Double Ditching... Part 2! Finishing a tough project with the SV100 and Fecon FMX50 mulcher!
It's a shorter video than normal, but it was the wrap-up to a big project! I lost some video to a bad SD card, so unfortunately, there are some missing pieces to the puzzle. The end of the video has the done video and pictures that show the completed project though!

    In the 40+ years of operating heavy equipment, I have sat in the seat of many brands, some now non existent (International/Dresser, Drott, Terex/Euclid Wabco, Poclain, Champion to name a few). I have also worked on some of the largest in the world - Cat 797 truck, Komatsu PC8000 shovel, Cat D11, Hitachi 5500 shovel. But if I was to go and purchase a small excavator it would be the Yanmar SV100 first choice, then probably Sany as second choice.

    I've mainly ran Cat 299d3 Land Managements and had a Cat 289d3 as well as a Kubota SVL95-2 and an ASV RT-75 HD. I did test an ASV RT-120 and was impressed except for the tight cab and loudness in the cab, so we passed on it. I was dead set on a new RT-135 and then the VT-100 came out and I was planning on going with it for the price and weight savings. I was disappointed in the same max cab that our ASV RT-75 HD had with the split tub and low-resolution screen. I'm glad to see that they're dumping Cummins and going with their own Yanmar power plants. We ended up going with a Cat 265 which is somewhere between the 289d3 & 299d3 but the new cab size and upgrades are better than anything else on the market right this minute. Yes, it has much less horsepower, but it's stout for it's size. We're getting more dirt work and less mulching, so it works for us on our smaller projects right now. I'm excited to see what the upcoming Cat 285 or whatever they are calling it turns out to be.

      Yes, part 2 is coming... I just have to edit all the video lol. The beaver dams weren't why the fields were wet, unfortunately we had about 7-8 inches of rain around the time of this project. This is all low ground and this spring everything was completely saturated.

    Ok, there are a lot of parallels with my situation and yours. I ran a 135 for a week and had the same experience. The undercarriage is a deal breaker for me as I am also never on flat ground. There are only 2 other machines in existence that are worth considering. The bobcat T86 has just as much power both engine and hydraulic as the 135, even if the specs don’t say it, it’s dead stable, even with the 5 link torsion. But the big battle right now is with the air intake plugging up with debris and derating the machine, forcing me to power down the head and get out and clean the intake every 30min. Bobcat is working hard on a solution though, once that’s solved the T86 will be the best conventional skid steer for mulching out there. Now…..if Deere is your hometown brand and they take care of you just wait for the 335p, it’s got a dual pump system which is an industry first for a skid steer and on paper looks like it will be a BIG step up from the 333g. The only downside is that it’s completely new and unproven, and nobody wants to be a Guinea pig, but if you have that good of a relationship with Deere I’m sure they’ll handle anything you run into and keep you up and running. Cooling is the biggest issue for us here in the south and there are only 2 machines that can run a head in triple digit heat without cooking the fluid, they are the T86 and the 135. Last but not least I’m going to pull the trigger on an SV100-7 from my Vermeer dealer in the next few weeks. Super stoked about that!

      My current 333g is pretty much new, it only has about 200 hours on it, but I'm looking at a couple dedicated machines in the 175 to 200 HP range. I may keep my 333g, but I'm also talking to my dealer about spending some time in the 335p that is coming to market.

    Great vid I’m currently looking for a machine to get started with have been looking at Takeuchi tl8 or tl12, deere 325g, kubota 97-2 or an asv 75 but from the sounds of it the asv might not be the best choice. If you get a chance take a look at the lamtrac 6160 it’s an absolute beast and not much bigger then a asv135 with 6000psi and 155hp Cummins motor and three hydraulic pumps

    • @bmulching
      @bmulching 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I will say I've been very happy with Deere as an overall machine, but I also live in the heart of Deere country where dealer and warehouse support is unmatched. Not sure what you're looking at getting into, but I will say if you're planning on doing any kind of mulching more than about 40-50% of your business... Your going to want the biggest machine you can possibly get no matter what brand. I've seen a lot of people go the economical route of smaller machine and HP, or standard flow and it just doesn't work for a true business model. Truth be told a 100- 130hp machine still leaves a lot to be desired. If you're going to jump into a tough market from the start, don't cut corners on your abilities and set yourself up for problems. If you're going into the mulching world you're going to need as much HP and cash flow as you can get just to get through.

    Sounds like it'd be worth wiring in continuous switch into the momentary switch circuit. Holding the momentary switch for a few hundred hours doesn't sound like a great time!

    • @bmulching
      @bmulching 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It has the continuous switch from the factory, but when you lock in continuous flow the stick movement slows down drastically.

    • @RutherfordConLLC
      @RutherfordConLLC 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Right, I'm saying figure out how to wire in a constant switch into the momentary circuit to prevent having to hold it the entire time. Since it's an electrical over hydraulic issue, I wonder if it's an adjustable parameter by the dealer?@@bmulching

    • @bmulching
      @bmulching 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wiring in a different switch won't change it. The factory switch works fine, I show it in the video. The issue isn't electric over hydraulic, it's hydraulic demand. When the system is maxed out while in continuous flow the stick movement is impacted the most.

    • @RutherfordConLLC
      @RutherfordConLLC 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Apparently I'm doing a bad job of explaining... picture something that practically/figuratively held the momentary switch at whatever level you deem appropriate, but doesn't require you to physically hold the button after it's set. Like a rotary knob that worked the momentary functionality, but didn't require holding like the momentary slider/button. @@bmulching

    I was just today looking at the new version which they are callling the SV100-7, I need to find out tomorrow exactly what changed with the hydraulics. I'll be running a prinoth head. I think it's the perfect machine for me dimensionally and proportionally and of course the reliability. I'll check back once I go over the hydraulic specs and what changed.

    • @bmulching
      @bmulching 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I heard the biggest changes are in the cab, which is a plus. Even if the hydraulic setup is the same I'm still happy with the machine overall.

    • @TheOMEGANOX
      @TheOMEGANOX 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@bmulching big changes to the hydraulics, they went to a 2 pump system with far more powerful flow, it’s now a load sensing system also, the key number is while running the mulching head in high flow it left roughly 24% for the stick functions, now it leaves roughly 82% for stick function, more than triple the previous system. Overall GPM went up to 36 and pressure up over 4000psi. This is coming from a yanmar corporate rep.

      That's exactly why I picked this machine. It will still fit through an 8 foot gate but has 75hp. Most of the 80/85 machines are just slightly smaller in footprint but are about 20hp less. @b_mulching You think it would maneuverable enough to feed logs into a chipper in the woods? Thinking of putting a 360 degree grapple on it to aid in feeding. Also loading logs into a dump trailer. I've had people who do what I do tell me not to go over a 16k machine. But they all have 12 k machines. I just don't want to regret my decision. Excellent job, especially close to the trees. I agree with you regarding the dirt piles near the creek/ditch. Hopefully they can have you back to regrade that area. I like placement of the camera on the cab near the mulching action.

      Thank you! I've wanted to try some different camera angles... but I'm trying to avoid mulching a GoPro in the process!

    I have seen that same head Ron on a Kubota 57 and it did fine, you should have no issues. Maybe get the rotation coupler, that would be sweet

      I've seen a lot of 57 size machines running the fmx36, I think the fmx50 would be a lot for that size machine. That's why I was very particular about the setup I wanted.
