Great review thank you, I will also order but just one question, how do you configure the plug type when ordering? I need for instance an EU plug. Was wondering how yours came with a UK plug when you ordered from the USA
It's only available for the US at the moment - I was only able to get a UK version because the manufacturer sent it to me to review.
I have one of these, the acrylic swells and deforms a bit, so I needed to keep rubber bands on it to keep the roll on. I have found that it needs to come out everytime it needs a roll change
Long-term update. The feed mode stopped working after about a year - it still goes into feed mode but the pump no longer turns back on at the end of the timer. So I have to turn it off then remember to turn it back on manually. Otherwise it still works fine and is still nice and quiet. I'll probably replace it at some point because of the feed mode issue though, it's just not urgent.
To get perfect amount of water in the vial you need to target the lowest point of liquid curve to match the line (not a circuit but central point) :)
How long does a roll last for use? and how does it compare to other roller mats that are cheaper to operate? I'm asking because I have a new, unused Reef Factory Roller Mat S and I don't know if it's worth installing it in a new tank or buying a cheaper replacement.
It'll vary from tank to tank but mine lasted ages - about 6 months
The purpose of the fleece filter is to remove debris before it falls apart and transforms to ammonia. You need to figure out a scheme where your dirty part is replaced each 2-4 hours (as a rule of thumb), you can do that by fiddling with the position of the water sensor (the higher the longer the cycle). So you can determine out yourself by influencing the position of the water sensor. This way you remove solids quick enough before they turn nasty.
Would you say the fluval Evo with the upgrades is the ideal desktop tank for the price ? Others in comparison are alot more expensive.
It's definitely up there - the other options are more square shaped which do look good, but the peninsula style of the Evo looks great too.
@@ReefDorkXtra thank you. What alternatives would you consider ? If you run filter floss, is there any requirements for a skimmer ?
Hi do you recommend the pump now . ? 😅😊
I think so, yeah. It did stop working after I took it out of the tank but they replaced it. I now have the bigger one on another tank that's doing fine.
UV changed the game for me after I had my first ich breakout. I went for the TMC uv vecton titan and really like it and use it on my Red Sea 170. Able to fit it inside the bottom cabinet.
The quartz bulb allows about twice the amount of the radiation to pass through vs normal glass bulbs. Hence Deltec’s claim for 2x the power. It also makes the bulbs 2x as expensive.
I’m sorry mate but that UV is not nearly enough to achieve proper sterilization in your tank. At its max recommended flow rate of 500L per hour (required to achieve sterilization at 33,000 microwatts/sec/sq.cm) you will be well below 1x tank turnover, which means you will not efficiently process the amount pf water required to achieve your goal. For that you would need to have the Deltec 39w unit.
Just saw you also got the 48w, although did not know that existed. I had the 80w in my 200G for about 5y until it disintegrated
However… according to some sources the amount of radiation required for Marine Ich is about 180.000 microW/sec/sq.cm, which would mean you would need something considerable bigger… That is why I had the 80w, which according to Deltec has 2x the radiation of normal UVs (because the bulbs themselves are made of quartz instead of glass) which (maintaining the same flow rate) would give me about 66.000. Still not there, but we need to keep it realistic.
cool that you use metric units in the thumbnail picture. one advise: just use cm not cms even if it is longer than one cm
Dear Sir Reef of Dork, sorry to bother you, as this battery is no longer available, could possibly you recommend a replacement to power my vectra M2? Thanks in advance 👍
I haven't been able to find any similar alternatives I'm afraid 🙁
Thanks for looking 👍
I have the 39 W model. The gasket sucks. At some point the water will leak and go through to the electric connection, and as a result you will have a short circuit, a power outage at home and a fried power supply. And the replacement is about 90 €. After my second catastrophic failure, I put some teflon band around the gasket.. I hope it will work. But I believe the design is wrong. You cannot separate the electrical connector from the saltwater with a rubber gasket which will degrade.
Deltec bulbs are made of quartz not glass so more UV is produced compared to a normal glass UV bulb
redsea is not an aquarium for beginners ! everything is very complicated
I have the 48 plus a small DC pump but I have not got round to installing it yet! I had not thought of putting it in the sump but it makes perfect sense and will spur me on to getting it fitted! Unfortunately my sump is just a little too shallow to use your bracket. Any chance you could make a version to fit the slightly larger centre tube section with the flange sitting on top of the bracket??
There are too many potentially niche options people would ask me to make so I'm just gonna go with a one size option I'm afraid...
Re the uv transmission loss/gain. They are comparing glass vs quartz BULBS producing the UV not the sleeve
I've just picked up the 48w for my system. I believe the flowrate is what they rate the unit for at 33,000 microwatt's/sec/sq.cm. off the top of my head (its gone midnight) i think you need 300k for parasites so 10x slower than its rated for.
@@The1NdNly thats too slow and the bulb will overheat. Algae is 33000 which if you run the unit at its suggested rate it will be efficent. For marine ich sterilization (not too kill as these uv units are not powerfull enough to do) is 72000 so you need to slow the units recomended flow rate down by 2.18 too acheive that. I personally slow it down by a third to hit 99000 and this then covers me for the bulb losing intensity over the year.
