Thanks for this video. It really helped me to make the leap to Gather Round for my highschoolers and middle schoolers.
I am so glad it helped you make that leap!
How did you end up liking this? I thnk it's laid out so well but all of the outdated information would bother me. Has it bothered you?
It was very outdated. We ended up selling it.
Looks cool
Thank you! This was very helpfull!!
You’re welcome! I am glad it was helpful.
God is sooo Good! Thanks for all the updates. I was wondering since the "little" cousins like history if you could find an affordable used copy of Berean Builders' Science. It is a history based science curriculum with pretty short lessons. You might can print out a sample and use that to tried it out.
I need so much info on the tracking. I am in Colorado and am getting ready for record keeping for high school with my oldest and am so nervous about it.
It seems overwhelming, but it will all be okay. What are the rules for homeschooling high school in Colorado? Are they complicated?
Thank you for sharing. Sorry to be a pain, but I couldn’t find the 24 spiral linked Amazon pocket notebook you mentioned in your Amazon store, which category is it in please?
You are not a pain at all. It’s under homeschool essentials.
Thank you for sharing about the Elections mini unit. I ordered it and am excited! I did look into the Thanksgiving units at both campfire and gathering. I ultimately decided against them. I was hoping to sub some of our morning reading with a unit but it was going to be more time intensive. We’re instead going to do a Thanksgiving Bible reading plan for November.
They are pretty intense. Where did you get the Bible reading plan?
I really like the unit study idea. We have the car maintenance unit study from Campfire we are starting for my freshman. We’re using masterbooks science and history, Good and beautiful English and health Teaching Textbooks math geography book from Amazon because it’s cheaper than what I want. I want to buy everything lol but we’ve gone down to one income with me homeschooling. I go through some subjects and make flash cards for the questions due to attention span. It does help.
Let me know how you guys like the Car Maintenance unit.
@ will do.
We bought the election unit
We did the All things spooky unit last year. We had a lot of fun with it!
It’s a fun one!
I love that you share how you make unit studies work for high school. ❤ We aren't going to add any units in to our curriculum. We are using a world geography unit study as our main curriculum. We did a field trip to the voting booth and my oldest watched me vote. We discussed (prior to going) why its important to vote, and why I was choosing to vote for the people I selected. We discussed why some offices didn't have more than one person running for it. It was just a short day long thing. My children are 9YO, 3YO, and 4 months. There's plenty of time to do an actual study when they're a bit older. I want to branch out and try different unit studies curricula. Currently we use The Waldock Way's units, but most of hers I don't like. I change the ones we use, but I'd much rather have units that I could use in their entirety and not alter them significantly. We might try gather round or campfire curriculum. We will see. Are they done through a biblical or secular worldview?
They are both biblical. We love them both so much.
@HomeSweetHomeschoolLife Awesome. Thanks!
I'm very glad your mom is doing well :D That must be such a relief for your whole family. I was just curious what unit study you're referring to for the Who Was series of books? After I finish doing A Bear Called Paddington we are going to read who was Isaac Newton next- it felt like a great next read to go along with Motion and Simple Machines (TGTB) and Middle Ages (GR). Maybe we'll build our own catapults as well :P That's amazing how you're homeschooling four boys! I ionly homeschool one and am ready to rip my hair out some days haha TGTB LA has done wonders for my son as well- it's his most hated subject but its' getting him to read and write a bit now which is fantastic. Glad the two boys are enjoying it as well :)
It definitely is a relief that she is doing so well. Here are the Who Was units:www.thewaldockway.com/product/who-was-unit-studies/
This is one of the most thorough flip through’s I have ever seen. Thank you so much!
You're welcome! I am glad you found it helpful.
I've heard really good things about the Vikings unit from Gather Round. I didn't buy it, but thought it looked fun and educational. Will your son complete the Gather Round National Park unit or Canada Underground? Those are two I'm still thinking about, and you gave a good inside look at them in past videos. Also, have you thought about Denison Math? If it was more affordable, I would definitely buy their math curriculum to make it less stressful for my daughter. High school math is hard.
We are loving the Vikings unit. We have the National Parks unit and Underground to Canada. I am sure we will get to them one day. I have heard wonderful things about Denison, but my son doesn’t like anything on the computer.
