I bought a brand new 2022 Triumph Bobber as my first 'big' bike after passing my test. Less than a year later I upped my bike collection and now proudly own a 2006 T100 also.
Follow me on my journey as I modify the bikes, get involved with meets and ride outs, and maybe a few other bits and bobs along the way.

Fixing The Bobber
After replacing the faulty start relay, I needed to put the bike back together, clean the chain, and get the bike back to being road worthy

1st Attempt at MotoVlogging Goes Wrong
มุมมอง 167หลายเดือนก่อน
So I decided I would have a go at MotoVlogging, and failed. I was heading out on a ride as part of a local mechanics funeral procession. Tens of bikers showed up to pay tribute. Whilst my Vlogging effort was a failure I wanted to share the procession of bikers, and my enjoyable run home through the streets of Paisley with my mate. #motorbike #triumphbonneville #triumphbikes #motorcycle #bikelif...
Whats wrong with my Triumph Bobber?

After a long period away I am back and attempting to start my bikes... attempting being the key word. Both the T100 and the Bobber have been tucked up in the garage for most of this year. One of them isn't happy with me.

Hi, have you got your bike through an MOT with those pipes? Ta.
Bike isn't old enough yet for its 1st MoT. From what I understand, db is not checked as part of the test. Don't hold me to that though, I will need to check it out before my test is due
Paraffin (kerosine) works well to clean the chain and always clean from the inside. Similarly with lubrication, it should be applied to the inside of the chain, centripetal force moves it to where it needs to be.
Not to be that guy....but, probably shouldn't use WD40 with the chain if it's an O ring in case the solvent in the lube reacts with the rubber O rings.
I know where you are coming from and agree that suitable chain cleaner would be preferred. There is a mixture of opinions on whether WD is safe to use on rubber and orings. WD say it is, but is that just a sales pitch? Lots of other sources say it is not, but is that founded/factual? Maybe worth a diy test over time to see. In any case, It was all I had in the garage and the contact time was minimal, only used to degrease followed by a wipe down and lube with chain oil.
@@The_Scottish_Biker I'd probably do the same myself.
Nice to see it’s all good. My bike looks like it may need a new battery soon. Booo
I have x-pipe but with baffles on my mufflers. Sound just perfect.
Great job, I love the paint colour on that bike! Hopefully see it out on the roads soon... well maybe in Spring! Cheers, Michael.

Hi found your channel through the Haggis whisperer so had a look, enjoyed the vid & sent a sub, I'm in winter storage here in Sweden on my channel, so enjoying other channels rides, Cheers & ride safe
Brilliant. Thanks for the sub. I will check your channel out. Roll on the better weather
@The_Scottish_Biker Thanks bud, appreciate it & yeah better weather would be great amazing roads you have there & don't seem to be too congested, or was it just a lucky ride
@@SwenglishSteve650 we have a lot of great routes. The standard of the roads varies, like anywhere it depends where you go. This particular route gets super busy in the summer. I got it on a good quiet autumn day. One of my favourites though as the views as you come down through the hills is amazing.
Nice footage, reminds me of last year JOGLE cycle ride. Will have to come back now I have a Bonneville.
So annoying
Had it been too small that would've been worse. Cant see an issue with an old hose having to stetch a bit more for the new fitting. As far as problems go with aftermarket parts, this isnt one 😂
more of a pain that the original spring clips no longer fitted than it was stretching the hose.
So it was a direct replacement that was compatible with your vehicle because it did fit
I wouldn’t go as far to say it was a ‘direct’ fit, but it was given no choice.
@The_Scottish_Biker sorry big man I was fuckin with you , you're right by the way that chineseium shite is why I left the motor trade
EP 90 on your chains....never look back.....put on with a tooth brush.
@@nickaxe771 EP90 Gear oil? Is it not sticky and messy when it comes to dirt?
@@The_Scottish_Biker No idea mine is a road bike...to me its far less sticky that the spray on lube. Any fling onlt my wheel and there is not much easy wipes off....not like spray on stuff.
Great wee video none the less though and a good turn out for the funeral, he must have been a well respected man. Look forward to the next attempt without the lens cap! 😀 Cheers, Michael.
That’s my bike away now.
@@haggiswhisperer getting a wee bit too nippy now 🥶
Looks like a good turn out great to see all those bikes. If you don't mind me asking what size of rise are on your bonnie been looking to put some mini apes on my T100 but not sure how high to go yours look about what I am looking for
I measure it as 8 inch. I was told these bars were from a USA export T140
Hi m8 thanks for the response just saw your video there unfortunately all the American imports seem to be 7/8" diameter mines are 1" I'll look around sure I will be able to get ones to fit
Just came across your channel this morning. Nice one. Really clear and logical system of fault finding. I have a triumph sprint 1050 st. Nice machine but getting at stuff is a nightmare!! I went through a phase of bad starting and thanks to the Triumph forum discovered that my main cables to the battery were past their sell by date. £60 to a triumph forum member and I had a set of 'pudding' battery cables in a few days. Higher quality copper cable, twice the gauge thickness and cheaper than Triumph OE parts. No problems since. Great vids. I am subscribing.
Thanks for the comment and the sub. The forums can be a wealth of knowledge. Sometimes its the simplest things that give us the biggest problems.
Great vid, very informative and will help make future problems for others easier to diagnose. Keep up the great vid work. By the way depending on your weight have you looked into COC customs from Australia for their springer seat? Seems like a good choice for a more comfortable ride.
Hi Steve, glad you enjoyed it. I have seen a couple of springer seat kits. Im not sure I like the look and i dont really want to mess with my seat again whilst I have the lights mounted to it. The ride is ok with the upgraded shock and the custom gel seat.
@ ah sweet , it’s always good to hear that the shock and gel seat are a win on the comfort level as well as keeping the back end planted to the road. As for the CoC Customs you may want to give it a peek. Keep the vids coming.
Very good mate. If anyone has this problem in the future this is gold. Thanks! 👍
Thanks. I aim to please 😂
what a nightmare to get to that Start relay. If you could only have either the Bonnie or the Bobber, which one would it be? I'm thinking of getting a T120 or maybe a Street Master myself. Love the paint job on your Bobber btw.
Yes, it certainly is not in an easy place to get to. Poorly designed imo. Thats a tough question to answer. Very different bikes. I love the Bobber, every ride makes me smile, but the T100 is more versatile and much comfier. So both have their place.
Great videos and very helpful information. Just got the same bike on a 16 plate and I’m now a new subscriber. Thanks for great content.
Brilliant. Thanks for the sub and good luck with the bike.
The norm for the brand.Sorry but just buy a RE and be past all this.
You're not the only one whose garage looks like its been looted...lol
We could all do with a much bigger garage. Problem is, the bigger it gets, the more s?!t we fill it with 😂
And people are wondering why they have sprag clutch trouble
I am sure I know what you are getting at, care to elaborate for others reading?
@The_Scottish_Biker Trying to start the bike with a low battery will allow the engine to "kick back" inevitably destroying the sprag clutch bearing
@@benlynch3783thought that was where you were going with it. In this case the engine was not turning at all, so it wasn’t getting as far as the starter rotating or clutch engaging. You are right though and have given me an idea of some content to include in my next vid though.
If it's anything like my Thruxton I had when they first came out the the problem I had was first there was a none return breather that ran from the tank underneath. This thing would stop the bike as it was faulty, ripped it out no problem. Then the carbs started flooding, dealer was useless so stripped and cleaned them and found both float needle rubbers were scrap, this a month old bike. Then out one day and throttle jammed open! Removed tank and found cable bracket loose. Contacted Triumph and they were not interested, never brought another Triumph since, stuck with Honda, way more reliable.
That sounds like a terrible experience, especially with a new bike.
It’s a good idea to be able to just plug a trickle charger straight in. I’m going to wire mine up the same. Thanx.👍🔧🇬🇧
Battery condition tester is cheap as chips. I got one called BM550 for around £13. Would have saved me replacing a good battery when it was the terminals and earth point needed cleaning up. Power doesn't get through the black stuff, make them nice and shiny.
You are not wrong. I have a cheap one also, does the job. A failed battery is probably the most wrongly diagnosed component.
Fresh batteries and fresh fuel are a good start, and new starter solenoid for the bobber. Keep them trickle charged.
Check the starter relais on the Bobber. Probably needs replacing.
👍🏽 Its a likely culprit. New video on my diagnosis coming soon.
Next time your in Germany, drop a DM, we can get a Beer :)

