Hey Nina, great video. I have a question! If I have a bunch of keywords that can write on, within a cluster, I know which one is going to be my Pillar Post, but from the other keywords how do I decide which one could be a complete post itself, or should it just be an H2 within the Pillar post? Is it volume? I feel sometimes that if I write a post on a certain keyword it might be just repeating the info I have in the Pillar Post? Or do I have too much info in the Pillar post? (I have a tendancy to try to cover EVERYTHING in one post!) It makes my brain hurt! I hope that makes sense! Any thoughts appreciated :)

LOVE this! Since I started my site (Queer Film Reviews), I've felt like much of the SEO advice out there didn't fit; my audience is quite niche - and yes, reaching a wider audience is more a marketing problem! I write film reviews... so the keyword is almost always that film's title. Spinning it into something to boost SEO always felt weird whenever it didn't come naturally. Given that many of the old tactics are resulting in sites loosing traction with the various updates as of late, it's important to change tactics like you propose.

Thanks for this Nina. You mention SameAs schema. Can you tell me how I go about implementing this? I'm afraid I'm not adept at the technical aspect of blogging, for example things like embedding structured data within my HTML, anything like that. Is there a simple way to understand how to use SamAs schema?

most of those booking affiliates have very bad reviews which would effect your brand. if you can't deal directly with the company as an affiliate i wouldn't refer any of my people to these because they would lose trust in you.

This is such a good and helpful video! I was feeling down about my traffic but there are a lot less impressions now than before, so it seems seasonal. One question, though, why did this align with August 16th-ish, when the Google update started? Coincidence?

Thank you, this has made me feel infinitely better. On one of my guides, the impressions and clicks have fallen yet GSC shows the post has gained a position within the top 10 over the last 28 days! I feel a lot better and perhaps this is all seasonality - just waiting for my summer Southern Hemisphere views to kick in now

Hi Nina, Thank you so much for this video! I watched this one and the intro video by Dan at keysearch and between the two I got a pretty good understanding very fast. I was wondering, in SemRush they have a pretty cool keyword clustering tool called the Keyword Strategy tool. I can just put in One single KW and it pulls together and groups a ton of Kws and makes pillar pages and subpages and a mind map and I find a lot of easy KWs there. I want to ditch SemRush, it's too expensive and honestly I'm paying for stuff I don't need and it looks like Keysearch will get me all the basics plus a bit more, so I'm probably going to make the change. But do they do the keyword grouping ideas anywhere please? I saw a free clustering tool that doesn't seem to work and it looks like I have to provide all the KWs myself. I like the SemRush clustering tool because I just need ONE seed word and it makes this whole cluster map. I love it. Thank you again for your time and expertise, but easy to learn from videos!

Literally such a great explanation video with actionable steps. I initially thought I might have been hit by the update because my traffic has been lower over the last week or two, but after following the steps you showed I think I'm able to deduce that my traffic loss (and impressions loss without losing rankings--rankings actually slightly increased) is mostly likely because a lot of my content focuses on Alaska cruises (summer thing) and Mount Rainier National Park (also most popular in the summer). Working on putting out more content cover additional seasons! Thanks for another awesome video :)

Had this conversation with myself only last week. Panicked that I had been hit by the update a little, but then realised my main blog posts that rank highly and get alot of traffic are summer destinations, which are tailoring off. Checking the rankings and no shifts at all. Just seasonality. Fingers crossed my winter content starts to take the place of the summer 😅

Adding them on the homepage should work, hopefully. Since you said they are the starting point and from there the folks go on a kind of journey through the rest of the silo.

Great stuff Nina. Doug Cunnington put out a bunch of stuff on KWGR (Keyword Golden Ratio), pretty similar to zero search volume kw's. Also a system to 'find your proper' kw goals. Good stuff. PS: Shoulda been subbed already? Re-subbed! Yay!
