This is by far the best Evangelion video on TH-cam. My biggest gripe however is the thesis. I think it's abundantly apparent that NGE is overwhelmingly nihilistic and misanthropic. I just don't get how people pull inspirational takeaways from the series. It's like they're watching things that aren't there. "Just never give up and you'll get the powers of God, bro." Are you fucking insane. Am I the only one who knows how crazy this sounds? Also the waifu argument makes no sense. He dismisses Rei 3 for the same reason why he thinks Asuka is great and doesn't understand the hypocrisy. Asuka isn't a "blank slate" but he's still choses her because she's broken, desperate, and moldable which is why he said you're a freak if you like Rei 2.

A hill I'll die on about what makes GaoGaiGar great is that it recognizes its genre's tropes and uses them with common sense without spiting on them. The main robot looks invincible and barely takes any damage like in every other super robot anime? Second episode in, in the command room they actually comment that since it was never actually deployed there are flaws in the combination system, showing a WRECKED upper arm part that was broken by the g-forces BESIDE the rest of the internal damages that happened in battle, and they will need to fix that, both in the mechanical and software side of things. The hero's father looks like an overly peppy old man? In truth he's just taking responsibility for what he believes are his failings and his doing his best to match his son's determination. I could go on and spoil the hell out of a lot of nice details, but I'll restrain myself if anyone wants to check out the series, and sorry for the slight wall of text.

Managed to watch the whole of GaoGaiGar, along with Final, and I absolutely love it. Exactly the amount of ridiculous that I enjoy, but there is one, massive downside to the series: the overwhelming use of flashing ligths. Had a massive migraine from watching it, but I couldn't stop due to the story. So here's a warning: If you have epilepsy, the theme song is your warning to close the screen. If you suffer from migraines, have some meds close.

So when i watched eva, we had the anime ending, death and rebirth, and end of eva, now we also have reboot, I have no idea where death and rebirth fit in

Although, here's my opinions for the Best Girl Debate: For Rei 2, she's cool, although my intentions were NOT what you specified, i just wanted a lonely girl with emotionless expressions, because, well, she's literally me, fr!!! For Asuka, you got a fair point, she's probably the best one And for Misato, she wouldn't be the Best Girl, she would be the Best WIFE, that's why she isn't even meant to be in this debate. Out of all, Ramiel wins, so get all these girls out and let me belove my favorite non-euclidead geometrical shape, especially her ultra-mega lasers...

It took itself seriously, it had engaging character who though not the deepest nonetheless all had something compelling about them be they hero or villain, and it managed to balance a message of the importance of kindness, compassion and honor, while not falling into the trap that so many of the later shonen series that followed would fall into. You know the ones, series where "Defeat equals friendship" meant no consequences for horrible, horrible actions. No, though Ken often came to forgive his enemies or st least ended their encounters with some level of respect for them, pretty much all of them died. No death is cheap here. In other words, it had genuine pathos, and despite the ludicrous feats and events, it manages to feel real in a way most modern shonen dont. Also, while Kenshiro is a great protagonist, the thing that makes him really work, is that his entire personality is at odds with his setting, thus all his conflicts feel logical, dynamic and real. Its something a lot of post apokalypse stories that tries to be Fist fails to understand. Having a protagonist who fits right in with the wasteland setting does not by definition make for an engaging story, but put someone with morals and convictions, who is genuinely likeable, and put him in a setting where might makes right, you immediatly get a story where your protagonist FEELS like an underdog despite rarely being actually threatened with a fight he can lose. Kenshiro almost always wins his fights, but often the people he tried to protect end up killed or crushed, and he has to respond to that. Add in all the family dynamics and rivalries, and it all comes together.

I’m like 12 minutes in and I’m glad to see someone actually acknowledging what happens literally in the STORY. It’s a story. People get so caught up in what it means, you know? It gets suffocating. Like, the meaning is important. I would never say it isn’t. But why the disregard for plot? That’s what really disturbed me about End of Evangelion. Nobody ever talks about the stupid plotty shit in the first half. That doesn’t even matter to people. Well it matters to me. I consider that shit before I call it the best movie ever or whatever. Geez.
