Frozen Bottle of Water Has Less Water After Thawing
I removed the allen bolts that hold the lower fence to the to the saw bed and inserted very small paper wedges under the fence at the rear of the bolts towards the back of the saw, it puts a small twist on the lower fence therefore making the upper fence 90 to the bed, takes some time but it works, hopefully I explained it clearly.
Your idea works great. I did have another idea and wondered about how well it would work. Take a scrap piece and drill the size hole you want with the spade bit. Then, tightly clamp that piece over the object hole you want to enlarge making sure it's centered. Would the scrap piece guide you perfectly through?
Most likely! More than one way to skin a cat, right?
How do you know exactly what thickness of bit to drill with?
Whatever shelf hardware you are using will dictate the size of the bit.
This is genius! Thank you for taking the time to show this! I have this exact problem and now I can fix it without renovation!🎉
So pleased to hear that I could help!
Appreciate the quick answer and the detailed explanation and demo! Interestingly enough, announcing the winner early made me wanna understand why.
I wonder if it has something to do with removing the suspense. It's like, "Ok, I know who won. Now I can just relax and enjoy the game." Or maybe it's because you want see if my reasons for preferring one over the otther might not be your reasons.
Newer Spyder hole saws have the added function of a quick pop center release, allowing you to push the center bit up and pop the plug super quick
Makes them even better! Thanks
Ok. So I wanted to leave at 2 minutes but your outright honesty made me want to stay.
Haha! Thanks, man, I appreciate the kind words.
I had 4 replacements from Makita. All bad. Gave up and went to DeWalt. The Makita was a nicer smooth better finished machine but I can't have the problems. My sliding rails were out of alignment so it cut a slight curve when doing sliding cuts. And if I leaned the saw over for a bevel, that would make it go out of square to the fence. Nightmare for cutting tall skirting (base board) laying flat.
i finished my shelf and went to drill the holes with the exact same shelf hardware you have and was like fuck this does not fit under my drill press i cant believe theres a video for this exact problem ty bro
Awesome - never seen this done upside down like this, on a table. Getting ready to do two of my own doors. Thank you for the video!
You're very welcome. Let me know how yours turn out.
Thank you for the review, now I want to buy a Franklin but I live in Australia. Any ideas how I could get a ProSensor MAX?
Bunnings
TY for the info!
I love my franklin. I have the older one with not as many leds. It worked through hardy board siding no problem recently.
The D-Tect 120 is around $250 at the moment. It's not supposed to need calibration according to Bosh videos. I think you need you put your hand on the wall though. It's supposed to detect water filled pipes, plastic or metal. So you are comparing 2 different capabilities for one purpose, to be fair to the Bosh. I'm in active research of a new stud finder and I'm still hesitating on the Bosh as it has unconclusive reviews. This Franklin is impressive, it might be the one. Is it as good on drywall and other wall structures?
The purpose of the video is for efficiecy in finding studs through tile. The Bosch does need calibration, by moving it back and forth against the wall surface. While the Bosch is far superior for finding many things deep inside of cement and block, I think I demonstrated that this Franklin is much more efficient at finding studs through tile. And despite my mispeaking the price, it's much cheaper.
@@mikeadiddle I see. So are you planning on using the Franklin first and confirm it with the Bosh to make sure there's no pipe?
@@romt-712 It's never a bad idea to double-check, right? Given the accuracy of the ProSensor MAX showing studs "where they are supposed to be," I don't think it will be necessary in most cases. I'll still keep the Bosch handy for questionable situations. The Bosch picks up so many different things in a wall, it can actually lead to some confusion.
@@mikeadiddle Yeah I feel the same. I just ordered the Bosh on sale to keep around and have more info if I have a doubt. I guess no pipe on an exterior wall usually right? S in this particular video, in 30 sec you're ready to drill.
@@romt-712 Also, keep in mind that a metal pipe isn't going to show up as a perfect 1.5" reading on this detector.
I picked up that Franklin a while back and have been very pleased with it so far. Keep making videos.
Very smart! I can't believe it's not part of the jig kit. I wonder what else you can use if you don't have a tripod laying around. They are $20 on Amazon though so worst case scenario, you could use the other 2 legs to make another kind of jig.
Can this be done to wood floors?
I don't see why not. But you would need a very good, durable topcoat finish on it.
Very nice. Thanks for the demo!
What brand?........
It's in the description. 👍 www.plygem.com/siding/other-siding-products/shutters/board-batten/
I agree it's a deal breaker. I just bought the LS1019 and the fence design sucks. Even the fixed lower fence is not straight and when you tighten the inner of the 4 bolts holding it on, it warps the fence down and in so that it dramatically increases the chance of kickbacks. In 40 years I have never had a kickback] problem with a miter saw. Now I do. I took it into a Makita repair shop under warranty and they replaced the lower fence but agreed it's just a bad design. It did not fix my issue. Maybe some tape will. I wish I had bought the Kapex.
Thanks! Great idea
I cannot remove that upper fence! Its stuck, ive loosened the knob but it wont come off.
Check out 1:50 in this video. There's an allen-head set screw on the inner mounting post. Yours is probably too tight. Loosen it a little to see if that will release the fence.
I ordered these for our new build. But this home should have gotten a wider shutter. They have the room.
Absolutely! Way too common these days. I call it, "Fat guy in a little shirt."

