Climbing 5 pitches on Éperon des Cosmiques, Rébuffat-Pierre (6a+) | Chamonix July 2022
Big thanks to my friend Petter Cavallin for sharing his GoPro POV footage to include in this video.
On July 10, 2022 my friend Petter and I climbed "Rébuffat-Pierre" (6a+) on the "Éperon des Cosmiques" during my fourth day in Chamonix. Since our plan was to spend the night at the Cosmiques hut to do another climb the next day, we decided to leave our crampons, boots and axes at the bottom of the route and climb as light as possible, which made tackling the 5 pitches on this route way more enjoyable. I remember being in a great headspace while leading the 6a+ pitch, I felt ready to commit to the overhang section and I enjoyed every single move on it. Petter climbed pitches 1, 2, 5 and I climbed pitches 3 and 4. Once at the top we rappeled back to the glacier, and made our way to the Cosmiques Hut

Had such a fun day climbing with Kaspar Sólveigarson in Brattabrekka! We were planning on climbing an easy multipitch route that day but from the approach we noticed a big cornice overhanging right above the last pitch of the route so we decided to look for other options (we weren't feeling particularly lucky that day). Really nice work! I must say I love how the epic music started playing at the crux, as to set the viewer's expectation that it would be a send. And then you fell. Really had me invested in the climb and the entire video was made to feel more genuine than those higher-budget pro-climber videos/documentaries!

    Nice video and congrats on the successful climb. This is the second video where I’ve seen climbers carry a hand coil. It makes no sense. If you have pro you don’t want slack if you’re simul climbing. If you’re aren’t placing gear then why rope up?

    • @AndresVourakis
      @AndresVourakis 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching! It’s all about context, what I can tell you is that the majority of the time I carry a hand coil instead of untying for one main reason, it’s faster than untying and tying again 30 meters up the mountain! Sometimes you know you’ll have to place gear soon or have to short rope your partner. Does it get in the way sometimes? Yes, but sometimes it is more convenient to simply keep it on

    So instead of leading back up with the blue to get the orange unstuck you just left the orange? If it was multiple rappels with a dubble rope then does it takes more time to lead back up for the other rope or to rap twice as much. You didn't even cut it and save some of it or went back the next day, you just left it there as booty for the next guy? Man I wish I wasn't a dirtbag who solos back up for my rope. 😂

You went during evening wich obviously is best lighting, do you think during daylight the light is to agressive (causing washed out white video) ? Whereas the friend of yours held the right foot fixed lower, while stepping up w the left foot... What's the better beta? Great route, by the way and great effort! :)

      I did the Aiguille d'Entreves last week - great route. A longer walk in (from the Torino Hut) and lots of exposure. Difficulty-wise they're both AD. A really good day out would be a very early start, then do Arete Lawrence followed by the Arete des Cosmiques, with a stop for a coffee or lunch in the Cosmiques hut. Then back to Chamonix for tea and medals.
