A phenomenal singer, dude your nuts and have NO credibility, there’s a reason why Ken never sings any classic rock songs in the original key by Journey, AC/DC, Boston etc etc, he cant hit the notes along with his shouty tone and tongue showing terrible technique etc etc. Kens a average singer at best and should never be a singing teacher!
GOOD JOB! I ENJOYED YOUR VERY PHYSICAL APPROACH TO THIS HIT. ALSO, AS YOU KNOW IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO USE THAT MUCH ENERGY TO SING THAT TUNE FOR SOMEONE NOT AS PHYSICALLY STRONG LIKE YOU ARE.
Nice tribute.
Fuck yeah dude, thanks!!
Love this 🤘 well done!!

I mean... I'm not like that NOW. But that aside, nah, not on the spectrum, just a regular kid who listened to too much Beethoven and read too much Dostoyevsky.
I did develop a food strong voice following ken but I still had pitch issues following his program so now o found out SOVT is better and hybrid techniques is good
What is SOVT?
@ semi occluded vocal techniques using straw to practice scales it has helped me recover from Ken’s open throat lah vowel all the time
fucking cool!
Siegfried: **takes half a second to write two words of encouragement** Me: "OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD, SIEGFRIED APPROVES OF SOMETHING I DID WITH SINGING. MY ENTIRE LIFE IS VALIDATED."
Pro tip, you don’t need a pop filter when singing through a handheld dynamic mic. They have a built in pop filter 😉
This is actually just my makeshift visual setup for lip-syncing. I actually track these in the same lockout and with the same gear that I use to record our album tracks. You see, Ken Tamplin? You see how easy that is to admit?
@ oh dude then why have a pop filter at all? Covering half your face lol.
built in pop filter on hand held mic isn't enough sometimes.
Mostly just a comfort thing I guess. I don't have the confidence to the Dan Vasc thing where you stand in front of a green screen, looking seductively into the camera like a Pantene Pro-V model, so I guess I feel an obligation to try and make it look as authentically "live/one take" as possible. It's not the most rational thing in the world, but it is what it is.
Crushed it man!
Chemtrails are real. I bet you're fully vaxxed.

It's aight.....
This is going to sound lame as shit, but I suppose it's a question I should be asking, so I am. I was a multi-instrumentalist who wanted to record his own stuff but a ten-month-long undiagnosed whooping cough something like thirteen years ago killed my voice to the point where I could barely speak let alone sing. So I stopped doing what I would normally do, which was singing along to my favourite bands while I worked. Not to be a singer, just to enjoy the music and make the time pass faster. When I decided to do my own albums, I needed to train my voice to get past the damage done by the whooping cough. Even though it was years later, the damage was still evident. Anyway, I eventually taught myself how to get past it and developed an okay singing voice - enough to record my three solo albums. But then I joined a band, which meant weekly rehearsals and singing stuff written by the other guys rather than by me. That was three years ago, and I get complimented all the time on my voice... but it bothers me that I don't know HOW to sing. I just sing. I don't know the difference between head and chest. I hadn't heard of belcanto or however you spell it until your video today. Same with bridging and all that other stuff. Is it important to know this? Would it help me if I understood what was happening inside when I sang? I'm still not a confident singer, despite all the praise. Probably because I was never "a singer" and was always mainly a guitarist. So it still feels weird to me. Long, tedious question shortened - does it benefit you to know how and why you do things or is it okay to just do them? I want to sing with confidence. I want to feel like I'm supposed to be a vocalist, rather than someone who just sings.
So, this is actually a very, very good question. On the one hand, it sounds like what you're doing is working! If people like your singing then at the end of the day you've accomplished what you've set out to accomplish. Absolutely not a single person has ever said "Motorhead would be way better if Lemmy was a classically trained singer". On the other hand, it sounds like your vocal folds probably sustained a lot of damage when you had whooping cough, and knowing proper technique is gonna make circumnavigating that A LOT easier and more effective. Plus it'll add years and decades to your being able to sing, as vocal longevity is one of the biggest benefits to learning proper technique. I guess all this is to say that: it's probably not strictly necessary, but knowing more is always better than knowing less.
@ANUBISMETAL Yeah, I think that's what I'm most concerned about. The fact that I've only actually been singing for three years but I'm in my 50s has me thinking that I need to take steps to preserve what I have at the moment. I'll be honest, I had Ken's course for a year and didn't really find any benefit so I never went back to it. I've also tried to find vocal tutors in my area (as I'd much prefer a one-on-one session) and had no luck. I don't want to find myself losing the ability a year or two down the line. This is me just now: th-cam.com/video/N2n7Mw1GhGw/w-d-xo.html I have no idea what the ceiling note is in the song but I know I've increased my range in the past year by three semitones to an E5. It's just a question of whether that'll last or be short-lived. Really appreciate you answering and taking the time out 🤘
Wow amazing
Thanks man!!