Cool ! I was impressed with the price of the sicce ❤
For anyone who needs to know the uv rates for algae vs parasites. 20 watt version rated for 1000 litres 1000 litres per hour algae. 1000 ÷ 2.18 for parasites. 39 watt version rated 2000 litres. 2000 litres per hour algae 2000 ÷ 2.18 parasites 80 watt version rated 4000 litres. 4000 litres algae 4000 ÷ 2.18 Parasites. Not a manufacture recomendation but i run my deltec 80 watt uv at 4000 ÷ 3 (1360 litres per hour) as bulbs lose intensity over the year. Works like a charm.
Vecton Titan for the win
Can you put a link to the 48w uv? Thanks
Done - links now in the description
If you go on the DD website it lists flow rates for a reef tank and a fish only tank. The fish only tank gives you a slower flow rate. Im guessing thats for parasite control. In the case of the DD 10w UV the minimum flow rate is 230LPH and for the 39 watt its 920LPH minimum
They say a quarts sleeve allows more UV light to pass through it than the equivalent glass that why the equivalent UV rating is doubled for them. Also, you know when the UV bulb goes out because the transformer makes a beeping noise and the light on it turns from green to red
Interesting, thanks.
I love these review videos!
Mate a 10 watt UV steriliser is not going to do that much to parasites,. I get it that is a nice compact size UV but the longer the sleeve of a UV the more contact time it has to damage parasites. If you wan't a compact one you better get the Aqua Medic ones. Water goes through the Aqua Medic ones in a swirl around the UV bulb for better contact time. For killing or damages parasites water should also go slowly through the UV unit.
Fellow quartz sleeve breaker numpty here 🙋♂️ 😅
👊
Love the reality of braking the bulb 😂❤
Hi @Reef Dork, Good vid and info, thanks (& sorry about the quartz sleeve!). Quartz sleeves are a pain, and were always being broken in the large wattage units used for ponds where I used to work...and they ran to nearly £100 for a replacement (~25 years ago). Maybe the difference in unit length is if they use different bulb types, e.g. your 10w looks to have a "double tube"/side-by-side one, but perhaps the 30w has a "normal" fluorescent-style tube? Cheers, Rich.
These don’t seem to be available through Deltec USA yet I’m curious how they compare to aqua ultraviolet - because a 57 watt is about $500 from them
This video is basically porn for Ryan
What brand is that rockwork in that tank?
RR Aquascapes
do you think the nicrew 200w would be better then 2 ai prime 16hd..?
Really hard to compare them because they're very different and intended for different uses so you'd be making big compromises either way. 2x 100s vs 2 Primes is a better comparison. The HyperReefs will give you more power and spread, the Primes will make your tank look better, have more adjustability and have an app. My video review is uploaded and scheduled to go live on Friday on the main channel so tune in to see the differences.
I’m waiting for your review on the Nicrew G2 before deciding on my light. Could you please mention which light you’d choose? Your high marks for Reef Factory lights have made things confusing when watching your videos before deciding on a light.
If all you care about is growing coral, the Nicrew is fine - the bigger brands like RF just give you extra features that some people will want but others won't.
Thank you reef legend, this is incredibly useful! 👍
Good to know ! Great job . Look forward to the update . Thank you .
I found it won’t ever pull the roll all the way through because once it exposes the cut outs in the acrylic , the lvl won’t be able to active the float switch , you can just pull it back up and staple a fresh one on 👍🏻
Sweet!
Save yourself much fustration and just buy a Red Sea ReefMat. We operate 7+ units and changing the rolls is a 1 minute job.
Hang the motor back on not hard at al
Can you swap the side the inlet is on?
Not 100% sure but I don't think so , no...
Just got the 100w for 170.99 with the sale replacing my 2 fluval 3.0 light bars 😂
Does the roll stink? Often wondered about that. Lots of things in this hobby stinks
Ha! No it doesn't, even if shove your face in it and take a lung full 😅
@@ReefDorkXtra plz don’t do that🤣 but nice to know. Wife hates the smells
The amount of DIY plumbing i've seen you do Alex, i think you have earned at least one qualification to be a plumber!
I almost bought an electric pipe cutter to install this 😂
Would this run on a 25mm pipe?
I think you'd need a 25 to 32mm adapter...
I have a RSR 450 that I added a Reefmat to 4 months ago and love it, but I have a little 170L AquaOne tank standing empty for over 6 months because I refuse to run filter socks again and can't justify the price of the mainstream filter rollers for that tank. I've looked at the BM's before and always wondered if they were worth a punt. Thank you, you have now answered my question, second tank coming up 😁
Nice review, out of interest what size is the grey pipe and union and what material is it please.
32mm PVC
Good review. It actually looks decent, as good as a gen2 clarisea
I actually think it's better than the Clarisea...
@ReefDorkXtra it looks better. Definitely the one I'd go for due to the price vs functionality 👍
Used the M version of this for about 3 or so years now, only downside I'd say is not many LFS stock the bubble magus rolls but the sk-5000 roll fits on the M version with a little DIY tube from a toilet roll inside to roll it into and they do last longer as the bubble magus ones do have a shorter roll.
Great review as always I had a Clarisea which worked well but was a pain to clean and change the roll. The alarm would sound often when the roll did not need to advance enough to reset the timer. This BM one looks to be every bit as good as the Clarisea but at a very good price. Its design, including the cable connectors seems to take up more space than necessary which is annoying. I paid the crazy £210 pound premium over the BM to get a ReefMat 500. It's a joy to change the roll and everything can be cleaned from the top so if you are lazy like me, I think it's the one to go for. I also like that every part of the ReefMat is available as a spare. It goes through rolls quite quickly though.
I enjoyed your reviews on nicrew and this review
