The chain of volcanic craters south of Mono Lake are brand new geologically speaking-some have erupted 350 years ago. Is active terrain with potential earthquakes and eruptions possible in our lifetime. It’s also the youngest mountain range in North America according to Wikipedia and other sources. Galena Creek Bridge opened 10 years ago and i think is a concrete work of art. It hold’s the distinction of being the longest ‘concrete cathedral arch bridge in the world” meaning the central arch has no supports connecting the arch to the roadway. It is part of the half billion dollar 8 mile segment of 395 near Reno. It’s a great place to fly a small camera- if you don’t cross the roadway.

These lovely animals let me hang out with them as they went about their business. It took an hour of maneuvering my cameras past and then ahead of their grazing movement. I set up a tripod and let them come to me. The horses and lighting cooperated nicely. It was a thrill to be accepted and then ignored by them. As charming as they can be-they create havoc and destruction whereever they go as y...

I set out for Arizona just when Covid became a thing-so I happily complied with the “shelter in place” rules. My shelter was the wonderful Arizona Border country including Organ Pipe National Park, Saguaro Nat’l Park, Cabeza Prieta Nat’l Wildlife Refuge, and hundreds of miles of off-road exploration. I spent time negotiating the historic El Camino del Diablo-a rough road that bumps along the Me...

A short video demo of an Aeropress coffee maker. I was out photographing Fall colors in the central Sierra where I spent last night at 9000 feet. This is the perfect setting and situation for making a quick shot of espresso. Juneau is kind of the opposite of landlocked. It’s not accessible by land routes, only water or air. So maybe it’s water/airlocked?

      Wow Steve, of course I remember you. That was a sentinel experience for me. I thought I might cross paths with you but lost your info of course. I toured the state till late July, almost 3 months. Didn’t make it to Prudhoe Bay but did get to Coldfoot on the Dalton Highway. Be cool to reconnect. I’m going back up next spring.

      @@DanielFCutter I stayed home this summer but also am thinking about going back up next summer. I thought we’d bump into each other too and kept my eye open but it never happened. Put Homer on your list and then take the ferry out to Dutch Harbor. It was the highlight of my summer! Watch for Carol too, she’s everywhere! Haha.

      Yea we need to talk! While I explored the Turnagain inlet and Whittier I didn’t go to Homer. After 6 weeks of solitude I was shell shocked by the amount of RVs heading down there so turned around. Next summer perhaps. A ferry to the Aleutian Islands.

    Thanks Dan for the video. I am planning a trip for May of 24 to Juneau by either the Marine Highway or drive to Skagway & use the highway to get to Juneau. We have an expedition cruise starting in Sitka & ends in Juneau. Then by car to explore the interior of Alaska for a time before returning to the lower 48. I'm currently thinking of one way by Marine Highway & drive the other (either North to start or South at the end). I know costs will likely go u year to year but, what was the cost of passage with the car?

    • @DanielFCutter
      @DanielFCutter 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      About $1000 for the car and $500 for a passenger if you camp out on the top deck. A state room costs more. That was from Bellingham to Skagway. So maybe cheaper for only part of that distance. The sooner you book the “cheaper”it is as they engage in what they call Dynamic Billing or something. As the boat fills up the price goes up. Call them-they are very responsive and its easy to book your trip!

    • @dennislyons3095
      @dennislyons3095 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@DanielFCutter Thank you Dan. Their schedule is not yet available for May. I check every week. "Dynamic billing" is something they learned from the airlines. Sometimes called "Demand rate structure." I'd want a stateroom. My tent camping days are pretty much over since I turned 75. Not that I couldn't, just that I'd rather not with artificial knee & less stamina than ten years ago.

    That is a no kidding serious dangerous Bay! Much like St Paul in the bearing sea, if you blow it coming in, you may well be dead! It's worst with a following sea. The push tries to turn you beam onto the breakers and roll you over. If that happens, your dashed against rocks underneath the wreckage of your own boat. If you are an inexperienced boater you would be best advised to go north and try for Portland.

    Love the video thank you! However, I am in ex-coasty! I do not understand what they were doing off the dock with the forward and reverse thrust test! If they were actually on a call they don't waste time with that. I work the Cape Disappointment motor Lifeboat School and motor surf school with Chief macadams! You get a call you fired the boat you toss the lines and you're gone. That's all that is needed to be said! Otherwise yes they are great boats I never got to serve on one but I have watched them and I watched them through development they are absolutely incredible however I am still partial to the old 44 footer! One of the best motor lifeboats motor surf boats ever produced. Thanks again for the video

    Well, I can see why you have so few subscribers. From the clip title it reads like there's action about to take place, but it looks more like a training exercise than an actual event. Coasties are not that slow when they respond to distress calls. They don't play forward and reverse in the harbor, They just go. And quickly. Your camera skills (or your camera) are lacking; the quality is rather poor and you have trouble maintaining focus and your shooting position was not ideal. Other than that it was rather boring. If you're going to put yourself out there and try to play with the big boys, get some big boy toys and some big boy skills. It probably got 73K views because USCG action videos attract attention, especially when shot in demanding environments, but I wonder how many clicked out of it after the first minute.
