Just picked up the 1Bs used and WOW they sound good.
Love my new 2Ce Sig lll
What is different about this amp and a HiFi rose 280 or 180?They both use Gallium nitride fets.
As mentioned in the video, the device AGD uses is the only one that was designed for audio from the ground up. AGD has the only supply of these, they bought them all. Similar to what Nelson Pass does when he finds a device he likes.
What a great interview! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Proof is in the pudding only.
I’d love to see a big DAC head to head but will never happen via manufacturers imo
Richard Vandersteen is legend, unfortunately there are very few in the business doing phase/time perfect speakers, there is Duntech in Australia.... there were late Jim Thiel and John Dunlavy. Pat McGinty did before with previous Meadowlark Audio products..... Seriously now, the only choice is Vandersteen Audio. Once you heard and get used to phase/time perfect speakers there is no going back 😍 IMHO; Non phase/time perfect speakers do have something mechanical to them, not natural.... in lack of a better way to describe this!
Mr. Vandersteen is as knowledgeable as any speaker designer out there. I've owned the Model 1B and the 2C (well, actually I bought them and gave a pair to my sister (the 1Bs) and another to a friend (the 2Cs) and in both rooms I heard them in (my sister's and the friend's), they were exceptional. Strings (violins) sounded gorgeous, and violins are very hard to get right. Many designs make them sound "steely," which is how people who don't go to the symphony THINK they sound - but they don't! I admire Mr. Vandersteen for his quality designs, but also because he doesn't price his speakers to the skies, and yet, the quality is of the highest order.
Wonderful interview. Alberto, has there been an issue with any failures at all with your amps?
Very Good question! The only failures we experienced so far, were related to power surge from the mains. USA power grid is really quite bad unfortunately.
@@Albert-nj9xm Talking to the choir.
"Not killing the customer base is very important." That was funny.
Umm... these are about 15000.00 to 16,000.00 more expensive than other options that I'd venture perform better. State of the art GAN is sub 2k, Purifi can be had for around 1k.
Same design, not the same materials. Go over parts & chassis differences + smaller USA production is always more $$$. Surprised you don't know that.
@saint6563 not gonna name names, but I'm speaking of US production. I'll give you the chassis difference. Still...
While I appreciate advancements in technology and the benefits of Class D amplifiers, I can't help but question the pricing of some products. Class D amplifiers are known for being cost-effective to produce while still delivering ample power and decent sound quality. Therefore, it seems unreasonable for someone to ask $10K+ for any Class D amp. This pricing likely involves a massive markup, possibly in the range of 1000%. While some audiophiles may be willing to pay such prices, I believe that in a few years, many Class D amps will sound as good as their expensive counterparts, making such high prices seem unjustified.
Audiophiles have deep pockets !
Will u consider lowering the retail price! ? Will u send the web link for international shipping ? And keep us in loop if u have a promotion coming up? Need to plan for such an upgrade to your this new branding.
The late Bill Woodman was Australian Acoustics Engineer did his degree with Plessey Roller in melbourne Victoria also R & D Engineer with Goodmans loudspeakers uk so you can bet you bottom dollar that every component and product that ATC has been engineered to the enth degree . How do i no , i have been a friend of the family for 40 years yes i have atc speaker that are that old and still going ....
I have been sitting in front of speakers in commercial recording studios for 30+, working. When I am not working and at home listening to some music maybe having a drink the last thing that want in front of me is a load of drivers staring at me. The Grill/s that are supplied with the entry level consumer range ATC should offer two choices and one of those should be a cover that visually blocks you from viewing any drivers.
They are great...if you can listening realy loud. Not for apartmants.....because neighbours. For houses only.
l have the Active 50s. What a gem. They capture the mood of anything I put on. Need it fast and lively its there, need a slow burn very intimate its there too. The most balanced presentation from top to bottom with no crashing in the crossover ranges and this holds as you crank them all the way up. They are just such a fun speaker/err monitor I only wish they had a friendlier price point. I mean I get they have 3 amps internally also included but they have really skyrocketed in pricing in recent years. So they have really given away that value benefit they use to have now it seems like a wash. I'm curious how they stake up against open baffles. Will have a chance to compare with the new Caladans from Clayton Shaw soon so I can't wait.
Anybody compared AGD amps to Orchand Audio GaN Amplifiers or Topping LA90 discrete (class AB, state of the art in measurements)?