Guys anyone can help me am a student looking for a free online schooling🙏
Check out Khan Academy or Easy Peasy All In One.
Easy Peasy is free and online. It offers Math, English, Science, Social Studies and a few electives.
Have you seen Campfires new Christmas Unit? They are doing a novel unit for A Christmas Carol. They have a big project included of making a movie trailer. I know you have mentioned before that your son is really into film making. I just finished printing it yesterday. It looks incredible!
I have and it looks amazing! I am going to show him that and the new one from Gather Round. I don’t know if he will want to do a Christmas unit or just a regular unit during December.
Love your updates! We are also not the same people from when I shared picks in April 😂
It's crazy how quickly things change, right?
Volumes 6 and 7 of Learn Math Fast are HARD! I did them with our oldest child. I am going to use Denison Geometry with my next two kids. I just do not want to teach geometry again. It is hard and I need a break! 😅❤
I have definitely noticed that the lessons are longer and are getting harder.
I had that same math conversation with my son today. He hates it and argues how pointless it is. He’s a 10th grader as well. The struggle is real.
It is rough! At least I know I am not alone.
These comments are encouraging because sometimes I feel like I'm alone and doing something wrong when my teen gives attitude. It's been a rough week between sarcasm in his answers in his work, straight up disobedience, and constant complaining 😢
I was excited to see that you posted a video. We just found a love for The Chronicles of Narnia through one of the lessons in Gather Round. I find that so interesting! I have an Elementary student. I am looking at The Kind Kingdom. We will still pick back up with Gather Round though. I am excited to see your updates as they come.
I have heard wonderful things about The Kind Kingdom.
Sounds like you all are all off to a good start. I love how you let him lead and tell you what he is feeling and you roll with it. I use Learn math Fast for my daughter cuz of you introducing it to us. It is working really well!! We did something different this year and we have/had 7 or so units going on at the same time, but only one a day. I’m saying this cuz on Fridays we do campfires US geography unit, which we absolutely love!! We are almost done with the first unit and will start the next one in this geography series after we finish. But maybe it could work if you pick one day to do that unit. I know you said you want to start it. It is so so good, like you said. Have a blessed day. Praising God your mom is doing well.
I am so glad that Learn Math Fast is working for y’all. 7-8 units at a time-that sounds amazing. What all are y’all doing? I do need to reserve a day to do the Campfire unit.
That's a super cool folder! Love that!
It is one of my favorites!
We've had a lot of attitude with our year starting - 9th & 11th graders - had a "Come to Jesus" meeting, but I anticipate needing more. LOL
We’ve had a few of those🤣
@@HomeSweetHomeschoolLife 🤣
We need a teen homeschool mom support group because the attitudes are real and sometimes I wonder if it's just me doing something wrong 🤔. I have 5 kids but our oldest is in 10th grade so this is our first time in this stage of life and it's rough 😆
@@christinasetzer2880you can come vent here anytime you want to.
I had the same "Come to Jesus " meeting with my 9th grader!!! We made some changes and are trying a more child led approach and we are both definitely enjoying the school year more now.
Great resource for homeschooling. Thanks for making the video.
How long did a unit use to take you to finish before high school? Do you do one lesson a day in the 20 days? We have been getting a lesson a day done but it seems like every one is done after the lesson. I was hoping to do a lot of extra things but it just seems crunched. It may be because it is our first unit.
The units usually last us 5 weeks. It’s hard to add anything extra because they do take a lot of time and energy. I have seen where people stretch one lesson into two days so they can incorporate more activities, videos, etc. What unit are y’all doing?
Did the election unit come out from gather round. And love your videos mama
It hasn’t came out yet! I’m waiting for it though.
Great idea!
This was great to hear! It made me feel better about how we are doing homeschool. Similar to yours.
If you plan on buying it, can you do a video on the new Christmas unit from Campfire Curriculums?
It looks amazing doesn’t it. We are debating about what we would like to do for December.
When you did gather round did you stick with one unit at a time or alternate like two days science two days history? When did you start full history units? Did you do them early on or did you start them at a t a certain age or grade level?
Great questions! We started Gather Round when it first came out so we did one unit at a time. My son was in 5th grade when we started. We have alternated 2 units one time. We did Botany two days a week and Transportation the other two. It went pretty well. We now stick to just one unit at a time.
