Awesome explanation!!
Sweet doors. Great install.
Hi. How heavy is your door? Is your header piece 1" thick?
Please demonstrate the floor guide for heavy sliding hanging doors
They also comically slam in your face which is called dutch door action
Any guidance on screw type, length, width, etc.?
Really informational video. BUT here's a video production tip from someone with 30 years in media production. Yes, this is a year late. It's a given that 2 mics would be more ideal. So maybe by now you've figured this out. If not, when working with only 1 microphone, allow your guest to have it. Viewers need to the hear answers more than the questions, which could be added with graphics or voiced later and edited into the video. Your other option would be to sit closer to your guest and move the microphone on your sweater or whatever to your guests side. Your 3rd option is to replace that unidirectional microphone with one you often see podcasters use called a Yeti. There are others, but it enables audio capture from 2 sides of the microphone.
So purdy
Good job n splannin
I’ve lived in the Netherlands ( Dutch ) for 13 years and have never seen a Dutch door
Than: you've had your eyes closed!
This video (and your education marketing) would be more useful if the different regions were notated so I could find mine quickly. I eventually just left to find a different video.
That's a great job. I am a customer finish carpenter and I tell people my sweet spot is working on projects that others can't or don't want to work on. Saying "yes" and figuring out how to make the vision happen is what keeps customers coming back!
Hanging a door properly is one of those things that seems easy till you try to do it. Then it seems damn near impossible.
As a locksmith that has worked on 4+ ton vault doors. Hanging a door is a genuine skill don't let anyone tell you otherwise. A properly adjusted vault door should be able to be moved with just 2 fingers of pressure. It all comes down to the hinges, if you're hinges aren't right you door won't hang or swing right.
I live in NH what wood is best for cold northern climate
beatutiful
It would be good to have a video on installation of architectural series hardware like the Hex bar and Swill Rod hardware.
Great video, this is just what I needed with our low ceiling! Thank you!
What do you mean by refinishing every 1-2 years?
so something that is confusing me. I am looking at pantry doors. The door will be a left hand out swing. With that said, when I am considering prehung doors. Wouldn't I be able to purchase a right hand in swing door and rotate it 180 degrees to it becomes a left hand out swing door? Is there specific hardware or design in the frame that prevents this?
Are these doors arched or regular?
Ok I'm trying to install one but there's no studs in the wall. It's in a modular home
I am down in Tampa and hickory is what I want to go with. I really like the grain and look of it along with the flexibility properties. I didn't realize how high it was on the Janka scale until i double checked. Thanks for the recommendations
Happy to help! Hickory is great.
Can you share a link to the exact hinges you use for this door?
very nice
This door is great idea my dad was dutch here in Panama in the old part of the city many houses had these doors people would talk to neighbors and visitors from the door. In our natural hot weather this is great to catch the breeze it was also said that guys would talk to people in a suit and tie but had no pants on thanks to this typy of door. Greetings from Panamá
Great quality craftsmanship guys, thank you for showing all the thought which makes a great set of doors
how to close the hole at the top of the barn door
Double door install: What if the wall going from one side of the opening sticks out more then the other side making the support beam not flat on both sides?
What is the thickness of the support beam?
that looks like a piece of 1+6 oak
Why put in a door n leave a foot of open space above the door? Are you going to build a header?
Probably not a lot of people can see over the door?
@@lourainh2o But you will get noise coming from the other room.
good question , I've been a carpenter for forty years now and it would just take a little more to do some people don't want to spend the extra money
Sold! Devils advocate though, what's some cons?
Thank you, excellent explanation of each component and its importance. These doors are simply exceptional level of craftsmanship. You have a new subscriber folks.
amazing, clean cut job. thank you for sharing all the tips and tricks of the trade.
Hi, I plan on building barn doors for my garage. The current barn doors are old, over 100 years old. They have hinges that look like rustic large hinges… they are also rusty. I want to replace them but I don’t know what hinges to use. Home Depot has security ball bearing hinges 4.5 x 4.5 but they don’t look like large rustic barn door hinges. They are rectangular and look similar to modern interior door hinges. Can you recommend hinges to use?
Hi there! Thanks for your comment! If you are planning to make some outswing garage doors, hinges are very important to get right. We have some hand-forged strap hinges made from solid steel on our website. Our blacksmith Bill forges them by hand for a super authentic, traditional look: realcraft.com/collections/door-hinges/products/hammered-diamond-strap-hinge. Our custom design consultants could also give you some guidance, as they add hinges to custom carriage doors all the time. Just call us at 1-253-600-2734 and we can help you out!
This is *exactly* what I needed! I am so grateful that you took the time to film and edit this for someone like me to benefit from. Thank you so much! I wish you all the best!
That’s lovely! Can you tell me where I can get those hinges please? Currently scouring the internet for hinges suitable for a wide bookcase door in my daughters room. Cheers man
What’s the stain or finish you add from that white can??? Almost looks white
Thank you Don for such a thorough tutorial! We have the same bedroom/Bathroom set up.. question why leave a space above the header could you have gone a little higher and not left too much open space just wondering?
I have the same question. We are installing one today and have an empty space above the header/door. I think we might buy a really wide header to cover that space.
Same question, came to get an ideal how to avoid the upper space before install
The product is beautiful. Please be mindful of letting clients know the dangers of having little children around the hinged side of those doors. The weight of the door and the force is created can literally crush a child to death. The safety of pets is also a secondary concern.
Very thoughtful comment, Levi! We definitely let our customers know about these risks!
Beautiful work!
Thank you! Cheers!
Where can I purchase this header and track
Hi there, You can get one of our Easy Mount Header Boards at realcraft.com/products/flat-track-ledger-board
What kind/size screws did you use to mount to the studs?
?? Also looking for the type of screws you used to mount the headboard to stud
The finish on the that header and door is amazing. Do you have any secrets to share about that finish?
Thanks for the kind comment! We use Osmo Clear Wood Finishes on all of our wood products. You can check out all finish options at realcraft.com/pages/osmo
Do you ever restore doors? If yes, would love to see our hear your thoughts on carriage door restoration
Where can I find a support header at? Do they sell kits?
Thank you for your clear installation guide
That's an amazing stud finder, because here I am.....
Here I am subscribed to your TH-cam channel, but I can't get the points for the giveaway because your site won't let me type in the name on my TH-cam membership. Thank you very much for the patient and bright explanations and for the beautiful model !
You are welcome, Danielle!
what type 'nut product' did you use( in the header ) to receive the rail bolt onto/into the header?
Hi Mike, we manufacture the header boards in-house to perfectly fit our sliding hardware styles.
I want to know where to get one
