🌊 Welcome to Sailing Joa, I'm Hyaejin, and this is Sergio, and together we're the souls behind this sailing vlog.
🌍 We're here to bring you along on our extraordinary journey exploring the sea from the unique perspective of our small floating home. We can't wait to share our stories with you.
⛵️ But, ah, let's not forget the adventures that we already had in the passed! Previously we were sailing on a Oyster 35, Picture this: losing a propeller, windless days, and a mesmerising encounter with a pod of pilot whales during a fantastic sunset. Raw, unfiltered magic that life on the water offers.
Recently we got a new project pocket catamaran, its a Edel cat 33 from 1986.
🔧 Now, I won't lie - maintaining a floating home isn't all smooth sailing. It's like taking care of a tiny city that rocks with the sea! - the fewer the systems, the fewer the worries.
Our golden rule: if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
⛵️ Get ready to join us! Let's set sail, together.
warm hugs,
Hyaejin & Sergio 🌅💙

Sealing the Deal on Our Catamaran Ep.02 (4K)
If you take a line from the jib clew to the gunwale it will hold it out in a better shape and more stable when running. Same but easier to using a pole. Attach with a slip knot
New jib look great …but beware, it looks like there is no angle between the halyard and the forestay at the head swivel. If this is so the halyard will wrap around the forestay. There should be an eye fitting a short way below where the halyard exits the mast.
I love your boat & your video is beautiful. Please be safe
Back your anchor in by motoring in reverse, so check it holds. As you have a small motor, if it is going to blow, first attach anchor to the stern a motor ahead, gradually onto full power. Then transfer ancho rode to bow.
When moving off a pontoon, use a rope loop from the outboard hull stern to spring off. As you put your thrust into forward it should turn the boat to face away from the pontoon.
So jealous of your new headsail! Mine is well past its best..sure doesn’t help trying to get upwind…and just in from a 12hr slog up a Scottish loch…wind on the nose the whole way
Nice first sail, well done
without a main sail with only a jib you loose speed because the boat is not balanced. It is heavy on the stick because you compensate longitudinal unbalance thus you also break the boat momentum.
One thing that we discovered during this shakedown is that we could not put any reefs, the reef clues are too far from the rams horn. So that’s one thing to fix! So we decided to go only with the head sail, and yes it makes everything so much harder 😩
@@sailingjoadon’t understand this, perhaps you are doing it wrong? You put the clew over the horn before tensioning the outhaul. And before that lift the boom high with the topping lift. (Just discovered this on my cat)
Well-done... The waters in the med can be very confused even small choppy waves can make you feel ill but at least you were not rocking around like on a monohull. See where Wildings went with their old catameran and also where the Sailing Yorkshireman was based ..its hidden in the Calanques somewhere not far away..
Thanks Clive, we will check that out 🫡
Beautiful area! Wonderful video. 😎❤️🥰
It is a great coastal area☺️

I’m living in Marseille, would love to meet you guys id you are still around !
Beautiful footage guys. You're so funny to watch and I really.enjoyed this episode. Gorgeous footage of the sun glimting on the waves.!. The new headsail looks great. ❤
Thank you 🙏 we will see you soon ☺️
I love watching your videos . Every part is enjoyable. I had to rewatch and pause the catamaran in the boat show many times just to marvel at the size of that airconditioning unit installed.on the back !! Thats a first. Never seen anything like that in the Med ! Very apartmentey 😅
AC is the standard over there, on a boat it must consume lots of energy 🙄
Really nice sail i litel curious about the main sail houw it will perform thanks for the video ❤
Yes, just before we were leaving we realized that we could not put reefs, that is the reason for the shakedown 😅 we will fix this soon
❤❤❤👍
😊
반갑습니다 아름답고 조아요. 어디서 본듯한 아줌마 모자 최고예요. 흐흐흐~
아줌마 모자가 최고입니다 😆ㅋㅋi love it !
Well done after all that work. Nothing wrong with a manual windlass, especially on a smaller yacht where the anchor is likely to be smaller... KISS principle, much less to go wrong and maintain.
We like that “KISS” our anchor is 15 kilos maybe a bit big for the boat 😅
Very good!
Glad to see your Joa has returned to the sea. where she belongs..
:)
Excellent

