Oak Log to bowl
Last year I cut up some old oaks from our churches district camp grounds. and have had them in my shop. So I decided to further cut some and make a bowl out of it for a “Pastor Appreciation” gift for my Pastor and his wife. #woodworking #wood #lathe #turning #woodturning #bowls #woodbowl #maker #lathelife #diy #gift #giftideas #woodworker #handmade #woodshop #shoplife

A big question I get with turning pens with carbide is how many I can make? We’ll…. A lot. I recently had a 70 pen order (3 cracked before ever mounting so I ended up with 67). I wanted to see how many I could turn with one of the four edges before having to turn it. Well, I turned them all and never rotated. So, the answer, LOTS! And I never had to stop to sharpen. I really enjoyed your repair video. I sent you a note telling you that. I am having a problem that I decided to ask you. Do you have any experience with the tailstock? What’s wrong. Its EXTREMELY hard to extend the quill or retract it. At first it seemed to be when it reached the point where the automatic knockout would kick in. Now it’s even worse. I don’t know why? Yes I have contacted Laguna but I have not had a chance to really study the reply to my ask. I don’t know if I told you but I turn sitting in my wheelchair. I did turn today and now I am in a world of pain and it’s easier to ask than read. A question I have. Could I have bent something? What I did was this. I tried to get the big wood worm into the proper size hole. The problem was I was drying to bore into Brazilian Cherry? It’s what we put down in our home. It’s one of the hardest woods out there. I was cranking on the tailstock handle when I discovered that the Wood Worm was not cutting threads it was boreing a hole. In doing that could I have bent something? I also have recently waxed the quill. I am not sure if I can say that’s when it got worse but I was having trouble with it before I tried the wood worm. Yes I also recently did wax it fully extended but polished off really well. Tell me what you think. PLEASE. Also something I don’t like and I am looking for a reason as to “why”. The early version of the 1216 the power switch was Red/Green. These are standard international colors for On/Off. Stop/Go. Why on earth would you deviate from the standard and change to White over Black? Why did they do this? Then of all things make the spindle lock button RED. No one has been able to explain that to me because nobody knows. I tried to order a Red/Green switch thinking that White/Black was an older model because everything I looked at was Red/Green. If its not an expensive hard to do switch I am going to buy a second switch and then have one of my super star XEmployees paint it proper for me. Hey, thanks for your time and help.