Ken tamplin is a terrible singer bro. It just sounds awful. And you say you don't care about him faking it? Yeah, okay.
I said that I don't care about him lip-syncing in his online covers. The purpose of which is usually to showcase your INTERPRETATION of a song, not to demonstrate what you can do in one take.
As a rock singer i have never been aware of these different techniques . After hearing the definitions I realize I use both depending on the piece , to create more dynamics in a song . I do a few songs that start out as a whisper and end quite different . This guy is self taught teacher and singer , so this what you get
I think that even assumes that the "whisper" is what is taught in SLS. That's what guys like Ken want you to think, but it's not true at all.
Ken is not self taught. He often brags about the vocal coaches he has studied under. Supposedly by his own admission he has been classically trained in opera.
Fantastic analysis, you earned yourself a new subscriber here. I'm 54-year-old who still loves classic metal but no longer identifies as a "metalhead" for various reasons (mainly the cringy, juvenile mentality of so many metal fans). Your perspective is refreshingly mature and very welcome. 🤘
Why, thank you!! Also, I find that the cringy metalheads tend to be overrepresented online. In real life, I find that most of them tend to be exceptionally cool, open-minded, and down-to-earth.
Nailed it!
Hammered it 😎
Nice!
I can listen to Load, but i dont like all of it. I cant make it past the third song on Risk. King Nothing and Until It Sleeps are great songs. I hated that era of Metallica in the 90s, but being older i can appreciate it now. I still hate the image change. Plus having read their official biography, and reading interviews with James, I understand more the motivations for those albums, and not everyone was on board for it. I can also appreciate Metallica changing more now because they werent releasing the same thing over and over like their peers seem content to do. I love classic 80s thrash and how in transports me back to being a teenager, but modern thrash albums bore me. I dont like the newer albums from Testament, Death Angel, Exodus, or Megadeth. Only Sodom, Kreator, and Voivod still excites.
The thing about Risk is that it's frontloaded with all the worst songs. If you start at "I'll Be There" (song 6, i think... maybe later if there are any interlude tracks), it's a much easier listen (provided you're in an open-minded mood). At the very least, check out the last two songs "Time 1 and 2", those are legitimately phenomenal by any standards. Testament's newest stuff isn't the most interesting shit ever recorded, but "Dark Roots of Earth" is a bloody phenomenal album.
@@ANUBISMETAL Dark Roots was really good. That was the last one I really liked. Part of the problem is I don't like the modern production sound of new thrash, and everyone is releasing these really long booated thrash albums 60+ minutes is too long. Thrash albums should be between 35-45 minutes.
@@Gregbaltzer HAAAAAAAAAAAARD agree about album length. 30-35 minutes is perfect. An hour is way too long unless the music is way more dynamic than most thrash bands are interested in.
As someone who was huge into thrash in the 80s by the early 90s I was completely bored of it. I remember hearing White Zombie and they sounded so fresh. In the 90s the only thrash bands i still listened to were Slayer and Sepultura. The 90s was a great time in metal for me. The 80s was so meat and potatoes with very few styles, but in the 90s you had Groove, Black, Death, Industrial, Alternative, thrash, Hardcore, Grindcore, and Nu Metal. I sold pretty much all my thrash metal cassettes. I was into Machinehead, Slayer, Sepultura, Obituary, Entombed, Carcass, Godflesh, Danzig m, Cathedral, Rollins Band, Mororhead, Biohazard, Agnostic Front, Bad Brains, Sick of it All, Gwar, and Fear Factory. I started getting back into thrash in the early 2000s when Testament, Exodus, and Death Angel reformed. Initially i loved their comeback albums, and i kept buying their new stuff, but then i realized i loved the classic stuff, but the new stuff doesnt do anything for me.
YEP, pretty much every word of this is on fucking point.
One of the best covers I've heard on YT, and I listen to a lot. Phenomenal job and great voice! 🤘
Awwww, thanks man - that's a pretty serious co.pliment!!
You try to hard..it just sucks. if you like load you suck if you have explain why load sucks then you are probably one of those dudes that wears cool band tees..load sucks. What else do you need..
Nice shirt, I'm seeing them again on the 5th November. Oh the Bass was epic. 👍
Niccccccce!!!
Of all the bands you discussed here, I feel like no one band tarnished their legacy more than Morbid Angel did in 2011 by releasing the absolute atrocity that is Illud Divinum Insanus. The 9/11 of metal albums.
"Monkey paw..... I wish for David Vincent to rejoin Morbid Angel and make their first new album together in 15 years!" "Your wish is my command."