Congrats on your first sail and anchorage.... I found your channel two days ago and have watched all your videos from the beginning... I'm amazed at all the hard work the two of you put into getting JOA ready for sail... A couple of suggestions for future videos... I'd love to know how you two met and came to be sailors... you seem like an unlikely couple to be sailing in France... also, We havent seen a real "Tour" video of the JOA showing her interior layout, and all her amenities... ps. glad to see your subscriber count is going up... keep up the great videos...
Hello, your are very welcome to our small channel 😊 good suggestions, we will put them in the to do list 😅 thanks for watching 🥰
Congratulations on launching JOA.. its been fun watching the you both learn and grow on your boat refurbishment journey... I can't wait to see the next steps on getting her under way and future improvements...
즐거운 항해와 함께 축하 드려요. 꽃길만 쭈욱 바랄께요~~
감사해요 😊
How come only one hull is being re-fiber glassed? Was the other one in good shape?
Yes, the other is in good shape 😊
You've put in a lot of work 🙂 Hope you get a bit of fun on the water before the season ends 🤞 👍
What season! I have just had my cruise on my 8.5m catamaran I have been repairing all year…and it is October…and in Scotland! (Have to admit she will be put to bed soon)
So happy for you! (And a bit jealous. 😆) Congratulations! 😎🥰❤️
It’s been allot of work to get here, but worth it ☺️🍻🫶
@@sailingjoa 😎❤️
I loved seeing the smiles of pure joy on your faces, well done guys, my only worry for you guys is that small 8hp outboard, 🎉🎊
We also thought that is not enough but the 8hp works very well for this boat. But clearly two diesel engines would be better 😅
If you cannot afford fenders grab some old tyres. .. like the fishing boats.. it will protect your GRP from concrete scrapes. But wrap it with tape at 12, 3, 6, 9 to reduce hull marking 👍🏻🧙🏻♂️ or carry a plank you can hang along side that can also use for boarding. An idea? For cooking peppers use a gas jet burner gun in a metal bowl. Be careful. Good to see you sailing out on the water . 🫡🧙🏻♂️🇬🇧
Hello Clive😃, our problem is not the wall, the problem is the other side. At the moment we only prepared fenders for the wall and forgot that other boats that come to dock with 40 knots of wind. That sounds interesting and more efficient way to burn the peppers!
@@sailingjoa Put your fenders outboard if you want but old tyres hang flat against the boat sides and don't Mind damage .. and are less likely to get pushed out the way exposing the hull . By gas jet burner I meant a butane blow torch. Professional chefs use them for doing some flamed finished dishes. You can use an open pan to burn the peppers on that way and it won't block your gas stove jets 👍🏻.🧙🏻♂️
And it will keep other boats away! ps, you need to drape a cloth between your boat and hull…but exposed on the outside
Your first baby steps 😃 enjoy 😃🍻
😆
Congratulations i really se forward when you guys sail first time with the new sail 😊
Well done guys
❤❤❤👍💪😊
3:18 some boats need baby bumpers like cribs so they don’t hurt themselves or others 😂😂😂
Yes😅😅
I like more when I Cook red peppers with a little onion, and when you finish sautéing them, as the final ingredient, canned tuna! A tasty warm salad!😊
Never a dull moment at Navy Service when the mistral blows - too many people don't know how to dock when there's wind :D
We think that most of the times it’s better to stay away from the port when it blows like this
@@sailingjoa hard to do when you're coming for a haulout I guess - I dunno, I've had the same thing happen at Navy Service, same spot even, people just don't realise you need to move different when the mistral is going :D
좋겠다요~~

Congratulations after all the hard work! I'm looking forward to future adventures.
I am enjoying your episodes, I can't wait to follow you on your adventures. LG Canada
