There is no expectation of privacy in public. If Idiots are going to make the argument of you need permission, then you can say did you get permission from the public in writing to film them using CCTV? They will BS an answer. Multiple cases of people being arrested for filming in public have been thrown out by the courts as filming/ photography in public, is a public right. He has just admitted that the guy filming is on public land. Idiot. He also says he has to remove him from the bus station. Then says he will get the cops to do it. Criminal Justice Act 1972 Section 33 applies here. Far too many idiots thinking they know the law. Data Protection would only apply to information that can identify people.

Ther are more cameras of all types in the UK than most countries. Everyone here should be used to them by now, including him.

Well, look at it this way. Suppose someone carried out an attack at a bus station or somewhere like that and people were seriously injured. The during the inquiry it turned out that the perpetrator had planned the attack meticulously including doing a video reconnaissance of the area. Would people then ask why was he not challenged when he was doing that. I expect that some people who point out that it is legal to film in public would adk 'why didn't somebody do somethin?' The fact is whilst it isn't illegal it can be viewed as suspicious which prompts the interaction with the security/police. That's why these people do it. The want the engagement so that they can then have the 'it's all legal, even though its odd' conversation. At a time of heightened tension it's really the last thing anyone needs in having to deal with someone deliberately acting suspiciously when there may be genuine threats going on. Still, you can't account for folk. You are all allowed to act how we like within the boundaries of the law. I wonder how am 'auditor' would feel if they had inadvertently diverted police resource to deal with them and a serious incident occurred whilst it was going on? My guess would be to blame the authorities for that too.

I've photographed many buses in many different stations but that was from the pavement and not the station itself and not had any confrontations, only had one driver that shouted at me not to take a photo but that was on public land. Even when commonwealth games were on in Birmingham, there were a few of us taking photos and not once did we get stopped by the police.

Don’t blame you for not moving you’re in public at the end of the day and you’re allowed to film whatever you can see with your eyeballs. People need to learn the law.

Of course whilst they are objecting to enthusiasts with cameras half of the passengers in the bus station are busy video calling or taking selfies with all and sundry in the background!!

in that very same bus station, whilst i was driving buses, i was filmed MANY times. and lived through it. just waved to bus spotters.

Filming is legal. Anywhere. Except in a prison or filming people involved in a court case. Also, in some military sites.

I was a Bus driver in the 70's there have always been coach photographers , back then they were welcome and some invited inside the Depo and workshops fo a look around and photograph , back then they never had video cameras and would often pay a bus fare to take a short tour , some with sound recorders who held the mic to the floor to record the engines on single deck coaches, I have even when out in the countryside stopped the bus so they could get a decent picture , a few have asked if I would like some pictures sent through the post to me (no internet) which they did send, these photographer's are like historians of transport keeping records of the same bus fleet number from new to scrap and private ownership .

Bus spotting is a hoby. Bus spotters know more about history of most buses and coaches .