If the production on Load and ReLoad would’ve sounded more similar to the Black Album, no one would’ve batted an eye. There are tons of great songs on those albums… but the music SOUNDED smaller, which I think was the most irritating part. It’s tough to bring your audience from the biggest sounding album IN THE HISTORY OF MUSIC to anything that is “smaller-sounding” no matter how good the actual songs are.
There's definitely an element of that, absolutely. It's pretty unavoidable though that on the Black Album, a song like 2X4, Mama Said, or Poor Twisted Me would have stuck out like a sore thumb (more like a thumb mutilated by industrial machinery). I actually feel the opposite about TBA that I feel about the Loads - the big hits are phenomenal, but the deep cuts are some of the weakest songs of Metallica's career until St. Anger.
The image was the hardest thing to deal with. Tons of bands changed their sound in the 90s, but Metallica looked like a bunch of d#$chbags caught up in the excess of fame. They lost their one of us appeal that they had in the 80s. They look and acted like rock stars. That was the hardest pill to swallow.
@Gregbaltzer Yeah, that's probably pretty accurate. If they kept the metal image it's hard to image that Load and Reload would have been as earth-shatteringly controversial as they were. Someone I know put it best on Metallica's '90s look: "they look like undercover narcs who aren't quite pulling it off".
Неплохой вариант, Дио бы заценил!
My musical evolution consists of 50’s and 60’s rock n’ roll that my parents listened to, and played in their band. Classical music that I was taught on piano around age 6, mid to late 80’s rap like NWA and 2 Live Crew & cheesedick hair metal on MTV that my babysitter exposed me to, and then Metallica and Faith No More found their way into my all accepting 9 year old ear hole. Since that moment I continued to seek out harder and faster music, Nirvana came along which I loved until discovering death metal around 1993 when I was 13. Bands like Slayer and Iron Maiden seemed soft compared to Deicide and Cannibal Corpse, so when these larger bands started softening their sound and image it only led me to seek out more and more extreme music. I can honestly say that I have them to thank for all the wonderful music they pushed me into. The downfall of Metallica was truly a blessing 🤘
AMAZING! I feel the exact same way. I totally disagreed with Ken and lost some respect for him for not being able to see any good in speech level singing. I thought if Seth Riggs finds value in it then it must have some value. The problem is I was learning it but felt unsure about it because of Ken Tamplin. You did a great job debunking Ken about SLS!
Eilish isn''t even a singer, anybody can do that whisper autotune crap.
Nah, I'm not on board with "**name of popular artist** isn't real music/a real musician" rhetoric. If you listen to a song like "Happier Than Ever", she's clearly a fantastic singer. Even the whisper-y stuff, it's not the case that ANYONE can do it. It's possible that it takes fewer practice hours to develop than powerful, belting metal vocals, but it requires a sense of nuance that most singers will never have without being properly trained for specifically that. I have friends whose style is closer to the Billie Eilish style, who I consider able to sing CIRCLES around me.
@@ANUBISMETAL It's not rhetoric. Even her brother said her vocals are all pieced together and tuned in the studio, sometimes splicing one word at a time into the phrase until it's perfect. She's a performer, not a singer. It's 99% studio.
@@Drew_Snydermann That's pretty much the standard for how vocals are recorded. The overwhelming majority of professional singers record that exact way. Meanwhile, this is how she sounds live: th-cam.com/video/tQkT6bry_2U/w-d-xo.htmlsi=M-JQPS0hxaXlX0dU You may not like her music (I'd obviously be lying if I said that she appeared heavily in my own personal rotation), but claiming that she's "not a singer" is just asinine.
@@ANUBISMETAL Not only can't she sing she can't lip synch well either. Did you even watch that video?
@@Drew_Snydermann Lol, ok.
If he had simply ignored the Wings of Pegasus analysis or simply explained that would have been it but attempting to debunk Fil Henley as a fake, a troll and a click baiter was ridiculous. Well now Ken, who I had never heard of, is getting his just deserts. He is blatantly lying about everything in his stupid rebuttal which of course lead to Fil having to respond and guess what? He was also found faking his "live" guitar example, even playing a note that don't exist on a Squire. I really hope and pray those watching all this aren't so gullible as to fork out around AUD $1330 for a "USB" course. Claims like "HOW TO SING BETTER THAN ANYONE ELSE" and "The most powerful and effective singing lessons in the world." should be immediate red flags.
Is he really charging $1330 for it now? When I bought it I paid just shy of $300. No way is it worth 1.3K, not in a million years.
@@ANUBISMETAL Yes Currently USD $899 (AUD $1330) on his website. But to be fair it's one of ... "Three Ways To Start Singing Better Than Anyone Else" 😆😂 EDIT: The Australian dollar doesn't buy much in USA so even worse!😢😭🤠
Ah is the worst sound! Seth explains it in one video, the dangers of a too open sound, it wears down your voice quickly!
