!
