The Detective is in fact Professor James Moriarty and his sidekick is Sebastian Moran. Sherry Verne, the actor and rebel, is in fact Sherlock Holmes and his Doctor associate is John Watson. The idea is that in a world ruled by Lovecraftian horrors the great Detective of Baker Street is in fact Sherlock Holmes arch nemesis.

Agreed the original short story is a beautiful piece of art. For those who have not read it, the short story is written like it’s is a newspaper article from the 1880’s and they lovingly recreated some of the adverts from that “newspaper” in the graphic novel too. lol, I think our Detective has his own share of eccentricities that he’d just be glad of the company! Still though it’s a quality line that I’ve personally used over the years when introducing myself to new people 🤣🤣

Which part do you mean? The narrator is one of the characters so he sees what they see. If you mean the monstrous nature of the blood royal, the queen is a Lovecraftian entity who defeated humanity 700 years before the story takes place. The story is told in a world where Lovecraftian horrors are the elite, who would the great detective of baker street be? Surely not Sherlock Holmes?

He is looking for revenge for the enslavement of mankind and by doing so hopes to free us from the monsters.
