NHL Area: Mario Lemieux tribute song #nhl
This tribute song delves into the illustrious career of Mario Lemieux, also known as "Super Mario," This song celebrates one of hockey's best players by highlighting his extraordinary combination of size, strength, athleticism, and ingenuity. Relive the highlights of his Stanley Cup triumphs, MVP accolades, and record-breaking performances.
Song Lyrics:
"Super Mario" on the ice, a legend we admire,
His blend of strength and grace sets our hearts on fire.
Athletic prowess, creativity untamed,
One of the greatest, his legacy is famed.
It's amazing to see, someone so big move so fast,
Quick and graceful, his brilliance unsurpassed.
Lemieux led Pittsburgh to Stanley Cup fame,
Back-to-back wins, forever etched in the game's name.
Mario in his prime, the finest on the ice,
Healthy and strong, his play was precise.
Four times he claimed the Pearson Award,
Most outstanding, the players' top lord.
Three times the Hart Trophy, MVP supreme,
Six Art Ross Trophies, leading the points stream.
Second in history for goals-per-game,
A gifted player, in the hall of fame.
He ranks second, it's true, in career goals-per-game,
A testament to his skill, his indelible name.
Probably the most gifted the world has ever seen,
Super Mario, a hockey king, forever keen.
Probably the most gifted player the world has ever known,
In the hearts of fans, his legacy has grown.

I watched Limieux's last games in 2006. I didn't realize what I was watching at the time. But the way my dad talked about Mario and insisted I watch with him got me interested. And I did my own research. And I realized he had me watch the greatest athlete ever. And he will forever be Super Mario. I love the Mario games, but this real life human being is so incredible that he deserves that moniker more. Edit: I believe he would have shattered Gretzky's records if he didn't have injuries and literal cancer. Gretzky himself has said so too.

Lidstrom and Sundin are the only Swedes in Forsbergs league. Peters career being cut short by injury, I cant place him above Lidstrom as the greatest Swede. For a career Lidstrom just have to many achievements But in pure skill, at their peak, Peter Forsberg is probably the best. Not only as a Swede but probably a top10 player of all time, period.

@@daveyboy_ you just don't know the players on those Bs teams. my family had season tickets all those years so i saw many games in person. i could isolate on players and watch them closely. there were no youtube videos back then. my dad was an all american, my brother was playing college, and i went on to play junior and internationally against many future pros and olympians. we were an informed hockey family. the Bs had weak defensemen back then and very shaky goaltending. they racked up big numbers in the regular season, but were exposed during the playoffs. eddie johnston was , to put it kindly, a journeyman goaltender. who didn't he play for ? cheevers was flamboyant, but he could be beaten. in 68 and 69 the Bs were coming together as a team, but played against a HOF studded habs team that only moved in a player or two each year. in 71, dryden stole that series. the Bs did not play up to their potential, but they still outskated the habs over 7 games. i was at game 7 in boston. in the 73 playoffs, the Bs rolled out 44 year old goalie jacques plante ( 10 goals in two games ) , esposito missed the playoffs, and the Bs lost to a team they had beaten twice in two series over three years. in 74 the flyers played very well and bernie was lights out. that Bs team over that span, from 68 --74 always had some big personnel holes that most people didn't recognize. over that 7 years or so, the Bs lost a lot of talent to the expansion drafts and the WHA. sinden protected a lot of the wrong players, keeping veterans like eddie westfall and losing rick mc leish, parent, reggie leach and others through various botched personnel decisions. ( BTW, milt schmidt made the deal for esposito, hodge, stanfield, not sinden. ) the players played up to their potential almost always, but if you are rolling out plante, just a few games away from retirement, in the playoffs, then you screwed up somewhere. the Bs lost that chance for a dynasty at harry's desk.

I went to a game at LCA this season (24-25) for the first time in a while and have a 90's era CCM Yzerman jersey. I thought it might be a little weird wearing the jersey of a retired player (current GM of da Wings though) but I am pretty sure more than half of the jerseys I saw in the arena were #19 and, on top of that, they were still selling Yzerman jerseys there in the current design which I am pretty sure he never game wore. Stevie Y is a legend, if not revered as a deity, in the metro Detroit area.

I am not sure if people in the comments actually saw Mario play. Yes, he was incredible. Sometimes. And many times he did absolutely nothing. Going into CC 87 he had a reputation of being lazy. I think I saw a perfect summary of Gretz vs Mario in one of the forums: Maybe Mario in his best game was better than Gretzky in his. But Gretzky had way more good games. In my opinion this is the correct description.

There are 2 factors that makes Wayne Gretzky stand out from the other legends and it has to do with Gretzky size, and his genius vision on the ice to dodge injury for most of his career. This was a gift most other greats did not have like Bobby Orr, Mike Bossy, Mario Lemiuex, etc with their careers cut short, but Gretzky under normal circumstances should have been tossed around like a tennis ball in the rink, but his visual instinct kept him from major injuries. This in itself sets him apart and most other greats just did not have that prowess. #2, I never thought it was fair to compare players that play an entire 80 games or close to 80 games and players that only play half or more than half a season. Most players including Gretzky slow down and get fatigued usually in the last half of the season and their PPG reduces a bit. i never thought it was fair to compare players that play only 2/3 a season like Lemieux and then get injured their body was not in full fatigue factor like Gretzky was and had Gretzky played the exact same amount of games as Lemieux during a season his PPG total would be significantly higher. The fatigue factor makes a huge difference on points total and Lemieux took advantage of that.

Bowman is quite the stark contrast from Blake though, the latter was known as a player's coach, very much loved and respected by all his players, almost considered "one of the guys." I imagine it's because he happened to have Richard and Beliveau, around whom the rest of the team coalesced, making it easier to coach. Bowman never had such a leader of that stature on the ice, plus his game plan always changes, making him a bit of a feared character.

@@v4v819 Like I said earlier, Yzerman is a great leader, but not on the same level as Beliveau or Richard. Besides, by the 90s, Bowman mellowed his style considerably - probably in part because he had Yzerman, whom he did clash with early on, pressuring him to be more of a two-way player. Factions, you heard that right. Notwithstanding Yzerman's leadership, the Red Wings had a few natural factions, given the players' ethnic origins, a chunk from Russia, another chunk from Sweden, another from Canada. Bowman had to prevent these natural divisions from actually dividing the locker room. His 70s Habs had more personal factions, as there was no single locker room leader who could command the respect of the WHOLE team. Sure, they had Cournoyer, but they also had LaFleur and Robinson. It was too easy for all three of these guys (and others) to pull in their own respective direction, and rift the team. Yes, they were leaders, but not like Beliveau and Richard, and put all three on one team, rift. Even if they want to work together, they couldn't, not without a Bowman.
