How can you compare this camera to IP15 ? Some people say Ip15 can have better photos !

PanaLeica is a class all of its own and in particular, the LX5 is a beautiful compact camera…and the Elmarit Vario Summicron lens is what attracts people to photography with the Leica heritage. Nice review! 😊

Can you mount a filter on the lens? If yes what diameter is the threading? I believe they used to sell macro/wide angle adaptors for the g3 but I’m not sure what mounting system they used. Would love to find out :)

Does it have a picture profile settings?

GF series including GF2, GF3, GF5 are probably a bit under rated now and therefore generally good deals used. An there are lots of good used M43 lenses for them. Get one as a spare body to your prime GX1 or GX7. All are good deals now. Of course they do have their quirks, the older 12mp sensor wasn't great at high ISO although the GF5 isn't too bad. Nicely done video.

Bought one new when they first came out and still use it regularly today - even more so than my Leica M Rangefinder kit !

I’ve owned one of these since new in 2011. It still looks like new and still takes great images. It’s arguably one of the best cameras I’ve ever owned and still own. It has been my go to, go anywhere camera. I’ve owned many cameras over the years and mainly use Fuji xt cameras, but this lx5 is quite simply fab!

In your opinion, does it still make sense to buy it new today for 350 euros?

great to come across this video, im considering the gf3, lx5, samsung ex-1. Does this camera have interesting filter effects? And can it do multiple exposures?

BAFFLING????? THE TECHNOLOGY WS NOT THERE YET. THE OPTICAL VIEWFINDER IS MUCH MUCH BETTER THAN EVF, AND THE LCD WAS AT THAT TIME WAS ONE THAT'S AVAILABLE. THIS REVIEW IS SO STUPID MAN.

i bought this camera for my dad when it came out, he still has it and loves it like no other. sadly some things are not quite functioning on it with the SD card being not detected around 50% of the time.

I loved mine, until the rear wheel stopped responding. But the IQ is excellent! Even now I occasionally revisit some of the RAW files and process with the latest software (PS and Topaz) and the files just get better. I also love the fast lens and the very small form factor. I eventually replaced it with my Pentax MX-1 compact camera which is a bit better overall, with retro looks, but it is a tad bigger due to things like tilting screen. But the LX-5 is still a little gem of a camera, and if I can get it working again, I will probably start using it again when I don't want or need to carry my FF DSLR around. Great video BTW.

Great review! I bought a mint Powershot G2 for 70 bucks earlier this year. I create my own filmlike ICC profiles for it in Capture One with a Colorchecker SG and now the colors are really awesome while Capture One just desaturates almost all hues to make the RAWs look completely dull. I can even create profiles to make its color rendering look like any modern mirrorless camera. The RAW files can be upressed with Lightroom super resolution with incredibly good results. The dynamic range is surpisingly good and the lens is ultra sharp and has beautiful character. It's my most used camera nowadays, before I would lug around my Canon R5 and lenses sometimes along with a Pentax 67. Now I just grab the G2 and it's so fun and creative. Plus I avoid the back pain from all the lugging around camera gear. Now, I am tempted to get a G3 too, but just got a 3MP Nikon Coolpix 990, which shoots TIFFs with stunning color straight out of the camera and has a swivel lens/screen design which has no equal in today's modern cameras. The early digicams had so much user friendly and practical innovation which has been lost. Today it's all about pixel peeping and plastic noise free images.

Great review. Very practical perspective. I just picked up an LX5 as I got caught up in the CCD hype. I also have the Leica D-LUX 6 (LX7). I’m thinking of selling the Leica as I don’t need two compacts sitting around, but I worry I will miss it someday. Which one would you all keep?

I bought this camera 5 years ago at a Goodwill for $15. The pictures look like sharp film shots once processed, and I can’t tell the difference half the time between the pics from this and my Leica X2, at least when swiping by on an iPhone.

I just got this camera but I have a problem: When i make pictures outside they are mega overexposed. It doesnt help when i change the Shutterspead or whatever. When im making pictures inside its fine. Can someone help?

Just found an immaculate one one ebay for $60 in the box like brand new!! What gets overlooked is the 35 to 140mm lens thats an f2 to f3. Thats noteworthy. Also the iso ratings are way conservative. So iso 100 is really iso 200ish For a 21 yr old cam is pretty darn good. AND... the fact that the lower A series models are going for more than double the price is crazy because they are not as good in everyway

Nice review, looks great. I have the LX3, which is basically the Leica D-Lux 4, and I love it. Also have the FX01 (Leica C-Lux 1) and really love that as well. Toobad these cameras have shot up in price so much recently.

In 2023 This is all you need for hobby photography or family/vacation photo documenting. The balance between soft and sharp at 4mp to 6mp is perfect. Pleasing to the eye and the colors this produces are wonderful.

I like my GF2 but it now refuses to accept an SD card. It was a handy little camera. Annoying!

Love this camera, got it with 14mm f2.5 for $35 without battery and changer, added $15 more, and I'm really happy.

I was stupid enough to sell this camera, and it is maybe the best small camera I ever took photographs with, and yes...I am now searching to buy this camera. Life is strange. Nostalgy is kicking in heavily.

Based on your review of the LX5 ended up going with the LX7 & it's such an amazing little camera and lens that flies under the radar of the Fujifilm hype ~ 🙏🙏 this gf2 looks really neat too!!

I would like to ask, about the change of sensor from CCD on LX5 to CMOS on LX7, what difference it makes? I like the aperture on the LX7 but still dont know about the sensor.

Bought my daughter one of these way back when first released. I still remember it and rate it very highly. I'm a stills shooter not video so no comment about that side. But I'd gladly still use it today, alas she sold it to get a more VLOG friendly model ie. flippable viewing screen
