I've had You've Made of Fool of Death with Your Beauty on my bookshelf for over a year now and have not gotten to it yet. I've heard mixed reviews. I agree with you on Zane not getting enough recognition, especially for erotic fiction. Nervous and Shame on it All are my favourites from her. When 50 Shades came out, they were giving E.L. James all this praise, like she created the genre lol. Anyhow, great video! Hope your November reading has started off with a bang ❤.

Ugh don’t even get me started on death made a fool of me. I did not appreciate the linguistic aspect of it and yes she was very messy 1st a stranger and then his mans-n-dem, and then went on to the father like it was too much! I get it’s a book “fantasy” but come on now! lol 😮🤪

I think you would enjoy Shanora Williams Thrillers. They aren’t scary and she always has “that drama and that tea” 🤭 I read What You Leave Behind by Wanda Morris recently and I feel like you would enjoy that one. Again not “scary” and more on the mystery side.

Hi Lex, can't thank you enough for Americana! I loved this book! Worked with quite a few Nigerians over my career and to the last man they were excellent officers. I only knew of two who had ‘papers’ issues but there were probably more I just didn't know about. I thought the ‘papers’ was the most interesting part of the story, especially nowadays with all this immigration talk around the election. Do you watch Irami Osei-Frimpong (The Funky Academic) on YT? He points out that the real problem with our immigration system is that it promotes a permanent under class that's very easy to exploit. I'm thinking of that painful but powerful scene where Ifemelu was raped by the tennis coach, he was clearly trying to prey upon her presumed illegal status…he must have known that she couldn't go to the police, an unfortunately common strategy for predators. I found myself yelling at my phone over Ifemelu's various dating woes…come on girl what do you want from a dude?!? Thanks again for this great suggestion, I just finished a bunch of Victorians with another YT channel for Victober, liked most of them (especially The Doctor's Wife, Mary Elizabeth Braddon , made me think of Cervantes and Twain meeting Flaubert and Tolstoy…it's that good!), and I'm a big classics guy (love my old Russians) but I was ready for a palate cleanser. Do you have another African gem you might recommend to a brother?

I’m glad I found your channel. Most channels I find are Romance and SciFi/Fantasy based. I’m not a Romance SciFi/Fantasy girl. So, it’s great to find a channel like yours because I read the same type of books you do!

I remember learning about the burning of Black Wall St in elementary school, and it's always interesting to find out people have never heard of it. But I didn't learn about Rosewood until the movie, and when you see it, it makes sense why! Thanks for this video 😊.

FYI, the Morgan Library, in New York has an exhibit that focuses on the life of Belle da Costa Greene, the librarian to J.P. Morgan.There was an article in Sunday's NY Times. a picture of heris also shown and I don't know how she fooled people. You can see that she is not white. The exhibit is there until May 4th, 2025.

I watched the Women of Brewster’s Place several times back in the day and read the book only a few years ago. Of all the books adapted into movies, this is the only from my reading list that was true to the book. It was beautiful to see and I don’t know why Hollywood takes these works and not follow what’s laid out for them.

When you reviewed “Mama” I knew that you had to be the real deal. I was going to come to the comment section and mention, “His Only Wife” when you pulled it up. I knew right then and there that I had to subscribe to your channel because these are the kinds of books that Black women (myself included) are looking for. Keep the reviews coming please!🫶🏾
