    You said to add to the conversation......OPSEC, you will be killed without it. The first thing, listen, monitor the bands and gain tactical information. Only transmit when you have to. When you transmit, use code words, use digital if you have it. Change frequencies often and use split frequencies. Be aware of background noise when transmitting. This will give you a huge tactical advantage. Direction find. You don't need a multi thousand dollar piece of equipment like the guest stated. A homemade or low cost yagi antenna and a hand held HT will get the job done. Once you know which direction the signal came from, you can pull out a topo map and have a good idea where it came from. Not exact, but it will be 100% useful. When transmitting, put out the smallest RF footprint possible that will allow the contact. Use the lowest power necessary to get your message through (low power on a cheap radio will be about 2 watts. A more expensive radio may be 1/2 watt or less. It makes a difference). Use a stubby, low gain antenna with low power for closer in OP's. Use topography to your advantage. Use odd frequencies not in the regular ham bands. Use a directional antenna. Be aware of where you are transmitting from. You too can be direction found. If I'm the leader of a raiding group, I'm having a couple guys come into the area a few days before I get there. I want them to not only get visual, but to monitor every radio transmission they can. A great deal of intel can be gained just from listening. The less radio traffic your group has, the less intel. they have. Too many people just don't know when to STFU. Use Meshtastic. Short burst digital, encrypted in the 900 MhZ band. Not many will spot it and the cost is low and it's easy to use. If you have a SDR in your LP, you will be able to spot just about any signal in range. Very powerful. All of this does not mean don't transmit. It means use your brain before pushing the button. Set yourself up for the smallest RF footprint possible. Can you get the info to where it needs to go without radio ? If yes, do this. There are plenty of good videos on the tube about how to do all these things. You must get out and test radio range. How far can you be picked up by others. How can you minimize your signature. Get to know how to program your radio from the front panel. How to operate the scan modes. Practice, practice, practice. It will serve you well when the time comes. It's not rocket science. The group with the best radio discipline, practiced skills, who monitor the bands will have a huge advantage. Much more to this if you want to be the best you can. At the least, practice the basics.

      Excellent comment! Great info and insight. I continue to place less emphasis on coms due to the complexity and am more closely considering how I may need coms when it hits the fan. I'm very much the gray man attempting to operate within the standard systems.

      @@johnk23705 you are absolutely correct in everything you said above. This is something everyone using coms has to consider. Opsec (operational security) and radio discipline are very important to keep you safe in a hostile environment. It is very easy to triangulate your position without you even knowing someone is doing it. To give you a prime example, yes my job gives me tools to aid in locating interference. Yes it is expensive equipment. But here is what that equipment can do. It is pre loaded with maps and uses gps to locate the user. It can scan all frequencies from 0 to 1ghz in about 50 milliseconds. Not only does it do that but it calculates the transmission location based on recieve level and terrain. It places that on the map and whether that transmission is moving or not. If you are frequency hopping it captures all the frequency you are using. So regardless how disciplined you are it will pinging you in 50 milliseconds and record that transmission. There is always a smarter technology regardless of the current tech. As long as you are listening you can get the valuable intel that you are looking for. Furthermore as long as you dont transmit you are relatively safe and secure. But as stated you must know how to use your equipment. Practice practice practice, is the best policy, get a license to help teach you more about coms. And just have fun with the hobby. It's all what you put into it and get out of it.

    People spend $1500. plus on their primary weapon and have 4 more in the safe, yet here again, the "Expert" recommends the Baofeng. You know more and have more common sense than your expert, you had to lead him. You don't go into a gun fight with a High Point rifle. Buy a quality HT. One that is tough, water proof, has banks of memory channels and fast scanning. The scanning in most Chi-radios is like watching grass grow. Baofeng's cost $10. to manufacture. They have the cheapest internals they can get and the cases break easily. Get real. Radios are very important. The ability to scan multiple frequencies quickly is very important. Why not also teach OPSEC ? Improper use of a radio in SHTF will get people killed. Sorry to dump on the podcast. I've been prepping for 30 years and into radio for 20. Your "Expert" knows some things, but misses the mark in so many ways. He totally skipped the use of NVIS in HF for close in regional communication. The use of digital modes. Nobody is using Raspberry Pie's anymore. They are too fragile and there are there are far better ways to get things done. Get the guy on the "Wildcat Comms" YT channel on your podcast. This guy is squared away. If you don't know your equipment and how to use it, you will fail Sorry to say, but I feel Dumber after watching this guy.

      No disrespect intended, but this podcast wasn't meant for the more advanced in communication. It was to encourage people not to be scared of exploring radio communication. Yes opsec is important in shtf situations. But that is for groups to discuss their opsec procedures. Again this was an introduction to radio communications. To introduce the basics and encourage others. If you want to discuss more advanced communications feel free to throw your hand up and join the discussion. Encourage others not belittle them. Is all I'm saying.

