Quintessential Sail by the Gaspésie! - St. Lawrence Seaway Pt. 7
มุมมอง 5982 หลายเดือนก่อน
Just when we thought the Saint Lawrence River couldn't get more beautiful, we hit Gaspésie! Although we didn't stop along the way (due to weather windows and such) it was SO cool to see it from the water!! So beautiful. Wait till we hit Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine though...
Finding out our boat wasn't made for cold waters... - St. Lawrence Seaway Pt. 6
มุมมอง 1.3K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
We really enjoyed our stop in Baie-Comeau and stayed at the yacht club that was full of sailboats! Great facilities and a fun little town with a coffee shop and brewery - that's all you need in our books. We transited across the Saint Lawrence River from the North to South side in complete fog as well and arrived in Saint-Anne-des-Monts. They had a big superstore to replenish our groceries.

Navigating From Montreal to Quebec City! - St. Lawrence Seaway Pt. 4
มุมมอง 6592 หลายเดือนก่อน
Welcome back to our trip down the Saint Lawrence River! You'll notice that the weather seemed gloomy in the past few videos - this was actually due to the forest fires that the province of Quebec faced this summer. There were many grey days between Kingston and Quebec City but thankfully the weather started peaking through beyond Quebec City!
Picturesque Sailing on Lake Ontario - St. Lawrence Seaway Pt. 3
มุมมอง 7725 หลายเดือนก่อน
We took a couple days making our way from Kingston to Montreal! Stopped in the famous 'Thousand Islands' and were lucky that it wasn't too busy in June. We've been told it's hard to find and anchorage or dock space in July and August!

It's been a dream to explore Toronto via sailboat and we couldn't have been luckier staying at the Royal Canadian Yacht Club! We explored the Toronto Islands and made our way through the Bay of Quinte to Kingston. Had a little race as well with a fellow trimaran. :) Next up - the Thousand Islands in Lake Ontario!
Sailing Down the Welland Canal - St. Lawrence Seaway

Here's to the start of our 2 month sabbatical! We motored through lake Erie, down the Welland Canal and across lake Ontario to Toronto. We were so nervous to go through the 8 locks but it ended up being a great experience without any hiccups. :)

2 Minutes of Downwind Sailing on a Trimaran

Just wanted to share what it's like to sail in some particular wind conditions - first up, a wing-on-wing downwind setup! With 30 knot gusts we didn't want to have the main sail out so we opted to use our two furling headsails. Nice a steady in some pretty windy and wavy conditions!

How neat, you must have passed our island on your way to Brockville ! You would have loved to anchor near us as it is very sheltered and many sailboats do so. Did you have a chance to see the Brockville Railroad tunnel. We live in BV and love it !

Apples are better all round .. stay away from fruit juice. .. fresh dark green veg and high coloured veg. Soya milk keeps ... as do other alternatives. You may need to invest in a blow through diesel heater . Open cockpit boats are rubbish for protection ... You really need a full Bimini .. and cork is the safest greenest way of insulating above deck and below. If you want a lighter interior you can paint it with a bathroom emulsion .. it doesnt off gas so the little one wont suffer.. and it absorbs bumps and falls. A lot of European sailors use it inside their boats and as sea deck ...its fire retardent .. the smoke is non toxic ... Its also naturally anti bacterial and anti mould . You can buy tiles or rolls of various thicknesses and colours and textures. It will act as a barrier agains GRP fiber shedding. 🧙🏼‍♂️🇬🇧

Very nice video! Does you boat dismantle for transport? It looks like the cross beams could be unbolted from the amas and hulls? Comment on the roller furling jib. You need more leech tension, IE: pull the clew of the sail more downward than backward. The leech is the power of the sail, and yours looked a bit floppy. You can usually adjust the sheet attachment to the clew - they frequently have 4 - 5 holes, so pick the top one. Or if you're reaching, a downhaul will help.

    • @sailingunleaded
      @sailingunleaded 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

Hello! yes, the boat dismantles to get on a trailer. You can see it at the beginning of this video when we drove it from Detroit to Fort Lauderdale: th-cam.com/video/aFvnVXhGHzI/w-d-xo.html I agree on the jib setting. You probably also noticed that this sail is setup for going upwind, not for reaching and that those 2 point of sail require different sheeting angles. Let's say that we were more worried about not crashing the drone than optimizing the jib while filming and motor sailing.

Bummer - too short! Quebec City is amazing! It feels like a European city in France or Italy. I grew up in England as a kid as we had small cruising monohulls on the south coast we used to spend weekends on. An early Newick tri came through the Solent one day, a 60 footer with a huge rig (At least for the day). It was going 15 knots or so, and looked like something from another planet with the huge curved cross beams that look like birds wings. I suspect you will prefer your current accommodations to any Newick design! I am enjoying your journey!