@@HomeSweetHomeschoolLife thank you ☺️
I am considering TGTB LA for my daughter for 10th grade next year. How do you like it so far? I just ordered their Level 5 over the weekend for my 10 year old. We were using MasterBooks, but sadly she just did not care for it at all. I will miss the strong Bible component, but hopeful it will be a better fit for her.
To be honest, we haven’t even started it yet. My son wanted to do some units from Gather Round, so we have been using the language arts that is included inside the units.
@@HomeSweetHomeschoolLife isn’t that wonderful? We have so many options and so much flexibility! Thank you for replying. ♥️
Thanks so much for this thorough flip through! 🤗
I have a question… not sure if you mentioned it… I watched the video while washing dishes and attending a little one 😣 will this history also teach biblical history… like will it say what was happening biblically during this time period? Is all the history like this for this curriculum company? I hope so 🙏🏼
I don’t recall it doing that. It talked about groups of people around the world, but I don’t remember them specifically talking about the Bible other than in the Kingdom Minded Parallel that was in every lesson.
Best Video for me, i wish to find this earlier. Thank you so much , embrace it! never let him feel bad
I don't think she is a Christian! She says that Columbus only wanted the Indians to be slaves and as a source of Gold. Her opinions without any notations of where whe got that. Also uses the word "indigenous" for Indians. And that word is leftist!
I’m not sure who the author was of these particular units, but here is Rebecca’s statement of faith: gatherroundhomeschool.com/pages/rebeccas-statement-of-faith
I’ve never gotten to see a full high school level student workbook. Is that what you guys are using? And how does it compare to the middle school? It looks like a lot of research!!
With this unit, we had the middle school level already because I purchased the whole year when she was creating year 3 units. There wasn’t much of a difference between it and the high school level so I didn’t bother purchasing it. I have noticed that we the high school level there may be two to three more questions on a page. There is a good amount of research, but nothing too overwhelming.
@@HomeSweetHomeschoolLife thanks :)
This is so good and informative. Well Done. 🌻
Thank you so much!
Would you ever be interested showing us some components you would add making your own DIY seatwork sheets for units?
I made my own Seatwork journal a while ago for the Ancient Civilizations unit. Check out this video:th-cam.com/video/q_Vtn3uI674/w-d-xo.htmlsi=s0JH3Yvu-0Ike6BK I don’t have the file anymore, but if I created a new one, I would definitely add some grammar to it. You have actually given me a good idea. I need to make another one with a unit that doesn’t have Seatwork.
@@HomeSweetHomeschoolLife - I just know in a facebook group that is not officially a gather round page, people have asked about it and there are no videos kind of what components to add. I'll take a look at it again. It's been a while since I have seen that video.
@@sierrabookishlifeI also like to add Brave Writer Literature guides. They include grammar, literary analysis, copywork, spelling, etc. IEW is also easy to incorporate for more writing instruction.
This is so helpful!
I'm so glad! Thanks for watching!
I'm so glad your mom is doing better!
Thank you!
Oh my..I relate to everything you said 😑 We are now into our 4th year of homeschooling and my son is in grade 5. The last two years have been a dumpster fire because I tried to homeschool "my way" and "what I thought everyone else was doing". ugh. Learned my lesson. I went back to a curriculum that he enjoys and is short and sweet even though there's been so many videos about "how bad this is and we are no longer using it". Sometimes you have to go against the mainstream tide and use what works. I also overbought when he was younger and now realize i have closets of curriculum I will never use because he is not a classical learner :P. but i'm slowly adjusting and getting out of my head of what I "should" be doing based on popular opinion haha. We do have a really good balance of activities as well so I"m fortunate to be able to provide those opportunities for him. As of rme time..yaaaa I need to do better...always feel guilty like I should be doing something productive when I"m not schooling haha
It sounds like you are doing great!
@@HomeSweetHomeschoolLife getting there :) we’re both working through some kinks - I know homeschooling for four years ain’t that long so we definitely are still learning wha works and what doesn’t
We are working on US History this year. For next what units do world history go in order?
I would do Ancient Civilizations, Vikings, Middle Ages, and the Renaissance and Reformation.
@@HomeSweetHomeschoolLife thank you