      @@josephgendreau828 No shade taken. I think my point is that if a newby is looking to buy a pistol, you suggest a Glock, not a High Point. When SHTF, there won't be anyone going to Amazon to buy a radio that will work way better than a Baofeng or to replace a broken cheap radio. We spend thousands on kit, but it seems as we are more often than not told to buy a cheap radio. Radio will be vital in SHTF. I'd rather see the case made for buying a quality radio and learning to use it properly. A radio a person can grow into. This will far better serve the community. Make the case for quality radios that will be useful for more than just person to person comms. With 2 likes for 35 views, I think the majority agree with me.

Natural gas outage would be rough, 9 months no problem but December thru February would be brutal! I have back up but it will be cold! My backup heating will only last so long, & I’m always looking for more/better options. Diesel heater(s) look good but I’m not wanting to store another fuel source. Plan to order as I have been unable to find the msr version. A couple of questions What is the advantage over storing calcium hydrochloride (pool shock). Heavy metals is a concern & this will not help with removal, a filter with activated charcoal with still be needed? What size group will the global unit provide for? The prime unit does look good to me.

    • @Thepreparedguy
      @Thepreparedguy หลายเดือนก่อน

      Calcium hydrochloride in the form of pool shock can be used to make chlorine. Chlorine can then be used to disinfect water. With this new H2Go there is no need for it. I would still recommend filtering out the chlorine with a carbon filter. We do that every day with our Berkey. Pure water is important for good health. For long-term health removing heavy metals is critical. Berkey does that too. Fortunately, I'm stocked up on filters.

    • @katiebrich
      @katiebrich หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is Katie from Aqua Research, the manufacturer of the H2gO. Note the MSR MIOX is no longer in production. The H2gO GLOBAL can be considered a 2nd generation of the same product. The H2gO GLOBAL treats anywhere from 1 to 20 L in a single dose, while the H2gO PRIME can treat 1-10 L in a single dose. If you want to treat a larger volume with the H2gO PRIME, you can double dose. While pool shock is cheap and accessible, there are several advantages of the H2gO over storing pool shock. First, pool shock is hazardous. It's extremely corrosive. If it gets wet it can form toxic chlorine gas. and it can spontaneously ignite if mixed with the wrong product. Pool shock is a little bulky to store, while the H2gO fits in the palm of your hand. And, when you're out of pool shock, you are out. You have to source more pool shock through retail channels. Pool shock also has a shelf life (although it's a pretty long shelf life at 5+ years). Last, pool shock is just chlorine, and it cannot inactivate Cryptosporidium. In contrast, the H2gO generates a more powerful chlorine + peroxide combination that can inactivate even the toughest bugs. And you are correct -- neither pool shock nor the H2gO will remove heavy metals in water, although chlorine treatment can make some heavy metals easier to remove. For example, the H2gO will oxidize Arsenic III to Arsenic V, making it easier to remove. Hope this answers your questions!

    • @johncabot2114
      @johncabot2114 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@katiebrich Katie -- do you know if there is a way to use the H2gO to create a bleach solution? In other words, how many 20L preparations would need to be put into 1L of water to create a stronger bleach solution? Looks like the Global creates 2.5ppm per 1L batch, so 50ppm per 20L batch?

    • @katiebrich
      @katiebrich วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@johncabot2114 You have it exactly right -- the H2gO concentrates the disinfectant to 50ppm per 20L batch for the H2gO GLOBAL. I have greatly reduced my fear of EMP, lots of hype out there. After 2 1/2 years not used in eastern Europe, nearly a year & not used in middle east. Hacking of the grid is much higher on my concerns, think colonial pipeline. In both Eastern Europe & the Middle East the electric grid has been a high target with conventional weapons to disrupt lives. Weather is still most likely to cause the grid to go down (think hurricanes, winter storms). Hollywood & fictional books are NOT the place to get your information.

      I'm pretty sure there was no intent to do that. She started on tiktok back in the tiktok boom and that was the name she chose there. Most of us on there when that was going on, weren't thinking about youtube or other platforms.

    I was in the Oct 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake. Magnitude 6.9 on the San Andres fault line. Our home was 30 miles from the epicenter. Every bookcase was on the floor, china hutch dumped over and every dish/glass we had came flying out of the cupboards. Our chimney and foundation cracked. We lived in our motorhome parked in front of our house for almost 3 weeks until our house was safe to inhabit again...

    Within the martial arts community. A black belt is not an expert, but mastery of the basics. Black belt is the start of training and education not the end. Sounds like a similar basis, in knowing the art of the basics.

    *_"Two is one, one is none,"_* is a true saying, but whatever you have in your "kit" should be able to complete three tasks, two minimum. If it only performs one task, that item should be replaced with one that can better perform.

    Ive been preparing hardcore for over 2yrs. Luckily i have a fair amount of disposable income. I run my freeze dryer 24/7...i have much meat and many many gallons of water. Thats not even counting can goods and oils and powered items. Ham and shotwave radios... generators, gas , propane., water filters ..the list goes on and on... not to mention plate carriers and pew pews to protect the items and family. God bless and good luck to everyone.

    The most important preparation of all is to get right with God Almighty folks. Nothing is more important, nothing at all. Repent of all sins and wrongful actions, learn better and do better. Study the Word of God. 😊❤
