Walking Away From My Company: A Year Later
มุมมอง 114ปีที่แล้ว
One year ago, I officially left the company I started in 2000. It had slowly morphed into a day-to-day monotony that was not making me happy. While it was a hard decision and one I did not take lightly, the past year has been amazing! One year later.... ...I am as close to stress-free as I have ever been. ...I'm doing the kind of creative work I want to do and saying "no thanks" to everything e...

For anyone who find this, DO NOT CUT YOUR PLYWOOD TO BE TIGHT. Cut it to have AT LEAST an 1/8 inch gap on EACH SIDE. I'd go with 1/8 to 1/4 inch gap on each side. You DO NOT want the plywood touching the side wall of the bus. This will create a thermal bridging factor and transfer the outside temp into your bus. Also will not allow the wood to expand and contract with different temperature and humidity conditions. So leave the gap on BOTH sides. Then you can fill in that gap with the somewhat flexible Great Stuff can spray foam. That foam will seal the gap and break the thermal bridging. It is OK to cut the formular foam board tight if you wish, but not the plywood. To have a full floating floor means just that, it is floating and is NOT touching the side at all. Also, stagger your joints of the foamboard and plywood. DO NOT lay them sheet for sheet and have their joints almost match. I'd want my joints staggered at least a foot of each other. So this means, I'll measure the full length of the space I am installing foamboad/plywood. Depending on where it's going to land at the end, I may start with a 3 foot section of foamboard instead of full width 4 feet. Or, I may start with a full width sheet of foamboard and then cut off a foot of the plywood, or 16 inches or 18 inches, all depends on where it'll land at the end. In fact, it's probably better to start off with the shorter plywood, so that you're cutting off the tongue of the plywood so you have a full edge at the very back of the bus, not a piece that can easily be chipped off and away from the plywood. Sorry for the long post. Just do it right peeps. These materials are not cheap, and you have a lot of time and effort invested, so do it right and make it last.

Another one bites the dust !!! Both choices have pros and cons. The van is going to have just as many cons as the bus. Pick your poison. No perfect choice. You spent a ton more money on the Van, and you'll spend a ton more on insurance on the Van too. It';s been 2 years now, so you know this by now.

  • @NomadicHooker

I"ll add a tip to TRY. I've seen it work on many of these floor bolts including seats. And I"ve also seen it fail too. But, for what it's worth, if you have a strong impact/drill driver and a good quality bit or socket, set your driver to tighten instead of loosen. Make sure you have the bit/socket set in/on the fastener very good and give a quick full pull to the trigger. That will Zap the bolt very tight and snap it. The broken bolt will fall through the floor with the nut on it. Once you get all the bolts broke, pry up on the anchor strip and it'll come up off the floor with ease. Worth a try !!! Tighten insteadof Loosen !!! Good Luck to all !!!

I've been working on my skoolie since the whole covid started...I put a floating floor in, but didn't glue the foam or the plywood down or use any screws at all. I did use the same poly construction adhesive you use to glue the tongues into the grooves on the plywood, so the floor is effectively one big sheet of plywood laying on top of tightly fitted foam board insulation. The wall coverings I am putting up hold the edges of the floor down, and the walls, wheel well boxes, etc hold it all down as well. It works! Anyway, glad I found your channel and looking forward to more!