We need a re seller in Melbourne Australia please
He sells directly.
Seem interesting now if they cut the price in half they would have something but their prices keep too many from ever trying the product is a shame.
It was 7500 now is 8600. Part of the intrigue of class D was their lower price. There is one other well regarded competitor to AGD that is cheaper. But considering how hot class D amps are right now I'm sure there is gonna be alot of other company's making similar strides at a much more reasonable cost so we can all enjoy.
Considering the AGD amps are using a bespoke audio GaN Fet, when the competitors are using industrial GaN devices, and is besting amps in the $25k and up class … I’d say the performance per dollar is quite good. If the price doesn’t suit, then it’s not the amp for you. Try a Jeff Rowland 125 at $4k
Orchard Audio
good video as ATC does not do a great job explaining this subject matter, Some super cool things about ATC; -by virtue of their product line, they essentially acknowledge zero performance differences between ‘studio’ and ‘home’ a longstanding myth that has been perpetuated without merit -passive speaker equivalents to many of their actives, nobody really does this -still creating sealed configurations -sold at pro audio shops worldwide and hence accessible for audition -still made in UK Would like to maybe see lower price premiums towards less dated designs/finishes and also some experimentation with DSP
why cant you offer them at a more affordable price?
I've had a pair of SCM40s for just over 2 years and I LOVE THEM!
Totally agree, I’ve had my satin white pair for about the same amount, and they are fabulous.
Too expensive for a class D. Pass.
I attended Santa Monica College and also became an instructor there. I listened to you all the time. Wonderful voice to hear each day.
I own the AGD Audion. Incredible amps! They walk all over a lot of very high end A and AB amps. They provide that tube sweetnes with the power and slam of the best AB and class D amps! Extremely refined, fast and natural amps with zero listening fatigue! Incredible customer service as well!
Thanks Alberto for the class D overview. The AGD “tube” amplifier is both a impressive performer & beautiful.
i gotta try a pair of those SCM 20's
We Brits always made good speakers.......at least we still make something worthwhile.
Eeeeee...but...fish and chips?!?
These are great speakers and this room sounded fabulous at the show!!
I have the SCM19 that has the same tweeter...airy,detailed and refined without fatigue
I too have the 19’s and they are sublime. I would like to get some 40a’s to simplify my system and increase base a little bit.
Been using these (passive) for about 8 years now. No regrets whatsoever, in fact one of my best hi-fi decisions.
I’ve never heard a single word of criticism about this loudspeaker 🧐
For me unknown reasons, everyone gave up on the domed middletones
What I would really like to know...and Alberto isnt the one to ask obviously....is what Pre-Amps work best for any of these models. Ive heard Tube Pre's are preferred but a list of brands with strengths/weaknesses of each would be awesome.
The AGD Alto is the obvious choice, the sonic signature matches very well and of course it is dead quiet. If you prefer a tubier sound, I'd suggest the Jadis line, which are extremely well regarded and beautifully finished.
@@theaudiophilezone Thanks. Jadis unfortunately has extremely limited interest and resale value. The "usual suspects" that are available the most often and easy to flip are brands like LTA, Luxman, Shindo, CJ etc. Cant remember the last time I saw a Jadis Pre-Amp on AudioMart or Audiogon or anybody looking for one
maybe we should have put some cute kittens or a corgi in there for more views. Oh well, next time.........
Very good interview and I plan to audition the Audion MKII mono blocks in the near future!
Nice one Guys, 👍🏼🔊
Is this the famous Rob Pearson?
@@theaudiophilezone the not so famous Rob Pearson. So cool you are on here guys.
wow, i feel justified in my jazz stances by the fact that some of my opinions parallel those of people i respect such as those in this episode of YT. in particular, the point about Oscar Peterson playing too many notes, something i have often voiced to friends at the LA/OC Audio Society meetings in conversation. i also have the same feeling about Errol Garner, with Misty being an outlier. i would love to see more episodes like this in the future. hearing Tom's anecdotes about the musicians he has interviewed and the familiarity of all of you with Kevin Gray, a real master of mastering recordings. maybe an episode with him at his new recording studio and his future plans for dome direct-to-disc recording! keep them coming guys! ...hifitommy
We will be doing more of these, thanks for the comments Tommy!