Great Job !! You're a braver man than me 😁 Looks magic !
Let us know if it gets through it's MOT or will you have to put the stock pipes back on for the test ? Thanks for taking the time to make the vid 👍
Not due its 1st MOT until late next year. My understanding is that a loud exhaust is not an MOT failure. Happy to stand corrected though.
@@The_Scottish_Biker Aye, my flat twin boxer 1200 GSA decatted with a custom straight thru 2 into 1 got through okay but that was a few years ago now. I was wondering whether the rules had changed and they check for emissions now. All the best and keep the vids coming !
I took my T100 in earlier this year and they didnt look at the exhaust or measure noise. Not that it is loud anyway. I do have a mate with a ridiculously loud ducati and he hasnt had any problems…. Maybe depends on who does the MoT 😂

Can you tell me the color of the wire?
What kind of pipes do you have on that bike it sounds really good
Pipes are hitchcox short drag. I have the xpipe on aswell. If I al honest its ridiculously loud. Great for showing off… not so much for long rides
@@The_Scottish_Biker thank you sir
Hey bro I was going todo this on the weekend and I was wondering if you need to tighten to spec or was everything hand tightened
I tightened everything to spec. Sorry I cant remember what the torque values are off the top of my head. I couldn’t find any definitive values from Triumph so I used generic torque values for the size of the bolt. A quick google search will give you a chart with values for different sizes. It is always tempting to go that little extra and over torque but you run the risk of ocer stretching the bolt, weakening it, and possible snapping it. Good luck with the new bars.
Thanks. That is an interesting find. I will have a play about with that, could be very useful
Yeah, I think it looks very cool, what shade/ colour is it? Thanks.
Its been a while since i ordered it, i think it was smoke grey or something like thar
Nice one mate, I was just about to pull the trigger on a casual shirt, I’m normally like you an XL so gonna go XXL. Thanks for the review👍🏻
No worries, glad to be of help. I wear this shirt a lot and really like it, I just wish it was a few inches longer as I feel like the bottom of my back is exposed. Made for short people I think. I al 6’ 1”
I had a file done by a chap in USA, flashed it the same way via ECU Tune, I stupidly did the crankshaft adaptation outside my garage which is next to my house, neighbours were all looking out of the window.
I bet they loved that
What was the actual fault and how did it present ?
Ignition position sensor. Have a look at my other videos and you will see from when it failed, to how I diagnosed it.
