Big rock exercises
I think training mirrors life. I like to use the idea of big rock exercises to guide training and help to organize it. You can’t make a program without knowing what matters. This little switch to a view point has helped me to keep in mind what’s important. If it helps you, use it. If not, forget I said anything.

Force-Velocity Profile
มุมมอง 2.7K2 ปีที่แล้ว
At the 2022 NSCA Coaches Conference, the instructions for how to do profiling in excel were not viewable. So instead of just posting the instructions, I thought I'd put together a tutorial of how to do it. I hope you find it useful. That being said, if you're like, "Now what?" That was the point of the rest of the talk by myself and Dr. Tim Suchomel. Please check out the NSCA materials, as I'm ...
How to know what shoes to squat in?

I was at our fitness center and saw someone who was strong, but their shoes didn't match their technique. I thought this stuff was on knowledge, so when leaving the gym I recorded a quick little video.
Velocity Based Training: From theory to application
มุมมอง 6K2 ปีที่แล้ว
We had a question pop up in my class on this paper I was involved in, so I thought I would create a video to explain it in greater detail. I hope you find some value in it. If you like the info, come join us at the U or feel free to check out some of my VBT related content, all of which are in my linktree in my bio.
Finer points of the APRE
มุมมอง 9513 ปีที่แล้ว
I often get questions about the APRE even still after all of these years. Most of the questions lie around warmups, adjustments, and the number of work sets. I quickly went over these here, but if you are looking for more education on this topic, please feel free to visit us at the U for our General S&C certificate.
Sprint Momentum
มุมมอง 5473 ปีที่แล้ว
As I have noticed some confusion with momentum, I wanted to do a quick video discussing it here. How/why did it matter and more importantly, I walk you through how to calculate it. I hope you enjoy this quick video and are able to implement this into your testing battery. I will be posting a follow up study to this once I get it published looking at sprint momentum to evaluate performance.

Sprint Force Velocity Profiling
มุมมอง 1.6K3 ปีที่แล้ว
This video is mostly something I recorded for my students, showing them what else they could do with timing data. Long story short, and as I say in this video many times- it doesn't take a lot of money to get priceless data. Thanks to the work of JB Morin and Pierre Samozino, that's what we have. If you have multiple timing gates and are going to run a sprint anyway, how about getting more info...
2 Pulls per push for shoulder health
มุมมอง 1.3K3 ปีที่แล้ว
It is common gymlore that for every press you do, you need to do 2 pulls to make sure your shoulders stay health. Many of us have said it, and even used it to guide our programs. Does this hold water though? Let's examine the anatomy and see.
The effect of APRE vs LP on strength improvement in college athletes

If you have heard of it, come and see the paper that started it all ;) If you like this sort of information, come and join us at th...

I think it's pretty cool, but then again, I may be alone on that one.

Here is a study from Wolfgang Taub. I love his stuff for explaining the why's and how's behind plyometrics. This is an extremely dense, yet amazingly well done study. I hope you get something from it. This is actually included in an upcoming coaches education course, so if you like it and are wanting to deep dive on plyometrics, come and joint us here at the U.

Hi Bryan Great video. Would measuring momentum be a wise idea for boxers seen that they are in weight classes and momentum is very important to punch power and if so would the same dash test be sufficient

    • @bryanmann5712
      @bryanmann5712 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

That’s a great question. It seems that with the weight classes it may remove the impact of mass for momentum. Also it seems that sprinting is less important for a boxer and thus may not be completely applicable. I could absolutely be wrong. I’d listen to someone by the likes of Duncan French as what would be best for a boxer. With the aqua bag and its punch meter, you may be best off with that as you can directly measure this aspect of performance rather than calculate/estimate

@@bryanmann5712 thank you for your reply. I feel that fast short sprints would have a great carry over because of the explosive hip/shoulder separation that's also used when throwing combos as well as single shots. It sounds like if you can carry more moment and stay the same weight it should carry over. Ok thanks I'll look him up. Keep up the great work

I find the per muscle group part quite interesting, i.e. for back would 2 horizontal and 2 vertical sets equal 4 or would the fact that the exercises are different enough mean that you would need 4 sets of each or perhaps is 3 of each a sweet spot. I suppose the generic question is, are sets always 100% additional for muscle groups? (chest, flat and incline, quads hip and knee flexion etc.) If this was the case why would anyone ever bother doing 4 sets of horizontal and verticle pulling, when two of each covers it.