I mean, generally speaking I think singers should be going for as open a sound as they can get based on context and vowel sound. My personal experienc3 is that the more open my sound is, the LESS it wears down my voice.
@@ANUBISMETAL Well, to be precise, what I am talking about is the widespread mouth, which in my opinion wears down your voice. You could check out Seth Riggs take on Adele's singing. It is on youtube. Now, I know that people have issues with sls. However, I think he was onto something vital. Furthermore, what is a so called "open" sound is quite controversial, and maybe not scientifically what we like to believe. This is shown by a guy on youtube, Dr. Dan, that proves that an i is actually a more open sound than a. Believe it or not. I could go on for long about this, but in short, the voice is highly complex.
Love the cover. You have a great sounding grit in there. A little hint of snowy shaw if that makes sense. Great job!
Thank you!! And yeah, of course, that makes perfect sense 😎
Krisiun hail death metal 🤘🤘🤘
Fucking a!! Krisiun is one of my personal "big 4" of death metal (the other 3: Vader, Hate Eternal, and Severed Savior).

I bet you'll get a Lawyers LETTER from kens pretend solicitors now😅. How dare you speak out on the GREAT tamplin techniques and his round earth theory 😅😅
I think the more likely consequence is going to be "students" of his coming out of the woodwork with long, elaborate rants that read SUSPICIOUSLY like carefully constructed advertisements for his program ("I'm just some regular, ordinary guy, and lemmie tell you, KTVA will take YOUR singing to the NEXT LEVEL"). Which, spoiler alert, check this whole comment thread 😉

enjoyed that mate,i totally disagree with ken can sing, horrible tone, strained, weird pronouncing of words(tongue hahaha) sounds like a duck being run over by a truck, actually their is someone just as bad, robert lunte, most great singers never had a single lesson, they learned themselves!!!!
Great video! Building a strong chest voice as a basis is good advice but relying on it too much is extremely limiting. Learning how to bridge early is absolutely crucial to adapt to so many different variables like the current state of your voice, the loudness of the music you're singing to and the room you're in. I tried to push the limit of my chest voice for way too long but ended up losing my low range and got hoarse. Using both techniques in a flexible way saves you from a lot of frustration and health issues and it improves your tone in the long run.
Yep, bingo!
For singing like you speak watch Matt Monro he would sing Ken off the planet
I can say when I started my vocal journey back in 2010 I started taking lesson locally. I have no idea what he was teaching but it was a slow process. I started looking around and came across singing success by Bret manning. I study his stuff for like a year. I was getting better but still the process seemed slow. Not once did his program talk about diagrammatic support. I kept hearing people say stuff about singing from your diagram but yet nobody could tell me what that was or how that was supposed to feel. In 2012 I can across Ken Tamplin. It took no time for me to start singing better, stronger and with better pitch. Finally someone who could teach me what that support mechanism was all about. Finally someone who taught me how to navigate through my breaks. Personally I think you’re wrong on your assessment of the vowels that Ken teaches. Yes he does state and emphasize the ah vowel but when comes to E I have no problems with it. You do have to learn to modify it but not all vowels modify to the Ah vowel. I don’t have any problem going through my breaking point late or early using his technique. He demonstrates many styles and techniques. I will say with sls I was ok but weak. With Tamplin I can finally sing Dio type stuff and turn around and sing Eagles or Skynrd. I still have all my sls programs but have not even bothered with them in ages. You are right. If you want that powerful rock voice KTVA is the way to get there. At the same time you can also sing with finesse using his method no problem. All guh guh guh exercises and such did nothing but teach me how to chew on my Constance’s and choke on them in my higher range. Open throat taught me how to navigate them. If you do it right nobody can tell. Listen to many in the box. Lane is clearly using open throat. He is so extreme with his vowel mods. Instead of Jesus he is saying jaysus etc.
Mister Ken Tamplin, ladies and gentlemen.
@@ANUBISMETALhaha far from it. I would never lip sync live. In a video with a studio recording. Why not. MTV made a fortune with it. To demonstrate proper technique that would be a shame. I will say the dude is in his 60s. I am sure his voice isn’t where it used to be to be. Hats off to guys like Sammy Hagar. The dude is in his 70s. He still goes out live without lip syncing. All though he doesn’t sound as good as he did 10 or 15 years ago. He can’t hit those notes like he used to to either. I guess Ken has backed himself in a corner years ago with the saying the proof is in the singing and maybe he can’t let go of his vanity so he does what he does. It doesn’t discount his program. I know I have personally benefited from it.
