    I watched this video during my first year of my Clinical Mental Health program in grad school and at that time I was having a major midlife (quartervlife??) crisis because I didn't know what I wanted to do with that degree and started to regret my decision. After watching this and your other videos, you made me consider school counseling and I eventually added a school counseling concentration to my program. I just started my first real school counseling position at a high school this week, and I love every bit of it, so I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you for helping me through this journey and inspiring me to make the leap!!!

    I'm currently in my last semester as an senior as an undergraduate with a major in sociology. I want to work with children in a sense of interacting and having one on one with them. But I'm having a hard time knowing what job title I want to do. I definitely want to take a gap year or so before I go back to get my masters. • @heyjudywai
      @heyjudywai 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’d think about types of jobs you’re interested in. Look at program descriptions, class descriptions, and see if any of them resonate with you. Reach out and interview people already working in your fields of interest to learn more about what that job or major entails. Enjoy the gap year and I hope it’s a meaningful time for you!!

      Hey! It can feel extremely confusing/stressful/frustrating to adhere to the pressures of finding the right career path. I recommend reaching out to professionals working in your fields of interests and asking them about their work life and insights into their job! Doing so helped me gain personal opinions about different jobs and helped inform my decisions as to which career path to take. Hope this helps :/ feel free to reach out to me as well if you have any questions about my job and my career path :)

    I’ve always thought about School Counseling till I found out I have to teach for 3 years first... Which I’m not a fan of. But it’s always been in the back of my mind. Now I’ve been thinking about School Psyc or Social Work, but I’m still thinking about School Counseling too. How would I even go about teaching or getting a teaching certificate. If I apply to the program anyway, would I get help from advisors/professors to do that?

    • @heyjudywai
      @heyjudywai 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A teaching credential/cert would be helpful to have but not necessary to apply for school counseling graduate programs! You will learn classroom management in some courses and through your fieldwork hours. You mostly teach SEL lessons in elementary and middle..not necessarily high schools. Hope this makes sense!

    Hey Judy! I was hoping to get some perspective on this: I’m currently a school psych grad student in the Bay Area and I’m feeling more called to the counseling profession in schools. I’m getting the sense that school counselors get to work with individuals and groups or lead classroom SEL lessons, which sounds right up my ally. I definitely don’t want to be stuck in a testing only role as a school psychologist. Any advice/insight from what you experience at your school?