Just returned a Dewalt DWS716XPS today for the same issue I not going to shim a $650 saw to make it right . My old DW705 is perfect .
Same issue on my Dewalt, same issue on ever brand on display at home depot... I was there the other day inquiring about this same issue...
What kind of a torch is this? I need one!
It's a propane weed burner torch. They are available at most home & garden stores. It's very effective.
Same exact issue on mine, I’ve worked with tape and an aux fence. Disappointed to say the least.
Same with my Makita 8 1/2". I've gone the tape route. Yes, sad.
Hello! Dont know if you found a solution to this but, i have the corded version of this saw with the exact same issue. I have two solutions. 1. Use masking tape in varying layers of thickness on the face of the fence to make it square. Actually works really easily. 2. Once i saw that that worked, there is a company called Custom Fabricating Solutions. They make a zero clearance fence for this saw that fits on the front of the original fence. It also solves the issue of squareness. So i bought it.
I appreciate your reply. I'm not sure a ZCI will fix the issue along the entire fence. However, that's beside the issue. I think a $600+ saw shouldn't have such a blatant and problematic flaw. I expect this on a Sub-$200 Ryobi or house brand. But for Makita, they got sum 'esplainin to do.
@mikeadiddle oh, I agree with you 100%. Just thought you might want to hear a solution. And yes, their fence does fix the issue completely. But I got like 90% of the way there just with the masking tape on the fence.
Hi if you are still there after so long thank you very much how ever I have taken my appart but can't put back the cam switch can you help me out please
Great advise. Thanks
Im making something similar for some furniture to the bathroom. I think i will go with one coat off matt varnish or do you think it will be better to give it a small layer off a glossy varnish. i belive that when you burn it will be already very matt texture so best to make it a little glossy ??
LS1219 same problem
Is there the same issue with the corded LS1019? I suppose so, as it has the same fence.
I have the same saw and deal with the same struggle. Disappointing like you said.
I wanted makita Traded it in same Problem so i Bought dewalt dws 780
How’s it treating you?
@@BEEPbaMBOP46 it is excellant very Accurate out of the box I have a lot of Makita tools d handle routers plunge router there belts sanders are the best but the miter saw and the dws 780 I like the best ! Great value at Home depot

I do have 800’ of crown to run. Along with base, chair rail
Mine doesn’t turn on. The cord is beat up but not sure what the problem is.
Very very 🎉🎉 these is cool tric 😮
This is exactly what I needed. I am trying to mount a 2x10 using Amazon bought hardware and I tried making a sled for the drill with the long bit (12”) and the angles were just off. Thank you so much for posting this! I’ve watched 10s of videos but this one solves it.
Awesome! You're welcome, and glad I could help.
How much did the torch cost and how fast do you go through the propane tank
I think this is a cheap one from Harbor Freight, like 25 bucks. I don't know how long a tank will last, though I've never even come close to running out doing this. You could probably use those little Coleman camping propane cylinders if you wanted it to be lighter.
@@mikeadiddle awesome I already have one of those and 25 bucks is worth it, thought a big propane tank would probably last!! I gotta get started looked friggin awesome and not too expensive either 🤔
Thanks for sharing going to try it🙏

This is the 2nd most pro handyman on TH-cam !!
Are you the first!? 😄👊
Yay
Thank you! This is the only video I could find that shows the right way to do this. I keep seeing people go right through the batton. Getting ready to install some of these tomorrow and I thought there is no way it goes through the batton, its supposed to be hidden, why else would they have the batton piece separate.
You're very welcome. The instructions clearly show to remove the battens and put the fasteners underneath, so I'm not sure why anyone would do otherwise. The only reason I can think of is maybe the ones they installed didn't have removable battens.
Did you have to use a router so it flush mounts to the wall. To make up for bracket thickness
You could use a router or a chisel.
Or you can screw a board on top of it temporarily and mark it back out, then drill through both, unscrew the top board and there you go. This is a little bit tougher with a paddle bit than a standard but it works
That is certainly one way to do it. However, it leaves screw holes in the board.
@@mikeadiddleright. Some places the board works, some it doesn't. It's a good alternative whenever you can't afford the punch through from a step bit though
I have the dewalt shadow line 110v. I want to upgrade to something specifically to handle 100mm oak every day. Obviously mains power is going to be better than battery. Don't know where to start.
That DeWalt shadow line is great technology- much better than lasers. You should see if there's a cordless DeWalt. This is a great saw, don't get me wrong. Once you dial in the laser, it's dead on.
