    Statistic: U.S. House Church Movement Bigger than 2nd Largest Denomination by: Jim Rutz, WorldNetDaily The little guy is back. For the first time in 1,700 years, simple churches meeting in homes are once again a factor in human events. In many countries, they're booming so strongly that critics and opponents can no longer brush them aside as a fringe movement. And as I documented repeatedly in "Megashift," home churches are producing millions of proactive Christians who now and then perform miracles (though the credit ultimately belongs to God, of course). But this week, even I was shocked to discover how big our house church community in North America really is. Briefly stated, we're right about halfway between the Catholic Church and the Southern Baptist Convention (which is the second-largest denomination in the U.S.). OK now, let's inhale. I'm stunned, too. This really is starting to alter the landscape for all of us. Let me state up front: These are solid numbers. George Barna, the leading U.S. church pollster and perhaps the most widely quoted Christian leader in America, is the author of the figures below. They are based on a full-on, four-month scientific survey of 5,013 adults, including 663 blacks, 631 hispanics, 676 liberals and 1,608 conservatives. Nobody argues with numbers from The Barna Group. They employ all the professional safeguards to ensure tight results - in this case, a sampling error of +/-1.8 percent. Here are the results stated in five ways: In a typical week, 9 percent of U.S. adults attend a house church. In absolute numbers, that 9 percent equals roughly 20 million people. In a typical month, about 43 million U.S. adults attend a house church. All told, 70 million U.S. adults have at least experimented with participation in a house church. Focusing only on those who attend some kind of church (which I recall is about 43 percent of us), 74 percent of them attend only a traditional church, 19 percent attend both a traditional and a house church, and 5 percent are hard-core house church folks. The study counted only attendance at house churches, not small groups ("cells") that are part of a traditional church.

    I wish the word church had never been used in the translation. Everyplace the word church is used the proper translation was “ called out ones”. The word church evokes a building and a heirachy and a spectator setup. It has done a great disservice to the body of Christ to put it mildly.

    This video was so good to listen to - so refreshing, so free from guilt and the pain usually associated with evangelism. I am currently going through Church 101 and am just learning about the Luke 10:2b prayer. It really does come down to hearing God's voice in evangelism and in everything else in life in order to bear fruit and to live in joy. It is so simple yet rarely known because it is very rarely understood and taught. I am not trying to bash the church; however, for all its programs and activities the lack of fruit shows that there has to be a better way and that way is to actively engage Emmanuel, taking the time to listen to His voice and have the faith that He wants to lead and guide us in all we do.

    I'm sure you already know this but when you all are talking about creeds I do know that at least (not sure if others do this) the churches of christ/christian churches don't have creeds. They say, "No creed but Christ" of course I could see one thinking that Luke 10 is apart of that tradition if that is the route that was taken. Thank you for letting us see how you all are working together on this! -David

      @@joymoments No apology necessary. I would loved to have done a series of podcasts with Dick. I learned a great deal from him, especially about how to facilitate a group. Much of that is in some of our LK10 Leader Team Lessons on facilitating groups. I don't know anyone else who talks about discipling a group vs discipling individuals in a group. Revolutionary concept! :-)

    Good insight. I waited decades to hear anyone express I Cor. 14:26 as a realistic practice for believers' meetings, even though our "koinwnia" groups in the '80s approached the actuality. Xenos Christian Fellowship in Columbus, OH was the first large fellowship I heard of, started in about 1971, built around what grew to be hundreds of house churches, during the 40+ years led by the original two-man pastoral team. (The fellowship may have evolved into a unified ministry with hundreds of small groups, more recently.) One might also check out Ray Stedman's book, Body Life. Unusually edifying for the whole group. edit: www.xenos.org/home-groups

    Leader Team? the term seems to attack the heart of what you teach the "leader teams" What you teach is a fundamental attack on the leader follower model . . . that the purpose of the leader is to lift up each member through discipleship to full maturity to handle all problems that come along not to be their own class with their own special needs as a separate class in the church of "leaders." Forming them into a team seems to indicate that they are in a special class. sure right now they are all into being "one of the people". but the club is formed its most significant meetings are with each other . . . the stage is set to undo everything LK10 stands for.

  • @anneforeman6572
    @anneforeman6572 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Servant, younger brother, least of these =One who has no power to enforce his word, directives etc. Master, elder brother, Great Ones=One with legitimate recognized authority to enforce his word directives etc. When you use the term, "Lord it over" it implies that Jesus opposed only the misuse of legitimate authority when in fact it is the exercise of legitimate authority itself that Jesus rejected. His only authority is the authority of God backing up his word. Our only authority is the integrity of our lives, the integrity of our teaching, and the integrity of what we say others should do. Other than that there is no legitimate authority for the Christian leader to enforce his word. Excellent point of the overseer as one who sees. reminded me that the "office" of the leader in the Church is patterned not after the kings of the gentiles, but the prophets, called "seers" in the OT. These men actually did have the word of God, they saw what was really going on in Israel and the world, but they had no organizational or institutional power to enforce their word. The key distinction between the Overseer and the Gentile ruler (Lk 20:25, Mt 22:25) is that the NT Overseer had no power to enforce his word, only the power of his life laid down in the example of the Cross, as Jesus said in Mt 16:24 and as Peter said in I Pt 5:1. I Pt 5:1 defines the overseer as one who sets an example not as one who exercises authority.

    Thanks John for your comments. I believe this is a move of the Lord across the world as I see the same sentiments in many different countries. I live in Australia but see it in my perusal of social media. My first contact was Jeff Reed from BILD (bild.org) in Iowa. Then through TH-cam I came across The Praying Medic, which led me to Mike Parson in the UK (freedomarc.org). Mike references Francois du Toit's Mirror Bible which I have found so enlightening. And so the trail goes on , as Francois leads me to Baxter Kruger and Paul young. They do not disparage the formal church but do give a way that leads back to the real meaning of Church and everyone's part in it. And a core point to me is that each one says "Listen, don't believe what I say, take it to Jesus and see what He thinks" I'll leave it there rather than ramble on. All these guys can be found on TH-cam. May God (the father, son and holy spirit) continue to bring revelation to you in your walk with them.

    1 Cor 2:14 ... neither can he know them, because they are to be spiritually discerned. There are movements originally initiated by God and today they are dead. There are systems developed by man and they have been dead all the time. What matters? Jesus on board ! Holy Spirit in us. God's Presence. Kingdom. King. His Purposes, His business. Holiness. Seeing God. Hearing His Voice. Total Unity achievable only by total surrender, self-denial of all particulars - mainly... me.

    As a student in counseling several years ago, this is excellent advise about the leader not solving problems that the group can handle if they are made aware of. But the most salient issue that was brought out in this video is the fact that this is not done nor is it encouraged in traditional organized religion. The bible over and over states that we are not a island unto ourselves, but we need to rely on one another in the ekklesia to build the body of Christ up. If this does not happen, discipleship and evangelism will not take place in any effective manner. Good video!
